View 2 Replies View RelatedI save a lot of folders on my desktop. For the most part they are sorted alphabetically, from A to Z, with no problem.
For the last several months, if something is named numerically, they are saved backwards. In other words, if I have files named 001, 002, 003 instead of showing up in 001-002-003 sort order, they show up in 003-002-001 sort order.
How do I change this back to the original 001-002-003 sort order?
Just used the restore disks to install Windows XP. When it was done installing all the drivers it never installed the Video driver. GPU didnt show up in the BIOS either. I updated the BIOS. It now shows in the BIOS. Shows VGA Card: Quadro FX 2500M (512MB). So I figured I would be able to install the Driver now that is recognizes it. Nope didnt work. Not sure what the deal is. What could be the problem?
View 1 Replies View RelatedWindows 7 desktop annoys me in the way it sorts desktop icons.
Say I add an icon and want it alpha sorted with the existing desktop icons. Right click on the desktop and Sort by ==> Name. The icons are sorted in reverse alpha order. To get them sorted in forward alpha order, I have to do the right-click-sort-by-name process again.
How can I get Windows 7 to always sort the desktop icons in forward alpha order instead of alternating between forward and reverse order?

View 8 Replies View RelatedMS Win 7 64 bit New Dell Optiplex 790 System Just installed two weeks ago - very few apps installed and only a few trusted websites have been visited.
Originally set up and installed MS Office, Adobe Reader, and a few other common programs. Installed VMware vSphere Client. Upon using VMWare vSphere Client for the first time, I first noticed the white/blank square in the upper right corner of my desktop. It has been there ever since, even when I have not used any applications after startup.
I'm attaching a snippet of the affected area of the desktop.
I currently have Vista Ultimate x64 and Windows 7 RC1 x64 running in a dual boot setup. Each OS is installed on a separate disk drive. If I preorder Windows 7 Professional upgrade ($99) will I be able to do a clean install on a partition of my choice or will it force me to clean install over my existing Vista Ultimate partition ?? I understand that I cant do an upgrade in place from Vista Ultimate to Windows 7 Professional. My question is will the preorder Windows 7 upgrade force to me "kill" my Vista Ultimate partition ?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI bought a second hand desktop yesterday. When I connect my DSL cable to the CPU, the system prompt: no driver found. Since this is a second hand, I don't have a cd for this pc. I'm confused. I really don't know what to do. The owner who sold me this informed me that he used this pc only with wireless connection with his usb type broadband. I don't have a wireless broadband and only using a dsl cable.

It was working fine before. I unplugged it when useing it on another computer. then plugged it back into this one and it tells me the driver is not valid. i have removed said software and disconnected headset and reinstalled and no change.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running Windows 7 using a DSL line connected via ethernet. I've lost my internet connection, and Windows 7 Diagnostics reports that there might be a problem with the Local Area Connection Adapter driver. Unfortunately, it doesn't say what the problem might be or what to do about it. AT&T has verified that the problem isn't with the DSL line or the modem, and for good measure I bought a new ethernet cable. To make a long story short, I waited too long before considering a System Restore and no longer have restore points available from before this problem started, which was eight days ago. I've visited the Device Manager and the ethernet adapter is enabled and working properly.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI fixed the "plugged in not charging" problem very easily. Unplug your laptop, remove the battery, hold down the "Start" button for 30 seconds. I put it back together and it worked. The guy at Alienware support told me that static builds up inside the computer. I did what he said and the problem was over

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been battling BSOD Power_State_Failures on my alienware m17x r3 for almost a year now and they have been occuring since day 2 out of the box with seemingly no pattern of frequency. Sometimes my system goes weeks without crashing and sometimes it'll crash 5 times within 3 minutes of startup on the same day doing easy tasks like watching netflix or editing a word doc without any change in location or physical setup. There does seem to be a pattern of crashing while playing League of Legends, but i read somewhere that the intel speedstep feature was causing BSODs and upon disabling it I rarely encounter power state failures while playing that specific game. However, my system still blue screens while doing things like watching netflix, browsing the internet, doing homework, etc.

View 13 Replies View Relatedafter months of trying to get my video card drivers to work with windows 7, i finally made it happen. after that happened the laptop started to be slow and laggy. there was no lag problems while the video cards weren't installed. i'm saying like Internet loads slow, so the audio plays fine and video skips constantly or freezes. scrolling and load times for the browser are skippy and very slow, respectively. i don't know what i should do about this. i have 2 nvidia 7900gs currently going with the temp. at 74c.
edit: i forgot to add, when starting up sometimes windows will freeze and i have to hold the power button to shut it off. and other times, when it's loading up the monitor shuts off and about 2 minutes later it will turn on and then windows will show up and finally load.
I'm not exactly the most tech-savvy individual, so I will try to convey the problem I'm having here. I'm at my girlfriend's house, and have two laptops with me. One is a Sony VAIO (which I am currently using), the other is an Alienware m14x (sitting right next to me). I use the Alienware to play Diablo 3, and have had no issues connecting to any wireless access points prior to this.My sony connects to her home network just fine (linksys), but the alienware will not. I enter in the network password, and when I try to connect, it gives me the yellow exclamation mark over the white connection bars. When I click on it, it says "connected" in bold letters next to the network name. However, above, it says "Unidentified network," and underneath, "No Internet access."I have tried disabling firewalls and anti-virus software, I have reset the router, the computer, the wireless adapter, all to no avail. I'm not sure what to do. I'm pretty sure it's not the router's issue since all other wireless devices in the house connect to it just fine.
