Just used the restore disks to install Windows XP. When it was done installing all the drivers it never installed the Video driver. GPU didnt show up in the BIOS either. I updated the BIOS. It now shows in the BIOS. Shows VGA Card: Quadro FX 2500M (512MB). So I figured I would be able to install the Driver now that is recognizes it. Nope didnt work. Not sure what the deal is. What could be the problem?

I fixed the "plugged in not charging" problem very easily. Unplug your laptop, remove the battery, hold down the "Start" button for 30 seconds. I put it back together and it worked. The guy at Alienware support told me that static builds up inside the computer. I did what he said and the problem was over

I just did a clean install of Windows 7 and was wondering what you guys recommend for keeping my PC clean including startup processes, running processes, etc.Currently I use Glary Utilities, CCleaner, as well as Remove Empty Directories...I also clear out my Temp folder using the command "%temp%".I am not comfortable with stopping and deleted processes (Startup & Running)

I have been battling BSOD Power_State_Failures on my alienware m17x r3 for almost a year now and they have been occuring since day 2 out of the box with seemingly no pattern of frequency. Sometimes my system goes weeks without crashing and sometimes it'll crash 5 times within 3 minutes of startup on the same day doing easy tasks like watching netflix or editing a word doc without any change in location or physical setup. There does seem to be a pattern of crashing while playing League of Legends, but i read somewhere that the intel speedstep feature was causing BSODs and upon disabling it I rarely encounter power state failures while playing that specific game. However, my system still blue screens while doing things like watching netflix, browsing the internet, doing homework, etc.

I bought my new alienware over 6 months ago and was working well on all my games such as FIFA 12 and Call of Duty : Black ops and Call of Duty : Modern Warefare 3. After a while all my games lag. They lag just like when games lag when the charger isn't connected and you run a game.

In a restart loop. F2, F8, F12 do nothing. Cannot start computer in Safe Mode.Disabled restart and that didn't take either. Read other forums and am following suggestion to clear BIOS by disconnecting CMOS battery. Any other suggestions if that doesn't work?? I originally was trying to find virus that disabled norton security. Reinstalled Norton, ran scan. Ran removal tool to get rid of backdoor.Tidserv. As I worked through this issue computer just kept getting worse and worse til it reached point of not starting and being in the loop. W7 restart repair no go. Did system restore and it all went downhill from there.

after months of trying to get my video card drivers to work with windows 7, i finally made it happen. after that happened the laptop started to be slow and laggy. there was no lag problems while the video cards weren't installed. i'm saying like Internet loads slow, so the audio plays fine and video skips constantly or freezes. scrolling and load times for the browser are skippy and very slow, respectively. i don't know what i should do about this. i have 2 nvidia 7900gs currently going with the temp. at 74c.
edit: i forgot to add, when starting up sometimes windows will freeze and i have to hold the power button to shut it off. and other times, when it's loading up the monitor shuts off and about 2 minutes later it will turn on and then windows will show up and finally load.

I'm not exactly the most tech-savvy individual, so I will try to convey the problem I'm having here. I'm at my girlfriend's house, and have two laptops with me. One is a Sony VAIO (which I am currently using), the other is an Alienware m14x (sitting right next to me). I use the Alienware to play Diablo 3, and have had no issues connecting to any wireless access points prior to this.My sony connects to her home network just fine (linksys), but the alienware will not. I enter in the network password, and when I try to connect, it gives me the yellow exclamation mark over the white connection bars. When I click on it, it says "connected" in bold letters next to the network name. However, above, it says "Unidentified network," and underneath, "No Internet access."I have tried disabling firewalls and anti-virus software, I have reset the router, the computer, the wireless adapter, all to no avail. I'm not sure what to do. I'm pretty sure it's not the router's issue since all other wireless devices in the house connect to it just fine.

If I wanted to keep my current home computer as my main server & be able to access it remotely via laptop any where in the world if I'm away for whatever reason.
What kind of laptop would be best?
My business is websites, so I almost automatically jump to an apple since its pushed more for the graphics/artists
But I also like the dells & alienwares.
I'd also like them to talk wirelessly/via bluetooth while they are in the same room together to "sync" up.
I'm just not sure which way to go.
I wont be gaming, just heaving internet surfing & web design/work.
I run Windows 7 64 & Ubuntu 64 (though I havent used it as much since Windows 7 64 came out)

I was just about to buy the Windows 7 upgrade version with the student bundle, when it asked me if I want 32 bit or 64 bit. I thought it would send both, but, sadly, it won't. I do want 64-bit, since Asus decided to pack 4 gigs of ram into my laptop even though they sent it with a 32 bit OS...
So here's my questions:
1. Can I use the 64-bit Windows 7 Home Upgrade Disk to perform a clean install of 64-bit Win7 Home on my notebook that came with 32-bit Windows Vista Home Premium?
I am new to the whole upgrade thing... I am used to buying complete OS's. The price is what caught me here. So, I searched around and found that I can't upgrade directly and keep all my files. That is not a problem, I'll back them up... But can I make the clean install to 64-bit? Do I need to use my product key from Vista or what, and will it work to upgrade to 7 in another bit version?
~~ Just found the answer from a thread that got bumped right after I posted this. Sorry for the duplicate thread~~
2. Can my notebook even support Windows 7? It is an Asus N81Vg:
CPU: Intel Duo P8600
GPU: Nvidia GeForce GT120M
I'm unsure if the drivers will work and everything, although I do think they should as it's a newer model...

I have a tough problem that I would really appreciate detailed instructions on how to solve. I recently purchased a Motion Computing M1300 Tablet (originally from Circa 2003). It has a 40GB HDD (internal - IDE I think) that has been wiped so it has no OS - only BIOS.
I do not have any keyboard or mouse (its a pen table) or DVD/CD Rom for this computer. It does have a USB and I follewed instructions to create a bootable USB flash drive with Windows 7 on it, but that procedure gets only a few minutes into it and then fails because computer is unable to find any drivers that it is look for.
I do have access to a second XP computer with DVD. I have a Windows 7 DVD and also an XP DVD as well that I can access on the 2nd computer. I can and have taken out the HDD from the Motion Computer computer and I have a USB Drive attachment that allows me to connect the drive from the Motion table (after taking it out) to my second laptop where I can do all kinds of things to it.
What I want to do is figure out some instructions on what to do to the HDD after removing it from my tablet (maybe starting with a low level format) so that I can put an OS on the HDD (though the USB connected to my XP laptop) and after I put the HDD back in the Motion Computing laptop, everything will start working and the Motion Laptop will be usable with the OS.
I would prefer to have Windows 7 on it, but at this point, I would even accept someway to even get XP working on the machine. Everything I have tried so far just has not worked.

Got a notebook with Windows 7 on it and all of a sudden it's started not booting up, I've tried running the operating system recovery, memory diagnostix and the various tools presented to me to try and fix the issue with no luck. It just sits at the black screen with the yellow bar running across the bottom and never boots up. Also tried safe mode but it just stops after loading disk.sys.Only way I can get on is if I reinstall Windows, first format all the drives then reinstall it - it works fine (boots up) but as soon as I shut down I can't get back on and I'm back to square one. Also tried an older operating system with no luck (it was running 7 for months before this issue).

My wife's daughter has an HP Pavilion dm4-2070 notebook with Windows 7 Professional. It had been working properly, but for the past week it will not shut down when you select Shut down from the Start menu; instead it restarts. It also won't hibernate properly; after about 10 seconds it resumes. It does seem to sleep properly, for example, when you close the cover. And it will shut down if you press and hold the power button for 10 seconds.I see a lot of posts on other forums with similar problems, but few solutions that seem to work. I have tried many of the suggestions (checking the shutdown and power settings, ensuring the network adapters can't wake up the computer, running SFC, updating the BIOS to the
