View 8 RepliesI am always manipulation files between several folders so I have several iterations of Windows Explorer open when my computer boots up and showing the contents of the folders that I manipulate all the time. Using XP files moved or copied into another folder always appeared at the bottom of the explorer window and that was good because although they were out of alphabetical order I always knew where to find the new files in the explorer window. They would stay at the bottom until I clicked 'Refresh' or changed the focus to another folder or shut down that explorer. Windows 7 explorer behaves differently and places new files in alphabetical order. Is there a way it can be changed so that new files show at the bottom of the explorer window?

Instead History will show Recents Pages by X pages (Recent FIFO method), it shows by "Today".
Every time when it is 00:00 (midnight), it resets all the history I've had.
I want to change it to "View By Order Visited" or "View By Order Visited for couple days", instead of "View By Order Visited Today" (Browsing History displays only for one day), So that If it pass midnight - I could still see the last links.
I dont if can but like my pictures folder I want to put pictures in a certain order but I dont think Windows 7 lets you do that does it?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a different sort of problem with grouping.
See, I'm a game modder, and this requires me to have many folders open at once. The problem is, when my computer goes to sleep and then wakes up, the order of my folders on the taskbar is changed. This bugs me to no end, and I'm wondering how I can stop this reordering from happening.
I was going to restore my netbook OS back to XP from Windows 7 (The fancy looks aren't worth the trouble) and I found I had apparently deleted my XP restore file. So I decided to stick with Windows 7 for awhile. One irritating feature was that my files and folders within a folder were not in alphabetical order. It took me 30 min of messing around to finally alphabetize one folder and apply that to all folders
View 29 Replies View Relatedsort files and folders alphabetically yet? I have my music on an external hard drive. I have a folder for every artist, and in those folders theres a folder for each album. The only thing on this hard drive is music. In Windows XP, I could sort by name and show in groups. This way everything was kept alphabetical, all the A bands were under A , all the B bands were under B With Windows 7 I get gigantic chunks of A-H, I-P and Q-Z. I have over nearly 600 folders on this drive. Grouping all those folders into 3 giant blocks is nothing short of useless. Is there any way at all to sort like XP?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI had Windows 7 Home Premium put on my HP Pavilion a6500f last week. I had this same problem with Vista 64-bit but not with Windows XP. I have my file "Sort by" set to Name; Ascending but when I open a file it always moves to the end position when I close it. As an example say I have a folder named Book A. Inside that folder are files named Chapter 1, Chapter 2, Chapter 3, and Chapter 4 in that order. If I open and edit Chapter 2 when I close it the files are now in this order: Chapter 1, Chapter 3, Chapter 4, and Chapter 2. How do I make the files stay in the proper sort order? It's very irritating to have to move files back into their correct order every time.

So you ask, what order do they play in now? If you go to the command prompt or cmd and type Dir, this is the order it is playing in
Question 1 In Windows 7 File Explorer or My Computer can you sort the same way the Dir command will sort files in?
Question 2 Is there a way to change the order Dir sorts files in. And I want to have the files sorted the way I want by just typing dir. Not using any /'s after dir.
In Windows 7, is there a way of renaming multiple files, such as: JPG files in ascending order from 1-10,000?

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I open my library and look at my video files (arranged based on "date modified"), the files that are older than one week are alphabetically listed under "Earlier this week," "Earlier this month" and "Earlier this year." In contrast, when i copy those same files on a memory card (SDHC), they're arranged in true chronological order. I would like the library to show true chronological order (ie not separated by this week, this month, etc), so I could more easily determine which files have been copied over to the media card. How do I do that?
View 2 Replies View Relatedin windows 7 i see 3 different attributes for files, either .jpg or .mts (my hd videos)of date, date modified, date created. after i sort and batch process my pictures, all my date modified and date created get rewritten to the current date, and only "date" and the sequential files names i give them keep the order...my videos on the other hand, in a different folder, will be in correct chronological order if i sort by "date modified".so the question becomes, as i merge them into one folder, or one into the other's current folder...how do i get them all to appear in correct chronological order, as they were taken, throughout the whole year?i.e. pictures and videos interspersed. so i can do one big rename selecting all and starting with "2011CV(1000)"i've tried a bunch of batch file renames, but they rename, rather than allow me to tweak meta data, if anyone has ever been able to batch rewrite the date created, from the windows 7 describer "date" or "date modified", i think it would solve my problem, but i can't find any.

View 6 Replies View RelatedWindows 7 desktop annoys me in the way it sorts desktop icons.
Say I add an icon and want it alpha sorted with the existing desktop icons. Right click on the desktop and Sort by ==> Name. The icons are sorted in reverse alpha order. To get them sorted in forward alpha order, I have to do the right-click-sort-by-name process again.
How can I get Windows 7 to always sort the desktop icons in forward alpha order instead of alternating between forward and reverse order?

View 7 Replies View RelatedIn regards to the order of the program buttons on the task bar, is there a way to get Win7 to put the buttons in order of the way the programs are opened and not rearrange them? For example, I usually have my mailbox and my web browser open. (Nothing pinned to the task bar.) Mail is on the far left, browser is directly to the right of mail. If I go into mail and open an item in my inbox, I would expect (and like) the new task that shows in the task bar to be positioned to the right of the Browser button. Instead, it inserts itself to the right of Mail and pushes the Browser button to the right.

View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I originally installed 7 on my dad's PC, I disconnected the other 2 hard drives (I did not want the boot selection screen popping up all the time). Everything has been working fine (he uses XP, so I use the BIOS to select the hard drive boot order when I want to boot into 7). Yesterday I disconnected the Windows 7 hard drive, so that I could clone his XP installation over to the secondary hard drive in the machine (the primary & secondary drives are 80 GB SATA units, while the Windows 7 drive is a 30 GB IDE unit).
When I was finished, I shut down the machine & hooked the Windows 7 hard drive back up. For some odd reason, the machine boots into 7 no matter which drive is selected first in the BIOS boot order. I cannot figure this one out. With the Windows 7 drive disconnected, the machine boots into XP just fine. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this to happen?? I cloned the XP drive once before & did not have this problem(I do it every couple of months so that he has a complete image should the main hard drive fail).
