What Happens To The Data On A Mirrored Volume When One Drive Goes Bad

For backup purposes, I want to take two 1 TB hard drives, make them dynamic disks, then mirror them using the disk manager in Windows 7. After I do this, of course, it looks like one drive to the OS, not two. So I'm writing my data to them, storing music and movies and whatever on them so now there is an identical copy of the data on both drives. Now what if one drive fails or I just yank one drive out of the machine. When I reboot the computer, will Windows just see the one drive that's still working, and just make the data available on it like nothing ever happened? Perhaps I would simply need to convert the disk back into a "normal disk" with Disk Manager?

I installed Windows 7 on a system with a pair of 1 TB drives "C:" and a 500 GB drive "D:". I am using mirror function built in to Windows 7. I don't like hdwe RAID, as I may not be able to replace a failed controller. Unexpectedly, part of Windows got on the small drive instead of the mirrored pair, and I can't boot without D:. Disk Mgt reports D: has System, Active, Primary Partition; while C: is Boot, Page File. MS support Indian says I need to reinstall Windows after disconnecting D:, and everything will be OK. (I tried, but Install wouldn't let me - I guess I need to format the disk, and I really don't want to). MS support didn't seem too knowledgeable so I'm not confident. I have questions remaining:!. Can Windows 7 even boot from a Windows 7 mirrored drive? I've read on forums that OS needs to be on another drive, that is not part of the mirror, which would sort of render the mirror meaningless. I don't want to have to reinstall Windows after a failure - been there, done that.

I have a system drive on a workstation which is 1) removable, 2) contains 2 partitions - one for the sytem & data files, one reserved by the os.
I would like to use this drive and it's file data in an external drive case (SATA) connected to my notebook.
Will the notebook handle the external drive properly?

My computer (Win 7 Pro 64 bit) recently crashed hard during a Windows Update, probably during Win 7 SP1 installation but I have no way of being sure. I have daily backups on a WHS system and I reverted to a version known to be good prior to the crash. Unfortunately, there were some changes made to some user files between the early AM backup and the next day's crash. The data should be recoverable (there is another WHS backup that was completed while Windows update was installing that should have the user data but I'm afraid to try using it for a full restore because I don't know what other changes were going on in the OS)
I can recover all of the files from my Documents folder in Win 7 easily enough ... but is there a way to recover the files from the XP Virtual Machine's folders?
I'm tempted to copy the XP Virtual Drive from the WHS volume and write over the XP virtual drive on the restored PC but I have not found any information about doing so and I don't want to trash things to the point where I have to do yet another restore. I have to admit that I had not considered a backup strategy for the XP Mode VM until this happened.

Ok, I reinstalled Windows 7, it detected two hard drives, one 32gb and other 466gb, I installed the Windows 7 on the 466GB and installed all the drivers. On the Intel Rapid Storage Technology, Storage View, the SSD has 30GB Cache Volume but does not have any Data Volume like it is supposed to: Picture Below: View image: SDC11483 How do I create Data Volume?Notice it has Data Volume AND Cache Volume split in the SSD?

So I've been using my 64GB ssd as my windows 7 boot drive and i have a 1TB hdd as my data drive. Recently the my computer has begun to freeze up with errors like "explorer.exe" has stopped responding or "windows" has stopped responding and half of the time when i try to boot it says it cant find windows. This has lead me to believe that my ssd is dying despite being only a year old. I need to RMA my ssd but to do that i would be losing my boot drive for weeks. So I thought id try to create a system image so that i can simply put my boot drive on my hdd, but when i try to create the image it says that the image would be 711GB because its including all of my hdd (which contains all my user libraries and downloads). My question is: how do I make windows stop thinking that my hdd is a system drive so that I can create a reasonably sized image, or more generally: how can i easily move my boot drive to my hdd? Also, I've read some posts about using "easyBCD" to accomplish the latter but I'm not sure that's exactly what i need in this situation.

forum i have a question. I have a kingston 30 gb ssd i use as my windows drive, and a 750 gb wd hdd for data/game storage. I have heard that you can ghost a file on the data drive into the x86 folder so that all new installs go there and then you still recieve most of the benefits of your ssd w/o clogging it up. I have an amd based system (dont know if that matters or not)

I installed Windows 7 Ultimate on a newly formatted scsi drive that carried designator "D"(the existing "C" was a smaller SCSI that I wanted to get rid of) I removed the old "C" drive and installed another new scsi(identical to the new boot drive). The second drive was recognized but did not get a letter assignment. I configured the second new drive as mirror to the other("D"). Worked fine except that the second drive was also asigned "D" in the process, and seems to be working fine and has been successfully loaded as a mirror. I want to change the designator of the first (or either one, really) to "C". When I try to do that to either one, I get the flag: "the parameter is incorrect". Motherboard is Intel S5000VSA with Xeon 2.5 GHz quad.

However, if I am having issues with not being able to setup windows backup on these from this computer, I assume I will run into the same issues with the laptop backups.Is there no way to use windows backup to a mirrored drive?

the Program Files and Windows folders show up on the desktop AND Program Files(x86), Users folders appear on the desktop twice..... THey are all linked, I have created files in one ad it shows up in all locations so I can't delete them. I have run Malwarebytes (quick) and found a Trojan downloader but they are still there. Have been for a while now and I don't know what to do

I have a folder that mirrors my user profile in Windows. It is not a shortcut, but an exact duplicate which will cause any changes in either to be affected in sync. If I delete a folder in one, the folder is deleted in the other. The second folder is named "Test". I am unable to change the name on the duplicate profile and it does not show up when I access User Accounts.

I have a spanned volume setup with 4 drives. One of the drives is starting to throw read errors which is preventing WHS from backing it up (Yikes!).
Is it possible to clone the drive with the errors and to reinsert a new drive into the array?
Can the new drive be bigger?

I have been suggested to keep my data in a separate drive than my operating system.
Actually, my hard drive is partitioned in two drives, c: and F:
I want to transfers my directory c:user to f:user. I did try to copy between them, but some files where not transferred
So what is the best way to do that. After, do I need to do special thing to make sure that all the references will be followed to the new files positions, IE when accessing them via my task manager

how one removes SVI from a non-fixed USB disk? I have system restore switched off on this drive..shows zero on scale but the disk has 623mb of SVI information possibly from a previous restore point setting..not sure where it came from Not sure if indexing is on this drive Can I remove this information.

I'm trying out USB Safely Remove and I see when I try to Stop a USB docking station, it shows me that the Volume Tracking Information service has hold of the drive even though it's not in the list for System Restore Points.
Anyone know how to turn volume tracking on and off? I'm running Windows 7 32 bit build 7077.

So I am wiping my hard drive by booting with the Windows disk and going to command prompt. I successfully formatted drive C:, about 100 MB of system files and D:, about 500 GB or the bulk of my hard rive. These were the same hard drive, but separate partitions apparently. In Windows it just appears as C: altogether hiding the system files so you don't do something stupid. After I had cleared those two drives, I thought everything was gone until I remembered that it started me out in X:sources. I went back to it and was like what the heck is this? I went to the root directory, X: and typed dir for directory. There was an executable setup file, and four directories including the "sources" one, Program files, Windows, and Users. The whole drive was about 30,000,000 bytes which is I guess 30 MB. It's volume label was called "Boot". I tried to format it, and it said "Cannot format. This volume is write protected." What is this X: drive and is there a command to remove the write protection? Also, what would happen if I did eliminate this data? Could I still install Windows back from the DVD or would that not be possible without those them?

I currently just set up my new build. I decided to go with Western Digital Caviar Green 3TB for my hard drive. However, I split the hard drive into two parts: 2 TB and roughly about 770 GB unallocated space. I installed Window 7 on 2TB partition. Now, I decide to use the rest of 770 GB of unallocated space. I tried to use Computer Management, but it doesn't give me the option to create a new volume from unallocated space. Similar thing happened with EaseUS Partition Master. With Acronis Disk Director, it doesn't even recognize the unallocated space at all!!! So how can I create a new volume or even merge it with my C drive? Do I have to reformat my hard drive and split them again and do a clean installation again?
Note:I already checked, my BIOS recognizes my hard drive with 3 TB. The unallocated space is right after my C drive. There is only 1 primary MBR partition (C drive), and 100 MB system files right before it.

i am having 2 drivers in my system window 7 o.s. but after installing of another o.s i.e linux mint 12 i lost my main data driver partition. but dat lost driver is present in disk management, but it not able to perform any operation over that , it is having 2 enable operation i.e delete volume and help and i dont't have to delete that volume.

so i have a blue yeti, and i'm an online animator/voice actor. whenever i record audio on my blue yeti (or any other mic) i record about 4-6 inches from the mic, and turn the gain down enough that the audio doesn't peak as i yell or whatever. this is what you're supposed to do if you don't want your audio levels peaking and making your recording sound horrible and corrupted. however, afterwards, it means i have really quite recordings. not a problem right? now that it's recorded right, i can boost the volume of the entire clip afterwards right? wrong. i'm not an audio expert so i must be missing something. but why in gods name would the audio distort and peak after it's recorded successfully? it's all there, it's all clean audio. if i turn the volume on my speakers all the way up it sounds crystal clear! all i want to do is do that inside the computer so that when i upload it to Internet people don't have to turn their speakers so far up. but if i increase the clips volume in the computer, it distorts! it sounds awful! why?! i tried in sony acid and audacity and they both do the same thing! i can take sound effects, and recordings made by other producers and crank them up nice and loud, but mine just fall apart!

Part of my job involves taking images of many different computers using Norton Ghost and saving them to external drives. One of these drives is a Western Digital MyPassport that is soon being re-purposed. When taking one of the images with this drive I accidentally clicked on the System Volume Information folder and, while I caught my error this time, saw that there were 2 other ghost files already saved in that location. I would like to pull these off of this drive and transfer them to one that will still be in use for storing images, but can't gain access to the System Volume Information folder outside of Ghost to do so, and the steps to access the folder on my computer don't seem to work for the drive (show hidden files and folders is selected, hide protected operating system files is unchecked, and system restore is turned off for the drive).

Honestly don't know y I deleted it but, I was cleaning files from my drives while in Linux and I deleted the system volume folder from one of my hdds and now all my data is inaccessible. Haven't touched the drive since, would like a surefire way to get it back. The Network Drive volumes do not show up in Windows Explorer using Windows 7. The network drives appear with the assigned drive letter followed by Network Drive, for example, (Q Network Drive I've checked and the volumes are labeled correctly on the servers. Is there a registry entry that needs to be modified in order to correct?The system is a Toshiba R830 laptop running Win 7 64-bit
