Boot is very slow (> 4 minutes) so trying 'autorun.exe' to check out 'entries' that may be causing slowdown.(msconfig has been used to reduce grossly unwanted items from starting.)
Under the Scheduled Tasks tab there are many 'entries' that have no Description or Publisher and in the Image Path field has 'File not found'.
Can (or should) these 'entries' be deleted?
I have deleted Zone Alarm but 2 entries remain in the registry that can not be deleted - this stops my cloning program from working.

So far, everything appears to be the same... Except when I open iTunes I get an notice that says the registry settings needed to burn and import CDs are missing.I've been told that I can import the entire .reg backup and "hope that all goes well". It sounds rather sketchy and I am seeking better help.I've also been told that a wire could have come loose but I want to fix this registry problem before opening up my PC. I hope it doesn't come off as leaching by coming here solely for making a help thread.
Ok, I know this is a sore subject, but are there any work-a-rounds to get handy programs like PortableApps to at least be an option to run when you plug it in? It kind of defeats the purpose of the whole thing. I'm not plugging in rogue USB sticks from strangers in dark alleys, just my own USB hard drives. It get really annoying when you have to drill into your own drive 20 times a day just to double click the exe to run the dang thing you know is safe.
Someone in another thread posed Autorunner.exe, but it doesn't seem to do anything at all.

It appears that Microsoft has disabled the Autorun feature for USB devices in Windows 7. If you create an appropriate Autorun.inf file on your USB drive, Vista (and XP?) will happily run the program it points to when you plug the device in, but in Windows 7 that is no longer the case. I've read a few news articles explaining that this is by design, out of security concerns.
While I understand and even agree with the reasoning, I was wondering whether there was a way (perhaps in the Group Policy editor, or some Registry hack) to override or bypass this?
I have just created a nice autorun feature to enable me to mount a TrueCrypt-encrypted container on my USB stick, but that no longer works in Windows 7. (Can't use BitLocker as I still need uncrypted access to the root of the drive in order for BitLocker to allow Windows 7 to start on my fully encrypted C:-drive).
I tried looking around on the net and here, but I wasn't able to find what I was looking for.
I want to put in a dvd and have dvdshrink lunch automatically. Anyone have ideas?
In trying to look/install some missing files, I went to use my Windows 7 Home disk for repair. It would not work. Instead I got the following message: "Autorun.dll could not be loaded or is corrupt. Setup cannot continue. Error code is [OX7E].". I received the same message when I tried install MS Office 2010. As a side note, I've been unsuccessful in several install attempts of the Windows 7 SP Pack 1.

I right-clicked it, and renamed it to 'T4 (J:)' but it still shows up as 'Local Disk (J:)'! I tried various names but still it shows up as 'Local Disk (J:)' in My Computer.So I went to 'Disk Management' to try and change the label from there and, what do you know, Disk Partition (J:) shows 'T4 (J:)'It turns out that this could be an 'autorun.inf' problem. No rename, no delete, no edit. I tried changing it's attributes from an elevated command prompt but still no luck. No matter what I try, in the end I get an 'Access is Denied' error. All I want is for my ext-HDD to be labeled as 'T4 (J:)' in My Computer.

I had a game setup in my pen mixed with a lot of other important things for the installation. I wanted to make an autorun file that would do the following:
1- you plug the pen;
2- the program would start immediately (without autoplay).
Let's say the file is named "setup.exe". I created the following autorun.inf: [autorun] open=setup.exe It didn't work.. probably because I am using windows 7. So, how do I create this?
Imagine I use Windows XP. Also imagine I had the setup.exe file in this location: F:/others/setup.exe I wanted to create an autorun that would start the setup.exe as soon as I plugged the pen in. How would the autorun.inf be like?
I cannot get autorun to work in Windows 7 64 bit for the internal drives. I have tried every suggestion posted, including the command "shellhwdetection", as well as configuring it in the control panel, and nothing works. The USB drive does work, though. In addition, if I insert a disc in the internal drive and then click on the drive in windows explorer, it ejects the disc, so I can't even see what's on a disc.

In desperation I built a Start.exe file in Flash and that worked, but I need my client to have the disk run automatically. I have a Brother HL-2270W Wireless All-In-On laser printer which also does duplex printing. I'd like to be able to have two entries in my Devices and Printers list that point to this same printer. One would be setup to default to Duplex printing. This would make it a lot simpler than having to select this each time I print something. Setting it for Duplex as the default causes every page, even if it only is a single page, to go through the duplex process which slows down non-duplex printing a lot.

View 1 Replies View RelatedSo my computer randomly freezes up and when I boot up there are no log entries of the event. There are however always 3 log entries but I don't believe they are related to the actual problem. The 3 that are always there are: 6008, 7026 and 41. Now when I say it freezes I mean it literally freezes up. I do not get any blue screen or black screen or any errors it literally freezes as if I took a screenshot of my desktop and was looking at it. I can not use my mouse or keyboard I can not hear anyone in a skype call or anything it is FROZEN. The only way I am able to reboot it is by holding the power button which thus gives me the error code 41 above.

Following a problem with the initial install attempt, I'm trying to re-install LotusSuite 9.8.2 but the previous attempt seems to have resulted in some "Lotus" registry entries that now direct things to a non-existent "F" drive. When I try to re-install from the CD, it doesn't allow me the option of choosing the destination location. Instead, it automatically tries to install in this non-existent drive. I've opened RegEdit and searched and found many references to Lotus and to F:Lotus.
How can I edit the registry to get rid of the F:Lotus entries or change them to C: ? Or just get rid of all references to Lotus? BTW, this software works perfectly on my Win 7 laptop.
I have Windows 7 OEM version. Recently my friend installed Ubuntu to work on it. After some time I removed Ubuntu through Add Remove programs but whenever I start my computer at the time of booting, it asks me to choose out of 3 entries :-- Windows 7, Ubuntu, Ubuntu.
Now, I wish to remove these 2 Ubuntu entries and I understand I have to remove some multi disk partition entries for Ubuntu, in bootmgr.dll... right??
How can I remove these two Ubuntu entries??
PS: This is for the moderators--I hope this doesn't come under "black-listed issues". According to my understanding, a simple meddling with bootmgr.dll such as the above doesn't qualify to come under "hacking"..or any other black list issues...
