View 9 Replies View RelatedI originally partitioned my Toshiba NB205-N210 for Windows XP, so I only gave the system partition 8GB.Recently I installed Windows 7 Ultimate (x86) and of course 8GB is too small for it to really work well. This is even if I have enabled "compress files" for C: and I've already removed everything from "Turn Windows features on or off".I have actually been able to run Windows Update and update everything, but now it wants to install Service Pack 1, and there's not enough room - I only have 300 MB left. When I was researching what I could delete to make more room, I came across a torrent called "Windows 7 Lite - Dark Netbook Edition". The creator wrote that he had removed these components:
- Projector Connectivity
- Speech Support
- Welcome Center
- TV Tuner
- NVIDIA & ATI Video Drivers
[code]....
I recently made a separate partition on my HD (C), let's call it F. I wanted to load up windows xp onto that small partition, F, so as to see if it would allow me to operate better, as I have a gaming laptop that seems to be suffering from a memory hog svchost. Anyway, now that I've booted up to the F partition and working in XP, I find that I dislike it, I also can't figure out how to connect to the internet. My issue is, I can't figure out how to boot to the C, my Windows 7, the original OS. I'm not given an option upon startup and I can't find anything in my BIOS that is obviously pertaining to my issue.

View 3 Replies View RelatedOk, I know this is a sore subject, but are there any work-a-rounds to get handy programs like PortableApps to at least be an option to run when you plug it in? It kind of defeats the purpose of the whole thing. I'm not plugging in rogue USB sticks from strangers in dark alleys, just my own USB hard drives. It get really annoying when you have to drill into your own drive 20 times a day just to double click the exe to run the dang thing you know is safe.
Someone in another thread posed Autorunner.exe, but it doesn't seem to do anything at all.

It appears that Microsoft has disabled the Autorun feature for USB devices in Windows 7. If you create an appropriate Autorun.inf file on your USB drive, Vista (and XP?) will happily run the program it points to when you plug the device in, but in Windows 7 that is no longer the case. I've read a few news articles explaining that this is by design, out of security concerns.
While I understand and even agree with the reasoning, I was wondering whether there was a way (perhaps in the Group Policy editor, or some Registry hack) to override or bypass this?
I have just created a nice autorun feature to enable me to mount a TrueCrypt-encrypted container on my USB stick, but that no longer works in Windows 7. (Can't use BitLocker as I still need uncrypted access to the root of the drive in order for BitLocker to allow Windows 7 to start on my fully encrypted C:-drive).
I tried looking around on the net and here, but I wasn't able to find what I was looking for.
I want to put in a dvd and have dvdshrink lunch automatically. Anyone have ideas?
In trying to look/install some missing files, I went to use my Windows 7 Home disk for repair. It would not work. Instead I got the following message: "Autorun.dll could not be loaded or is corrupt. Setup cannot continue. Error code is [OX7E].". I received the same message when I tried install MS Office 2010. As a side note, I've been unsuccessful in several install attempts of the Windows 7 SP Pack 1.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a 150GB FAT32 External Hard Disk which shows up as 'Local Disk (J:)' in My Computer. I right-clicked it, and renamed it to 'T4 (J:)' but it still shows up as 'Local Disk (J:)'! I tried various names but still it shows up as 'Local Disk (J:)' in My Computer. So I went to 'Disk Management' to try and change the label from there and, what do you know, Disk Partition (J:) shows 'T4 (J:)'It turns out that this could be an 'autorun.inf' problem. I think that the 'autorun.inf' of my ext-HDD has a parameter like 'label=Local Disk' or something similar. But now, the problem is that I can't access 'autorun.inf' at all. No rename, no delete, no edit. I tried changing it's attributes from an elevated command prompt but still no luck. No matter what I try, in the end I get an 'Access is Denied' error. All I want is for my ext-HDD to be labeled as 'T4 (J:)' in My Computer.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI would like to know if it's possible to make autorun files in windows 7. I've read a bit on the net and saw that some say it is not possible, but it must be; otherwise, how would hackers use autorun files in Windows 7?
I had a game setup in my pen mixed with a lot of other important things for the installation. I wanted to make an autorun file that would do the following:
1- you plug the pen;
2- the program would start immediately (without autoplay).
Let's say the file is named "setup.exe". I created the following autorun.inf: [autorun] open=setup.exe It didn't work.. probably because I am using windows 7. So, how do I create this?
Imagine I use Windows XP. Also imagine I had the setup.exe file in this location: F:/others/setup.exe I wanted to create an autorun that would start the setup.exe as soon as I plugged the pen in. How would the autorun.inf be like?
Boot is very slow (> 4 minutes) so trying 'autorun.exe' to check out 'entries' that may be causing slowdown.(msconfig has been used to reduce grossly unwanted items from starting.)
Under the Scheduled Tasks tab there are many 'entries' that have no Description or Publisher and in the Image Path field has 'File not found'.
Can (or should) these 'entries' be deleted?
I cannot get autorun to work in Windows 7 64 bit for the internal drives. I have tried every suggestion posted, including the command "shellhwdetection", as well as configuring it in the control panel, and nothing works. The USB drive does work, though. In addition, if I insert a disc in the internal drive and then click on the drive in windows explorer, it ejects the disc, so I can't even see what's on a disc.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've had a Dickens of a job trying to get AutoRun to work on a DVD containing HTML files. I've written various versions of AutoRun.INF ("Open=..."; Shellexecute=...") and so on. In desperation I built a Start.exe file in Flash and that worked, but I need my client to have the disk run automatically. I searched the web and eventually found this: How to Enable / Disable Autorun for a Drive (using Registry). Excellent - it worked!
View 2 Replies View RelatedHow can I hide the Autoplay dialog from the autorun.inf file? I have a USB with two partitions: A bootable linux partition (recognized as a fake CD drive by windows) and the normal "Removable disk" partition, where I can store my files.
When I plug in my USB into any computer, I get two autoplay dialogs, which is very annoying. Is there any line I can put in Autorun.inf to disable the Autoplay dialog on the CD partition?
I tried
Code: [Autorun]
UseAutoplay=0 but it didn't work.
This website lists all autorun commands:Autorun.inf Entries
I couldn't delete a file named autorun.inf even i can't format it. so i can't install new xp os over older OS.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm a long-time reader but new poster. I am currently running Windows 7. I want to install Windows XP onto another disc and have a dual-boot setup. I keep Windows 7 up to date and secure, but for the XP partition, I would rather not have antivirus running or even installed, in order to limit background processes. I will not be logging into any place or making any credit card purchases when booted into Windows XP. It will just be used for surfing, games, etc. Further, if and when XP becomes compromised or buggy, I will simply overwrite the partition with a backup image.
If I use Bitlocker to lock down the Windows 7 partition (with the encryption key on a thumb drive) and boot into Windows XP, am I correct in thinking the XP installation see or can't access the Windows 7 partition? If XP gets compromised, can a virus access or write to the Windows 7 partition?
Is there any other reason why this would not be secure? Can a virus write to the BIOS?
I wanted to create a new partition to try out linux. So I decided to shrink E: by 20 GB. I then formatted the free space into a new drive by right clicking and creating new simple volume. I was warned that the drive would be made "simple", but not knowing the implications, I went ahead with the procedure. Now on rebooting, windows won't load. I had made a repair disc, so was able to use it to check for any start up errors. It reported none. Moreover I used "diskpart" through cmd to find volume c: is dynamic.

I tried downloading the new IE, no change, even tried DLing the DLL and putting it in the folder and that had no change either.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a very odd issue that I cannot seem to figure out how to solve....memory tells me I think have had this problem before with this website about 2 years ago, but I cannot remember for the life of me how I solved it.Basically, the issue is this: I am an avid rally fan and usually check World Rally Championship every day. However, a few days ago I noticed that I would get a "The Connection Was Reset"error in Firefox 4.0.1 when trying to connect to it. The first time, I just thought maybe the site was down. The second day, I thought it was odd so I opened up IE9 and tried it there....it will not load in IE9 either. Then I thought, this is really odd, and tried it on my netbook and then and subsequently the other netbook and 2 other desktops in our house. The three desktops are connected to the net through our router via DHCP. The netbooks are on the same router via wireless DHCP. I tried restarting and resetting the router in case that was the issue, no go - internet works flawlessly on all the other computers and my desktop EXCEPT for that ONE site on my desktop. On both netbooks and the other 2 desktops, World Rally Championship loaded perfectly, so it must be an issue with my PC. I tried clearing the caches and cookies for both browsers, and I restarted this machine twice to no avail.
