I have a problem. I install an application on system but this application runs correctly when administrator log on to computer. if I log as user I couldn't run this application. I don't want my user be member of admin. how edit local group policy that user could run just this application as admin but this user doesn't member of admin?

I usually type in "cmd", right click on it and run as administrator. If you need an elevated command prompt now and then, simply create a shortcut to "cmd". Right click on the shortcut, left click on properties. Click the shortcut tab and select "advanced". Finally, you can select "run as administrator".Like I said, just something I didn't think about before, but it's handy to have.

It works well for SFTP and remote command line access using a dedicated, non-admin, user account.Problem is when I want to run something that requires admin permission under that connection. The server runs cmd.exe under the context of a non-admin user I've created for it, so I'm limited in what I can do. Question is, how can I "elevate" that remote command prompt to execute admin-only programs and commands? UAC of course will not help under that conditions.

View 0 Replies View RelatedOur office has an old program that we still need to use when upgrading our PC's to Windows 7. The program will run fine if you start a windows virtual PC and install and run it. However, based on the needs of our office, I need to be able to run Windows XP mode and simply have an icon for our users to click to take them to the application.If I install the program in windows XP mode, and then add a shortcut to the file under all users/start menu, a shortcut is placed in the appropriate place on the windows 7 machine and I can copy that shortcut ot the desktop. The program runs fine until you restart the computer. Once you restart the computer and double click the link on the windows 7 desktop to the program running in windows XP mode, it says:
Cannot start virtual application. The application is blocked from running as a virtual application.
I read some other posts saying to put a new shortcut in the all users/start menu folder. This works, but only until our users restart their computer. The next time the computer is up, the problem happens again. This is not an acceptable solution to have to create a new shortcut for each workstation each time the computer is restarted.
Is there any programmatic way within a BATch file of determining whether it has been started from an elevated command prompt (run as Administrator) or a normal command prompt? I note the difference between the Current Directory at start of the BATch file, but wonder if there is a better way. When in elevated mode I don't get a UAC prompt when using DISKPART. The UAC prompt only happens when running it in a normal command prompt window.
Are you aware of any command which simultaneously would give a different errorlevel when executed in an elevated command prompt than in a normal command prompt, and not produce a UAC prompt in normal mode? If this is the case, unless I can find something to distinguish between elevated command prompts and normal command prompts, then I will have to try the %cd% variable at the start of BATch files, to see whether it is consistent even across user modifications of the command prompt shortcut's Target Directory...
I'm having a problem with this known bug in UAC related with subst and mapped drives and can't find a workaround.
I have a standard user account (NOT in the administrators group) which I use every time and another which is an admin which I use only to elevate processes though UAC when prompted. I'm used to have a drive mapped with the "subst" command to point at a local directory in my hard disk, which is run at each logon with a bat file placed in the startup menu.
Problem is that, whenever I elevate any program with UAC, that program doesn't sees the mapped drive. Moreover, if I try to elevate a program whose executable lies in the subst'ed drive, after prompting for my password it says the .exe I just double-clicked doesn't exists.
Has anyone solved this problem in some "elegant" way? I don't really like to get rid of that drive for convenience, and using the full path to the real file is just a pain.
I have been getting freezes a lot. I have run all the hardware diagnostics and everything checks out ok. I tried to run chkdsk from a c prompt but I get the message "Access denied as you do not have sufficient privileges. You have to invoke this utility running in elevated mode." This is my home computer and I am the only one using it so I have not set up any user accounts. Why don't I have full privileges?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI was on the internet this morning and suddenly I lost connection to the internet, I'm connected by ethernet so I tried a different cord and it wouldn't recognize anything, that there was a connection what so ever. So I restored to a previous date assuming the new update, as usual, screwed my laptop up. Same issue happened, but then this time as administrator I cant run chkdsk, tells me access is denied and that I don't have sufficient privileges, even though I am the administrator and only user on the laptop. Also troubleshooting things, anything, it can't continue due to an error, it the details of the error it used to say Restricted but now it says Elevated, like the chkdsk thing as well which mentions that I have to invoke the utility running in elevated mode. My internet after shutting down is back but I'm still confused.

I don't what happened but all of a sudden a message box opens up on my windows 7 laptop and it says this " the application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142). Click OK to close the application" . I clicked ok but the error message box keeps returning back.If i remember properly, this happened when I tried installing some wallpaper.system seems to be working finw with all applications, but this message box is quite annoying.

I'm thinking the video quality on Skype starts going south when I run low/out on addressable memory since it's a 32-bit application

View 1 Replies View RelatedEarlier today I turned on my Toshiba laptop (Satellite P855-S5200) and got some sort of error screen, and then it brought me to a screen asking if I wanted to do a system repair or start windows normally. I chose system repair, but then it seemed to get stuck in that process (It was taking forever and nothing was happening), so I turned off the laptop (I know, big no no), booted in safe mode, and did a system restore to a restore point from about a week ago. The "starting Windows" screen came and went, no problem. Everything seemed fine till I got to the User Selection screen (the default blue one with the little hummingbird or whatever). Then it just sat there on that screen. I could see the hummingbird and the little squiggly lines, but there were no buttons to click my user. I just let it sit there, and after about 5 minutes, the user names popped up, and I was able to continue using the computer without any problems, no other speed issues whatsoever. It now makes me wait every time, always about 5 minutes, before the user names pop up. It does this when I restart the machine and when I try to switch users.

I changed the values in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionProfileList in order to move the default user locations to my second partition. I then created a new user profile but when I try to login I get the message 'The User Profile Service failed the login'. When I set these values back to normal, new accounts work fine but I really want my user accounts on the second partition.

When I boot into the standard user, I am prompted by UAC for the admin password for 4 programs to start. All the programs are ASUS utilities that came with mymotherboard.I have checked the permissions of the programs and the User group has full control.Also, these programs do not show up in the MSCONFIG startup tab. View 10 Replies View RelatedI am a lab technician for Microsoft classes at a community college. One of our students somehow messed up his hard drive. The computer is running Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 64-bit. The system has two administrator accounts and one standard user account. I am still able to logon with those accounts and there are SID keys for each of these users in the registry.
Now when we create a new user, the account is created without any problems. The user shows up on the logon page and after running the net user command, it shows up there as well. When I try to logon with the new user, I get a message: The User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded.
None of the new user accounts show up in the registry. The other anomaly that I see is that the Default User folder is missing in each of the Users subdirectory for the three accounts where I have no problems.
I have read the Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 947215 and none of the methods apply to my problem. I also checked Local Group Policies and the Do not logon users with temporary profiles setting is not configured.
How do I map existing User Folders to a newly created User Account?I had existing User Folders on drive D. I added a new drive C and installed the OS on C but changed default location of User Folders to D. Now my existing User Folders are in the Users folder on D but there is no User Account associated with them. If I create a user account with the same name will it map to the existing folder within Users?I did a test of this. I created a folder called Test within Users then created a User account called Test and logged in. It created another folder within Users called Test.Computername.
