View 7 RepliesI'm having sporadic issues with many users connected over the network to a print server. If the printer is their default printer the application used to print will freeze/lockup until they log out / restart their machine. The only way to fix this (from my experience) is to set their default printer to something else (like Adobe PDF) or bypass the print server completely and do it by direct TCP/IP.

Immediateness proceeding the lockout the screen flashes black and than shows the login screen. All of the external hardware is the same, one computer was a desktop, one is a laptop.

The program installs and launches without issue, but when I click ile-save as the program locks up once thefile window opens. I cannot type a file name or select a location. Once I close the program using task manager I get an error about ale2disp.dll(Any option in the tab that causes theile windowto open has the same result.) The program runs if I create a virtual XP machine, so I dont think the problem is with le2disp.dlltself, but more one of Windows 7 permissionsI have tried various mpatibility modes and taking ownership and giving full control to everything I can, but still no success. (another clue n closed through task manager it prompts me to save my work, allows me to type a file name into a slightly different looking file window

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am a big fan of user account controls in Vista and Windows 7.
I would like to know how I can stop any and all newly installed programs from being able to change or affect my default programs.
I build and maintain computers and once I have installed and set up a new system I don't want any program to change my default programs. Not even win media player or Internet explorer if they update themselves.
Does that make sense.
I use GOM as the default media player and firefox as the default browser. But sometimes if there is a system update for media player, internet explorer or even iTunes and quicktime these programs sometimes after the update change my default programs.
Once I have finalized my install and set up my preferences how can I lock down the default programs permanently?
I wish if I could install automated windows 7 x86 directly from my USB pen drive/HDD without and CD/DVD with all applications. I have 2 laptops and one desktop machine in my home. I'm going away from home so I need to have a USB HDD so that even a layman can do the installation whenever required. Only c drive should be formatted not entire machine.

When I have them installed, however, all of the non-admin accounts keep getting a string of 5-6 admin password requests to allow the programs to make changes. This happens upon every login and is more than a little tedious.I tried to run them as an administrator but that didn't change anything.I'm running Windows 7 64-bit Professional if it matter.

I just want to know the best way to allow programs to be accessed and/or denied access by various user accounts.
Example: I currently have Photoshop Elements installed on my computer and the only way I could find to give access to the others users (household media center) was to copy a short cut and paste it on that users desktop. Then I had to install it on each individual user account. I had to do the same for Firefox and Napster. Is there a better way to do this??
I am currently having issues with Napster running correctly and I have a feeling it's because of the way that added this to each user's account.
i have made a few backups of my 7 disk and i want to try to add my programs (eg Av firefox itunes ect) to install while windows installs so its all there when i log on? can i do that?
View 3 Replies View RelatedAs SSDs are undoubtedly the way to go for the OS and booting, I am curious how one can configure Windows 7 to install on C: yet save all user data on D: (which is where the 2TB drive is). The main reason being the space is limited on C (SSD is only 90GB) and the media structure of the user library with videos, documents, etc can easily span hundreds of gigs.Is the only way to do this to manually change the user location to D:? If so, how is this done?I'll be building a number of systems soon and want to have some sort of C: boot D: user data standard which falls within the management of the traditional Windows 7 Library structure.

I intended for everything but the OS to go into a large second file named E. My thinking is that the only way that I can fix this situation is to do a new clean install and get it right this time (as much as my limited knowledge will allow. how to rectify this. ntel e6600 Core 2 Duo @ 2.4 GHz Noctua NH-U12P CoolerASUS P5QOCZ Reaper 2X2GB DDR2 800 (PC 6400) EVGA GeForce 8800GTS 640 MB WD 250GB GB SATA II Corsair CMPSU 550W

Does anyone know why and how can I resolve this problem?
So I just installed Win 7 RC 7100. Before that I had the Win 7 Beta Build 7022. I did a full computer backup...the one that creates a .vhd file and such...well I can't figure out a way to get all my old programs and such back b/c it seems 7 RC needs the backup to be saved on the old OS using "Easy Transfer" in order to access the files through the new OS.
I have a full backup on my external, but the restore function in 7 RC doesn't recognize it. Is there an easy way to restore it? Can i use the windows.old files? If so, how do I install the programs from progfiles? Some are missing the setup applications it seems.

This happens for every program that I have tried from download.cnet.com, but I haven't had the problem with installing programs from other sites. I have a second computer and I have no problems installing programs from download.cnet.com onto that computer. I've searched the internet for a solution but I haven't found anything like it. I can still install programs from everywhere except download.cnet.com (at least I haven't run into problems yet), so it's not a huge deal but it would be really nice to be able to download programs from download.cnet.com because it is a very useful resource.
