i have made a few backups of my 7 disk and i want to try to add my programs (eg Av firefox itunes ect) to install while windows installs so its all there when i log on? can i do that?
View 3 RepliesI have this problem on a couple machines. I have created a user and put them in the local administrators group. They still get error messages when trying to install printers/browsers/programs and whe they try to run programs like IIS or device manager. The error says you need administrator rights to install or run the program. I have also disabled UAC to test that out. No luck.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm reinstalling Windows 7 onto my 32GB OCZ SSD boot drive. In addition to that drive, I have a 1TB media drive and a 1TB drive that holds my user files as well as all my programs. I can't seem to figure out how to ensure that all the short cuts for the programs and data for the user file will run smoothly on the fresh install. Is there anything I should do before nuking the SSD and anything additional that I should do after the install or just treat it like a fresh SSD/HDD install but use the already existing user data? tl/dr: Reinstall windows on boot drive (SSD) and retain users folder/program files on separate HDD? edit: creating a clone image and using that won't work here, the actual OS files are bad

When I boot into the standard user, I am prompted by UAC for the admin password for 4 programs to start. All the programs are ASUS utilities that came with mymotherboard.I have checked the permissions of the programs and the User group has full control.Also, these programs do not show up in the MSCONFIG startup tab. I want the utilities to run but do not want to have to authenticate every time I boot

When I have them installed, however, all of the non-admin accounts keep getting a string of 5-6 admin password requests to allow the programs to make changes. This happens upon every login and is more than a little tedious.I tried to run them as an administrator but that didn't change anything.I'm running Windows 7 64-bit Professional if it matter.

I can no longer install programs or modify existing programs.According to the security permissions, I have none. Nor can I change my permissions because in order to change them I need access to the C drive, which I don't have.I have tried creating other users and putting them in the admin group, etc. but nothing is working.

I just want to know the best way to allow programs to be accessed and/or denied access by various user accounts.
Example: I currently have Photoshop Elements installed on my computer and the only way I could find to give access to the others users (household media center) was to copy a short cut and paste it on that users desktop. Then I had to install it on each individual user account. I had to do the same for Firefox and Napster. Is there a better way to do this??
I am currently having issues with Napster running correctly and I have a feeling it's because of the way that added this to each user's account.
I performed a successful clean install of Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. I installed the OS to a 100gb volume with the intention of using that only for the OS. I, without thinking, allowed the setup to name that drive C. Further, without noticing I allowed the Programs folder and the Users folder to go into this volume. I intended for everything but the OS to go into a large second file named E. Everytime I create a standard user account all programs that are installed on my administrator account transfers to my 2 standard user accounts and the guest account also. I have Administrative rights to the computers only, and network access rights on our network. I keep a number of computers up to date, including various 3rd-party programs (i.e. java, flash, etc), and I currently manually remotely connect to each computer and install the updates to the programs from a network share, then run Windows update, select all the critical updates (as well as all the applicable optional updates), then disconnect and move on to the next one. Needless to say, time quickly adds up.

I am trying to install office 2007 as part of a system rebuild after installing a new hard drive. I get a window saying install was successful, I can open power point or excel but when I try to open word it hangs up at the word logo page. I have done remove programs in control panel, I have used revo uninstall to try to clean the registry. I suspect a corrupted fragment in the registry but don't know how to get at it.
View 1 Replies View Relatedone of my co-workers wants me to get rid of some viruses and install office 2010 home and student on her computer with the key she bought. her computer runs windows 7 64-bit. after backing up her data, i finally ended up doing a factory reinstall from the backup partition. so i downloaded all windows updates and installed antivirus and firewall software. then i downloaded the office 2010 trial and tried to install it. it seems to begin installing without any problems. then a splash screen for powerpoint appears. it says that its "processing" and does that for about 20 minutes and then there is a balloon that pops up saying that office is downloading files. after all that happens, an error message appears that says something like "powerpoint cannot be opened. please try again later or repair this software in the control panel" with no sort of error code. i then tried repairing it from control panel which claims to complete successfully. so i restart and try to install again and the same thing happens all over again. if i try opening word, excel, powerpoint or onenote the splash screen appears and does the same thing that i described powerpoint was doing. ive tried uninstalling and reinstalling to no avail. i also tried installing the 60 day trial for office 2007 that came preloaded with the computer and then installing office 2010 over it. same thing happened.

It comes up with a message that says: The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you are running. Check to see wethere you need a 32 or 64 bit prog and contact the software publisher.These progs all downloaded and installed before. I have switched off UAC to no avail. It also seems to install freshly downloaded files.
