Unable To See Result Of "verifier /querysettings" Command In CMD
Mar 9, 2012
In command prompt when I run the command "verifier /querysettings" another command prompt box pops up, with some writing in it, and then disappears all in a matter of a fraction of a second.
How can I stop it from disappearing so that I can read what it says?

Most of my Windows Live Mail contains embedded links. When I click on those links, I expect the URL there to be transferred to Firefox. Instead, I get a cryptic message from Windows Live Mail, "There was a problem sending the command to the program." Is there some simple trick that fixes this?

Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but what does Driver Verifier do exactly?I understand it stresses the drivers chosen, flags if faulty and causes a crash (correct me if I'm wrong).I'm currently using it to debug some BSOD's that have been plaguing me, but here where I'm confused. Wouldn't it always crash at some point? If it were the drivers, the system would crash, but if it were, lets say, hardware, the system should crash anyway (as it would be stressed normally).I ask this because in my attempts to play Borderlands 2, a game that pretty much always crashes with the Verifier off (something I'm currently trying to figure out) it strangely works with it on.

I decided to run a driver verification check on windows 7 using the built-in Driver Verifier.
The worst possible decision I have made. First the Comp blue-screened multiple times and got stuck into a reboot loop, I was eventually able to access the desktop however every last driver was malfunctioning or missing.
All I can say is System Restore saved the day once again and was able to restore the system, Just thought I might give everyone a heads up. DO NOT run Driver Verifier?

I have been experiencing lots of BSODs lately, all at random and all showing different reasons. At first, I thought that I had a memory problem - so, I removed one of the RAM modules and the laptop worked OK for a few days. However, today the BSODs started again.I ran Driver Verifier for a few hours and started getting BSOD after BSOD.I checked the minidump and (from what I saw), the reason is probably netbt.sys:
==================================================
Dump File : 071912-64475-01.dmp
Crash Time : 7/19/2012 1:34:55 PM
Bug Check String : DRIVER_CORRUPTED_EXPOOL
Bug Check Code : 0x000000c5
Parameter 1 : fffffa80`29e73608
[code].....
Before running Driver Verifier, I was getting a BAD_POOL_HEADER 0x19 BSODs.I'm running Windows Home Premium x64 on a Toshiba Qosmio X500 laptop. The OS is OEM.I have also attached the jcgriff + perfmon reports and the minidump txt export (just in case).

So I have occasionally had these random freezes lately, typically when just browsing on chrome and have tried to figure out what the cause is. Memtest came back clean, the bios and such should be latest. I ran the verifier and got immediate bsod upon windows login and this is basically at the point where I can no longer figure out what is wrong on my own.

I was debugging my code with WinDbg (novice user) trying to figure out an issue and I ran gflags.exe and enabled the checkbox for Application Verifier. I restarted WinDbg and Windows complained it couldn't start the application. I thought it was some weirdness with WinDbg, but then I noticed I couldn't run my web browser with the same error message. My machine eventually locked up on me so I said screw it, and I rebooted my machine.
Now when I start the machine it says Windows can't start, if I don't run the repair program it just hangs with a blinking underscore. I ran the repair program which says it will try to restore it, but this was at the end of the day on my work machine so I had to head home. I can understand how enabling Application Verifier could screw up an application, but how in the world did it bring my whole system down?
Windows 7 64-bit.

So this is my second distinct BSOD in the last while. I turned on driver verifier to investigate the first BSOD problem because minidump files arent being created even after turning on small memory dumps (kernel dumps dont show up either). So this new BSOD appears immediately when the starting windows screen appears.
Ive attached the ntbtlog.txt file which was created through the enable boot logging option.

So I have a Laptop with 4gb of DDR2-800 SDRAM
I have done the winsat mem test and get a result of 3700 mb/s on average.
I also notice that my memory is never above 2gb used.
So whats the deal? is my system running the way it should be memory wise? Do allot of people use only half their memory? is 3700mb/s what is to be expected from my memory? Because I see ALLOT faster times from the memory assessment sticky post (I know that some of them are from monster systems and you cant compare...but 3700 seems slow compared to others.

The problem started when I pressed alt-tab while I was playing a game. After alt-tab, the system froze and so I tried Task Manager with no result. I pressed reset button and then I realized that the computer cannot boot Windows (I only have installed windows 7). I tried system restore, fixing boot problems using Windows 7 installation DVD but it didn't help. I don't wont to format the Computer because I have important files that I haven't backed up. Can I do anything to save the files?

I am using windows 7 64 bit on my hp pavillion g6 laptop (g6 - 1118tx model) and the warranty is expired . Well I ve got 2 problems , please read the whole problem and provide some solution. Around a week back my Laptop got struck(edit - windows 7 os got struck .. hangs .. watever) so i have restarted it , but when i did it showed some error message "windows was unable to start your system" something like that .. I tried safe mode, installing windows again and even recovery disks that i have got but all of them did not work outso i have run diagnosis on hard disk and the test result is a 303 ERROR , which turned out to be a hard disk crash when i googled about it.. But i need to back up my data , so did some research and used UBUNTU live cd to back up data , which worked fine and i am able to back up all the drives except the C drive (may be C drive got crashed).
I thought i need to buy a new hard again but i saw install option in ubuntu live cd and ubuntu got installed and in the processing of installing I FORMATTED 2 drives as EXT PARTITIONS (do remember this point).. After that I installed windows 7 on another drive (not C drive) which worked but now the system is very very very slow , you cant imagine how slow it is , takes 30 mins to copy 500 mb file, 5 mins to open my computer.. So now my problem is ... Should I replace my hard disk ??, because when i asked friend of mine in service center he said its better to replace, because even though its working now he said it may crash again in future and who knows the whole data might be lost If I dont want to replace, can you guys provide any solution to speed up my system ?? Do you remember the point about partitioning 2 drives as EXT in ubuntu (refer above) .. well those 2 drives i am unable to format in windows 7

I've had trouble with my machine starting. I've done all the advice the 7 Forum suggests, running start up 3 times...etc., and it will work for a day or two, then not start. Then if I hit the reset button a couple of times, it will go into the start up repair and I end up with this message:
Repair Action/ System files Integrity check and repair
Result Failed / Error code = 0x490
Time Taken / 700863 ms
I've run sfc from an elevated window and it says everything is fine.

In UNIX, for changing the directory path, there is "cd" command. .This works fine in windows 7 too.. But the problem comes when we are trying to change the path using environment variables. .
In UNIX, cd $JAVA_HOME changes the path to the value set for JAVA_HOME,
Similarly is there any command in Windows which does the trick from command prompt for changing path using Environment variables. .

Im running a single Windows 7 Ultimate x86 OS on my laptop and it used to work very well till earlier today once I get back home trying to use my computer as usual to find out that it always runs the startup repair after showing the words windows is loading files instead of starting windows normally. Once the diagnostic & repair process is done it tells me that Startup Repair cannot repair this computer automatically. When I view the details I get the following under Root cause found:
Boot configuration is corrupted.
Repair action: Partition table repair.
Result: Failed. Error code = 0x490
After many times doing the previous repairs with no result I went to Command Prompt in order to check my system drive to find out that both Windows & Program Files directories are not existed there anymore. Instead, theres a Windows.old directory that contains those 2 system directories as well as Users & PerfLogs directories plus the autoexec.bat & config.sys files. Sure theres noway to use the system restore tool or anything else even using my Windows boot DVD. Still cant use the cmd commands single handedly to fix this.As I said earlier I have never faced such problem before plus I have no idea how to regain my windows since I can never format my system drive as I need to backup all the files, settings, bookmarks & favorites located in my user profile first.

Over the past months I have encountered a BSOD roughly every month and I want to get rid of it. The BSOD happens at random (at least as far as I know), not with specific tasks. This morning I started looking for the error and found that turning verifier ON might help in identification. I did this and rebooted a couple of times, every time with the same BSOD occuring during the boot stating something about dne64x.sys
System specs:
Windows 7 Professional x64 full retail version
+/- 8 months old system, OS age is the same

Very little, all the parts were shipped here about four days ago and I spent a couple of hours putting them together. I ran into a hiccup when Windows 7 Home Premium would not get past the extracting phase of the installation, kicking up the error in this thread. I began the first install on a 20GB partition, when that failed I tried just installing it on a single partition. When that failed I tried removing all the partitions and just installing on the unformatted drive, in it's entirety (seemed weird but others said they had luck with this).Testing Methodology:
At the end of each attempted solution I tried to install Windows again. My keyboard is a USB keyboard. All of my boot testing is done with a bootable USB that I have running MS-DOS 6.22. What I Have Tried:Solution 1: First I went into the bios and changed the SATA controller from AHCI to Raid SATA Result = FAILEDSolution 2: I tried burning OEM Windows disk from Microsoft to an iso at the lowest speed possible for my DVD burner (4x).Result = FAILEDSolution 3: At this point I had created and deleted so many partitions I was concerned it may be having an effect on the install. So I went to Samsung's website and grabbed their HDD utility tool. I figured let's kill two birds with one stone and test the drive while also restoring it to it's original state. So I did a low level format and then ran the HDD diagnostic. All came back with no errors. Result = FAILED
On to memory...Solution 4: I downloaded Microsoft's Memory Diagnostic Tool and let it run overnight. It returned no errors. So I decided to use MemTest86 4.1 and let it run for 10 passes, I did find errors then. As of now I am running each module of memory one by one to determine if it is a problem with them or the sockets on the motherboard. So far I have been unable to reproduce the errors I got when both modules were running together. As a precaution I double checked the motherboards specifications on the socket order for memory, all is to specs. Result = [PENDING]What's Next:After my current memory test ends, I plan on checking my BIOS to see if the correct memory speeds were detected in the auto detection. If at that point I'm still unable to reproduce the memory errors, I'll put both memory modules back into the system and run the testing again to see if I can reproduce the errors I got the first time.

Ok So I got myself into a unique bind here. I was trying to install some custom system files (for a theme) and I did it wrong and now I cant open explorer.exe . I dont want to goto a backup because this is a easy fix. (in my view). So I need to know how to run command prompt with administrative privleges from command prompt.
I am trying to do this command: copy explorer.exe C:Windows
So if there is also another command I can just tack onto that that gives me admin rights to do it. I would be happy.
