So this is my second distinct BSOD in the last while. I turned on driver verifier to investigate the first BSOD problem because minidump files arent being created even after turning on small memory dumps (kernel dumps dont show up either). So this new BSOD appears immediately when the starting windows screen appears.
Ive attached the ntbtlog.txt file which was created through the enable boot logging option.
I have been experiencing lots of BSODs lately, all at random and all showing different reasons.At first, I thought that I had a memory problem - so, I removed one of the RAM modules and the laptop worked OK for a few days. However, today the BSODs started again.I ran Driver Verifier for a few hours and started getting BSOD after BSOD.I checked the minidump and (from what I saw), the reason is probably netbt.sys:

Before running Driver Verifier, I was getting a BAD_POOL_HEADER 0x19 BSODs.I'm running Windows Home Premium x64 on a Toshiba Qosmio X500 laptop. The OS is OEM.I have also attached the jcgriff + perfmon reports and the minidump txt export (just in case).
So Ive now been getting random BSODs on my desktop for a month now, and was troubleshooting the problem all this time. Finally, to out rule any corrupt/conflicting drivers I freshly reinstalled windows (which didnt help though).
Since this reinstall, however, no more dump files are created during the BSODs. It just shows:

And it stays at this, no usual data dumping, even after letting the screen sit for about an hour. It recorded the dump files normally before the re-installation.
I already checked system properties, under the advanced tab, to ensure that the dump file creation was enabled. It is.
Also, does anyone know what could cause this bsod? From the dumpfiles before the reinstallation, i know that Hal.dll is the driver causing the problems. Could it be my OC? ( I doubt it as returning the CPU to factory settings resulted in the same BSODs)
I have an Acer laptop brand new and have been having random crashes since day 1. Came with Windows 7 Home Basic.
Specs are:
Core i3 2350M
2GB DD3 Ram
500GB HDD
nVidia 630M 1GB
I have used the SF Diagnostic tool and attached the files, but there are not memory dump files as i have tried several times to enable them but the system never creates them. The crash happens randomly and is not associated with Game or any specific application. I am using Kaspersky Pure as antivirus and i am sure its not causing any problem as i have been using it on other systems and laptops.
Over the past months I have encountered a BSOD roughly every month and I want to get rid of it. The BSOD happens at random (at least as far as I know), not with specific tasks.This morning I started looking for the error and found that turning verifier ON might help in identification. I did this and rebooted a couple of times, every time with the same BSOD occuring during the boot stating something about dne64x.sys
System specs:
Windows 7 Professional x64 full retail version
+/- 8 months old system, OS age is the same
So I have occasionally had these random freezes lately, typically when just browsing on chrome and have tried to figure out what the cause is. Memtest came back clean, the bios and such should be latest. I ran the verifier and got immediate bsod upon windows login and this is basically at the point where I can no longer figure out what is wrong on my own.
View 2 Replies View RelatedNot sure if this is the right place to ask, but what does Driver Verifier do exactly?I understand it stresses the drivers chosen, flags if faulty and causes a crash (correct me if I'm wrong).I'm currently using it to debug some BSOD's that have been plaguing me, but here where I'm confused. Wouldn't it always crash at some point? If it were the drivers, the system would crash, but if it were, lets say, hardware, the system should crash anyway (as it would be stressed normally).I ask this because in my attempts to play Borderlands 2, a game that pretty much always crashes with the Verifier off (something I'm currently trying to figure out) it strangely works with it on.

The worst possible decision I have made. First the Comp blue-screened multiple times and got stuck into a reboot loop, I was eventually able to access the desktop however every last driver was malfunctioning or missing.
All I can say is System Restore saved the day once again and was able to restore the system, Just thought I might give everyone a heads up. DO NOT run Driver Verifier?
I've tried to have a dump file generated on crash but it's not getting written. I followed the following page to set up how Windows would create my dump files:

View 3 Replies View RelatedI would [almost] swear that I used to be able to click on a file in Windows Explorer and then add or change it's details such as the dates. I may be "misremembering" but I think I could do it at the bottom of the Explorer screen or by rick-clicking, selecting properties and the Details tab.If it was ever true it is no longer so. I can't get any of the fields for a file, from Explorer or file properties/details, to open up for entry or modification.After looking at similar posts here, I went through the Take Ownership process just to make sure there were no security issues but that didn't make any difference.

However, this fills up very quickly.make a program that automatically moves the recordings over to the HDD as they are created. Fraps has an option to split the recording up into 4GB segments, so what the program will need to do is detect when the second section has been created, then move the first across, then detect when the third has been created and move the second across etc.

The Basics:While I was beginning to install and manually offline-update various anti-malware tools so that I could begin to determine what I needed to do to get this thing clean and properly operable, I noticed while looking at Programs and Features that many of the install dates for various software were dated in various months in 2013. My installations were 1 year, 2 days ahead of the current date. Windows Explorer shows this to be consistent throughout the files and folders installed.
Looking at the install dates for some of the HP proprietary software/bloatware, I can tell this behavior started some point after the computer was purchased and used (the bloatware installation date was one day after the warranty start date listed in the BIOS). I am presuming dates on files and folders created, modified, or accessed from the point of the initial occurrence of what caused these particular incorrect future timestamps are the only ones affected.
The clock and date were wrong by the exact amount forward as were the install dates for the files I installed, so, as expected, the files were taking their timestamp from the computer's time. I assume whenever the computer date and time were maladjusted is when the problem started. I fixed the time and date, but the files and folders did not adjust their timestamps, again as expected.
1. Are there any particular problems I am not considering which could be caused by the incorrect dates, other than some particular searching and arrangement issues, which in this case I think would be superficial? This type of date information is just descriptive metadata for files and folders, correct?
2. Is there any way to fix this? I cannot think of any, but maybe there is something I am missing, hashing it out in my mind. If the BIOS clock and the Windows date and time settings were separate and the date metadata were generated based on a timer referencing the BIOS clock, then I could see a way to repair this. But, at least on this notebook, a change in one is reflected in the other--I think this is how Windows OSes operate in general. Anyway, any ideas?
3. Finally, after I finish cleaning and repairing the notebook, is there any way to globally reset all of the date metadata on all files/folders to reflect the present? So long as having incorrect future timestamps does not affect operation, then this is superficial, but it is irrationally driving me crazy. If it were my computer, I could not stand it--barely can stand it as it is. I have found a program that lets you reset all of the dates of all files in a folder, or the dates of all folders visible when opening a directory or subdirectory, but not both simultaneously, and so of course not anything that would change the dates of all the files and folders nested within one another from root.
I was debugging my code with WinDbg (novice user) trying to figure out an issue and I ran gflags.exe and enabled the checkbox for Application Verifier. I restarted WinDbg and Windows complained it couldn't start the application. I thought it was some weirdness with WinDbg, but then I noticed I couldn't run my web browser with the same error message. My machine eventually locked up on me so I said screw it, and I rebooted my machine.
Now when I start the machine it says Windows can't start, if I don't run the repair program it just hangs with a blinking underscore. I ran the repair program which says it will try to restore it, but this was at the end of the day on my work machine so I had to head home. I can understand how enabling Application Verifier could screw up an application, but how in the world did it bring my whole system down?

When I disconnected it and put it back in later on, checkdisk told me I had a corrupted file and proposed a scan. After scanning, it told me that it had created a found file somewhere. I didnt find it, but since nothing was missing, I didn�t think about it any further. A couple of days later, the same thing happened again, but this time most of my files were gone. I searched everywhere for the "found"files, but there are nowhere to be seen.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI am writing this right now because after the last BSOD it said "Windows can not start" and I had to restore to when it was previously working. So up until that point this is what I did.Since working with computers almost my entire life I know most BSOD are due to either bad memory, drivers, or bios. I started there and updated my nvidea drivers but it happened again. I moved to the motherboard bios.I did find a newer one on there and using ASUS tool I flashed the BIOS. Same thing still happened. Next I ran memtestx86 for 8 hours and it returned no errors.At this point I just decided to look for newest drivers for everything. One thing that happened consistently was that my wireless USB adapter from Cisco had to be unplugged and plugged back in for it to work. I went there first, reinstalled the drivers but still the same thing. I thought maybe it was my hard drive. I downloaded Seagates Utility tool and ran all the tests and they all passed fine. I ran defrag just for good measure along with windows version of the mem test and that passed as well. I still continued to get the BSOD and I have to tell you I'm irritated and also stumped.
Next I moved onto software. I have been using AVG free for years but I know virus programs do some crazy stuff and I got rid of that. Turned on windows defender. I decided that since the wireless adapter didn't work after these crashes maybe lets just go to a direct wired connection. I disconnected the cisco wireless adapter and I'm just using a direct connect right to my router.These come at random times.. nothing I do can trigger it. It can stay on for days and not crash and then there are times it can be up for 10 min and crash.Some of you might notice that in the CPU-Z screenshots I had to take the screenshot with the error underneath. Every time I chose either of the two slots it crashed the program.I have not done anything internally besides add some neon to my computer which does not connect to the board at all.I have seen IRQL blue screen once so I even went as far to go into the power settings for windows and make sure the usb and everything never went into any kind of "standby" mode.
I believe this is still under warranty and I would like to go in with good information if I need to challenge and get new hardware if that's what it is.On a side note I have not touched the memory physically. I know some suggestions were to reseed the memory and chip but In my opinion something that has been working for months that never moves off my desk and is never basically touched besides the power button shouldn't mean something just came loose after 4 months of owning it.Again that's just my opinion. I have removed AVG, Ad-Aware, Some webcam motion detector software (which was a joke) and the only thing that was really installed was Skyrim.

In command prompt when I run the command "verifier /querysettings" another command prompt box pops up, with some writing in it, and then disappears all in a matter of a fraction of a second.
How can I stop it from disappearing so that I can read what it says?
I have been receiving BSOD's. When i boot in safe mode, they do not however apear.I am in safe mode at the time of this message, and when i tried to run perfmon /report , it says " [IMG]res://wdc.dll/error.gif[/IMG] Error:An error occured while attempting to generate the report. For the past 6 months, I have been getting BSOD about 3 times a week at complete random times. It mostly occurs overnight when I'm asleep. I have tried deactivating all hibernate and sleep functions with no luck. I have tried three different anti-virus softwares and am now using Microsoft Security essentials. I have tried various settings for creating a minidump file with NO luck but I think I might know why. My BSOD is a Kernel data inpage error, stop code 0x0000007A, The sys file is lists 80% of the time is volgrx.sys but I've also seen an NTFS.sys listed.

Getting several BSOD events. When I try to zip up the files for loading I get access denied. I changed the registry to take ownership to each file, but still not able to zip up using 7 Zip.

View 5 Replies View RelatedIn the beginning, I had no problems with Win 7 build 7000. I could play whatever video file I wanted and it would work perfectly. Since checking out the various builds after 7000, right up to the latest RC build 7100, I have nothing but problems when playing video files. No matter which player I use, be it WMP, KMPlayer, VLC or Media Player Classic, I get a BSOD after trying to open a video file, including DVD.
(Actually, that is not strictly true as I can open *.mpg files for some strange reason.) I have tried changing my video card for an older ASUS ATI card but got the same result - BSOD. So, my question to you folks is: Can anyone give me a clue as to what might be wrong?
I have encountered BSOD many times and I am not sure what has caused this. Can someone please check the minidump files for me since I do not know how to read them myself.
View 0 Replies View Relatedits been a long time since i last posted about my bsod and after i fixed them i began to get more of these. the only way i can replicate the problem is when i move or copy+paste files in the computer, mostly if it is from my computer to a external hardrive or usb... i attached the latest minidump file i got 021412-15958-01.zip
Edit: Go another bsod... if it helps i uploaded the minidump from that crash 021512-21153-01.zip
