I have a 120Gig USB drive that plugs into my pc (Win 7) and works fine. I gave it to a friend as it is surplus to requirement, but when i plugged it into there laptop which has also has Win 7 on, the light on the drive lights up but it doesn't actually connect.
View 9 RepliesI have searched google for ours trying to find a fix for this but to no avail.CD drive and virtual drives dont appear in my computer and whenever i put in a dvd nothing comes up.it appears in device manager and disc management however so i know there is nothing physically wrong with the optical drive. Under disc manager i can see the details about the dvd such as dvd name, size etc.i tried changing drive letter and path but unfortunately that doesnt fix it. the letter "applies" for a second then disappears again.
View 5 Replies View RelatedOk i have a Seagate freeagent pro 500g external HDD. Was running usb but new MB has esata so i wanted to give it a go. Well not so easy as i thought.
If esata drive is hooked to port when computer loads ,Bios sees the drive but wont get past the windows load screen.
Unpluged from port and windows loads fine. So i plug it in and windows makes the normal noise but nuthing shows up. Wait 7 mins a drive apears but will always cause page to stop responding. Usb still works fine jus rather esata due to larg files
I just installed the RC last night and everything was going okay until I restarted my computer and my backup drive disappeared. It was accessible until I restarted, I didn't install any new drivers.
It's an IDE drive.. it doesn't show up in Disk Management either so I'm kind of stuck at what to do. Any ideas?
So I was trying to uninstall this one driver (it caused IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL problems)
and I eventually did through safe mode but I noticed that my dvd's/cds weren't getting readand it wouldn't show up under my computer. It shows up as a BD-ROMand it was cause of Daemon Toolswhich was a known problemso I was trying to fix that too.Then all of a sudden my computer stalls at the BIOS screenand then I unplugged my D drive from one of the SATA ports
and currently that's like the only to start the computer now.I uninstalled Daemon's Toolsbut I still can't get my DVD drive to work.I changed SATA ports and it bootedbut then it tried to install CD drive drivers and then it failed. Neither of my hard drives work in normal windows with the gpu in. On a fresh reformat they work for a short while before starting to click and freeze up. On an older installation this freeze is instant, as soon as the desktop loads.It works as it should in safe mode leading me to believe that it may be a software problem but I haves no idea.The hard drives work as intended in normal windows without the GPU.I don't think it's my PSU as it's 750 watts. If it's software I have no idea where to begin.It may be worth mentioning my mobo (MSI z68 gd55 g3) was sent away to get a BIOS update for compatability with ivy bridge, but I have installed the drivers for the update.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am running WHS but the same principal applies as 7. I have a HP N40L Server and have no problem sharing anything internal or external after it is connected following standard procedure.
My question is, is it possible to make Windows 7/WHS automatically share plug and play storage devices. The Server is over Wi-Fi and sometimes for big files it can be too slow and is easier just plugging in a HD.
Ideally
1. File is too big to rip directly to Desktop or Laptop from Server.
2. Plug in storage device to Server via any of the four USBs on the Servers front.
3. Go back to my regular Desktop or Laptop
4. Go to My Computer and notice the new drive has appeared under the Sever with my other internal shared drives
5. Drag and Drop to and from Server and Computer as I wish.
I get the message to format my pendrive as soon as i plug it. It could not be formatted. What is happening with this. I tried many options like setting StorageDevicePolices, low level format but could not get out of this problem.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI received my laptop yesterday - Core i5, 4GB RAM, Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. I proceeded to install some apps from Microsoft and Adobe. Installation went fine and the apps started without problems. As soon as I saw the long list of fonts in Word, I wanted to remove as many of them as I possibly could. Brought up Fonts panel. Only 10 fonts - 10 ancient, bitmap fonts. What!? I saw and selected many fonts in Microsoft and Adobe apps. The fonts are indeed there, but they are simply not shown - no Segoe, no Cambria, no Corbel, no Constantia, not even Arial and Times New Roman, nothing.I got nervous and decided to restore Windows all the way back to the starting point.Today, I created the recovery DVDs from the factory partition. Rebooted from the DVDs to re-image C drive. Set up Windows and created my account. Windows 7 came up fresh. I went straight to the Fonts panel to check. Horror - the same 10 bitmap fonts, and nothing else.The factory-installed Windows 7 has problems showing fonts? What should I do now?

So, I tries to cancel it. It wouldn't cancel. So, I disconnected the USB HDD by pulling the USB chord.From that day, it is not working.When I connect it will show it as a local-disk, but not show any details like size or name of the drive. It takes forever to open right-click menu and properties. Disk Manager takes for ever to show the list of drives. If I double-click on the drive, my whole system becomes slow and windows explorer hangs.If I restart my system in Safe mode, it will show the drive in Disk Manager as RAW and it gives me an option to format.Is there a way to recover the data and the HDD.

We were without a printer for a few months and then bought the HP Photosmart 5510 which I like. The third in the list is shown as a HP Photosmart 5510 (Network), obviously the same.The first needs removing, how do I do that please?The second is the current printer and is correct.I can account for the third entry. I've tried to set up a Home Group Network between PC and Netbook, without success, a suspect I may have changed the printer name for networking and perhaps gave it an IP No too.

For a while now, I've had problems with USB devices, but today I was looking online and someone mentioned a solution to a problem I was having, saying to look in Device Manager under the Ports tree.My Ports tree in DM is gone, but I also don't know how to access my COM3 port or other ports any other way. Should the Ports tree be there? I've already restarted my computer and entered the BIOS menu, and it said my USB Ports were enabled.I've already been to the Registry Editor in Blah-Blah key and entered "3" (was already that way).My ports are just gone. What should I do?
I have noticed on my PC, netstat does not display TCP ports, only UDP ports are shown. I have searched online for this issue but couldn't find anything useful.I'm running win7 x64 ultimate.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI run an accounting program called PASTEL ACCOUNTING which generates emails that are sent to OUTLOOK 2010's outbox. i can see them in the outbox and they are subsequently sent correctly. i know this because they are received correctly by the recipient. However once the mail has left the Outbox it is not stored in the SENT folder and i therefore have no record of its existence! PASTEL tell me that since it has found its way into OUTLOOK it must be an OUTLOOK problem! i have a feeling MS will tell me its a PASTEL problem..

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy laptop is connected to a router (DLink DSL 524T) via network cable. Although I could still connect to the net through the router there is a cross shown between the Network and Internet in the Networks and Sharing Center.
This isn't a big deal (since I connect to the Internet) but I was wondering why the cross is there? Is there a way I could get it off?
P.S. - I've attached a screen-shot of the network and sharing center in case my explanation was a bit confusing

I have notifications set to show all.The way I have it set up is there is a shortcut of taskman in my startup folder. The properties of the shortcut are to start it minimized. This way when the PC starts, the taskmanager is not seen/opened. The options in the taskmanager itself are to hide when minimized, minimize on use.So the way it used to work was when the PC was started or rebooted, I'd have taskmanager running in the system tray. But for whatever reason it no longer does this. I've checked the shortcut settings of taskman in startup and everything looks ok. If I opened taskmananger and then minimized it, it would normally retreat back to the system tray. This no longer happens either, it just disappears.
The only changes made to how the PC starts up is, I have it auto-login into a password protected account and then the account enters the locked state before anything can be done. This way the PC is still protected, but I'm no longer waiting for things to load after entering my PW the old way. With it setup this way as soon as I enter my password from the Locked screen, everything has loaded and its ready to go much faster than not having it auto login/lock.I have not tried to boot/startup the old way, but I wouldn't want to keep it that way even if thats whats keeping taskmanager from starting up in the system tray. Because the problem still exists that when taskman is manually opened with hide when minimized and minimize on use, it just disappears and doesn't show up in the notification area/system tray.
