I have a customized Windows Home Premium SP1 installation on a USB bootable drive. I wanted to know if there was any way I can have some sort of pre-boot authentication that involves typing in a password onto the USB drive to access the bootup of Windows 7 installation?
Is there anyway to accomplish this with TrueCrypt? Other software?
I have a problem with two external-hardrives that I cant access. I keep getting incorrect password or not a truecrypt volume I have one drive that is a 2 terabyte drive and another one that's 1 terabyte. They both where working fine when I tested them about a week ago. Since Saturday I have been trying to access the 2 terabyte drive, but I just keep getting incorrect password.Yesterday I also tested the 1 terabyte drive but still no luck. I know that both the drives cant be malfunctioning.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am currently unable to access my bios because of the TrueCrypt Boot Loader. This also means I can't change my boot order to boot into a cd. The boot order was messed up, and whenever the password is entered it just says "No available partition" and then shuts down, so I have to press [ESC] to avoid the boot loader. And this skips any chance to enter the bios.Is there any way to fixmbr/fixboot without booting into a USB or CD?The only other way would be to remove my hard drive and get a new one to install windows on.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI had certain partition on my HDD. I encrypted 1 whole partition using TrueCrypt. The partition is NOT where the Windows is installed. Now, I can Mount and Open the partition using the password which I mentioned earlier.What do I have to do to get the original partition decrypted and back as normal partition in HDD.I have some data in the partition, so I haven't tried anything by myself. By the TrueCrypt website, as I think they are saying is, mount the drive and just drag the files (or copy-paste the files) and they will be decrypted. Is that correct? I also had some programs installed in that partition, so where should I paste all the files? Do I need to create a new partition and paste everything there? Will the programs already installed in this partition will then work fine?

View 3 Replies View RelatedOn our office pc at work with a 32gb ssd i decided to do a disk encryption so that there would be a password on boot, Everything seemed to be successful upon restart i get a bsod so i put in the recovery cd that was created and tried to decrypt the drive, It says it was successful but it was not, so i did it again and still no access, I put the windows cd in and it found unformatted space i reinstalled windows 7 but the old files were not there I put the hard drive in another pc and tried to decrypt it using the cd but i unplugged it before doing so and it started to decrypt the 32gb hard drive that is not even attached which leads me to believe that the drive is still encrypted, I did a data recovery but it did not find the old files so again i think the drive is still encrypted.

In fact, because I had no other available space, I copied a disc iso to one such partition just last night? This morning, however, when I try to mount and access that partition, Windows won't recognize the mounted partition, and when I run "repair filesystem" from within TrueCrypt -- the equivalent of running chkdsk from a command prompt, I get: Corrupt master file table. Windows will attempt to recover master file table from disk. After a lengthy wait (it IS a 250GB partition), it returns the message I least want to hear: Windows cannot recover master file table. CHKDSK aborted.

Once I copy the data & am then going to create the "hidden volume" option Truecrypt offers. How will this sync up with Second copy? If it makes a difference in syncing second copy I would also like to set up the main media HDD the same way with the Outer volume & hidden volume options. So keeping it a perfect encrypted sync if possible.

If I do not do this a message saying "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key.." comes up, and just keeps popping up regardless of what I press! I would try using my boot disk but for the life of me I can't find it, and as windows 7 was already installed on this computer when we got it 3 year ago, I can't accurately recall if it came with one!I am no expert on BIOS, but I have read other problems similar to this one, and know that if I don't have the boot disk or the OS disk, I will need to know that at least.I am curious if the (Hard drive) is the issue. The BIOS tells me that anything in parentheses is disabled from corresponding type menu.

On reboot I sometimes get this message and have to reboot again. However, when I leave it on overnight (usually when it is downloading something big), when I wake up in the morning I am greeted with a black screen with the words:"Reboot and select proper boot device or Insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key"When this happens I simply press the power button a few seconds to turn it off, then turn it on again and it boots normally. (pressing a key only results in the message being repeated)What infuriates me is that it only ever happens when I leave it on overnight so I don't know when and how exactly it occurs but it almost always does. Like I said earler, it never does this when I am using it as it works fine otherwise. It just won't stay on overnight when I need it to.

So I have been trying to get my computer running for a few days now. At first it wasn't booting at all, it would be a black screen with a blinking cursor. I have cleared cmos a few times, turned psu off, drained charge from psu, turned psu back on and got it working that way for about 10 minutes, then it crashed. Ever since then I can't get it to get running again. I think it says something about "fatal error" and then goes on telling me to boot into safe mode to remove any new hardware. Is it a hardware problem I'm having? If so, I'm screwed, too broke The best I can get is the screen where it says run windows normally or run in safe mode. But it will just crash on either option I pick. And when I try to run from the dvd drive with my windows 7 disc it's just a black screen with a blinking cursor. I'm not sure what to do...ugh I feel like it's something really simple to fix. I left my computer sitting for a few months and havn't tried to boot it until recently, so I don't remember if I put any updates on it or not.

I am running an Advent desktop PC and its stats are as follows; Intel Core i5-2310 CPU @ 2.90GHz 8GB RAM Win 7 64 bit.The problem I am having is when ever i boot up the computer it shows the Advent logo-screen where I can access the boot menu etc but then it goes to a black screen with a cursor/underscore flashing in the top left... This screen stays for quite a while and I am not sure if it stops because of a key I have pressed or just because it has run its course but after it disappears the computer goes back to the logo-screen for a moment and proceeds to boot up as normal except slightly slower than usual.It is a relatively new computer and it has no problems running at all once the boot up is complete it is fast and as friendly as ever.

I just changed my PSU and upgraded my graphics card today. I tried booting it up and it came up with this message "reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key."I'm pretty sure I got all the cables in correctly and I only have one harddrive. No externals.By the way, I don't have my windows 7 CD because I let a friend borrow it and I won't be able to get it back for some time. However, I do have a Windows XP CD if that helps in any way.

If I run Repair from my installation disk and in System Recovery Options, it says that it has detected problems and asks if I want to repair it. No OS files found on disk.

I think that this is because Startup Repair is trying to fix the thumbdrive that I keep my Windows 7 install files in. I am overseas now and as my computer does not have an internal optical disk drive and my external drive is back home, thus using my thumbdrive is the only way to access the repair console.
I tried running a few commands, namely:
bootrec /fixmbr
bootrec /fixboot
bootrec /rebuildbcd
Fixmbr and fixboot work, but when I run RebuildBCD, it detects C:Windows as having a Windows installation, but if I type Y(yes) or A(all), it says that the requested system device cannot be found.
My Windows 7 has stopped booting after a restart, the system would just endlessly play the boot animation and not boot properly... system restore won't work, startup repair won't work, chdsk and sfc won't work. I have yet to try and see whether a Registry fix works. Windows loads the WRE VERY slowly.

Then I tried to run the Windows 7 installation disk, I go to the cmd prompt and run the

The pack is not online
and then i run the Bootrec /ScanOS, it came with 0 identified Windows Installations, this is why I come into the cmd prompt as I could not select the installed OS.
I've tried that from bootable cd to repair the install but the partition of windows7 is not recognized still.
I am receiving an error message on my Gateway One ZX4300-01e. It continues to ask me to: Reboot and select proper boot device or insert Boot Media in selected boot device and press a key.I bought this computer on ebay. it was a seller refurbished item and does not have a boot recovery disk.
