I'm having an ongoing wireless problem with my Windows 7 PC in that speeds are a lot slower than expected and I even get intermittent 'connected to network but no internet access' problems.I have two computers on my network: a Windows PC, and a Macbook. With the laptop my download speed is regularly 17mbps. But my PC can barely pass 7mbps. I ran speedtest with the laptop on the floor next to the PC so I know they both have the same line of sight to the router. My laptop also never drops the connection. This tells me that the router cannot be at fault and that it's setup correctly.I have the latest drivers for my PCI wireless adapter. Windows is up to date.Is it possible that the wireless adapter just isn't very good? (I bought it as it had good user reviews). Although it barely managers a signal strength higher than 2 bars (which according to Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector is about -85dbm Very poor!).Is it likely that some adapters work better with some makes of router? I have a Netgear router and the adapter it TP-Link.

We recently switched providers from Megapath DSL to Verizon dsl. With Megapath all computers on our network could access the internet. With verizon all the xp computers connect to the internet with no problem but the windows 7 pc's only connect intermittently and sometimes not at all. They connect to the network just fine.

I'm having a connection issue with my new computer running Windows 7 Professional x64. When I first set it up, the wireless connection worked flawlessly, and then the next day the internet cut out and has not connected since (currently 2 days). Note that I can still connect to the Network, it is just the internet connection that is the issue. Other computers and devices can still connect to the network and internet, and as a temp fix I am using a wired connection to the same router.
My router is a Dynalink RTA1025W Rev2 using WPA2-Personal security, and my computer has a 802.11n Wireless LAN Card.
Release / Renew the IPFlushing the DNSCreating a static IP addressUpdating the wireless driverUninstalling / re-installing the network card / driverResetting the modem/routerResetting the computerDisabling the firewallChanging the security type (tried WEP and none)System restoring the computerWiping the computer back to it's original state I've probably tried a couple more things that have now slipped to the back of my mind in the many hours of frustration which I have encountered. None of the above have worked, even temporarily.
I have also attempted to connect to a neighbor's unsecured wireless network, however I was also unsuccessful with that.

Ok, I'm going to give a small amount of back story here as it may be relevant to the current problem. Yesterday I formatted my Win XP PC and tried to install Windows 7 on it. 3/4 of the way through the installation my PC would restart, and upon loading back into windows I would receive this error message:The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install Windows, click to restart the computer, and then restart the installatioThere were a number of possible fixes to this problem detailed hereI eventually got the installation to complete properly by removing my Sound Card and my Network Card.Ok, now onto the current problem. As stated, I have a new, clean install of Windows 7 32 which seems unable to connect to our BT Home Hub router. I have an ethernet connection to the router (lights: check, and cables are secure etc) and also a Wireless Network Card which may or may not be in a functioning state. By which I mean, I have had problems with it in the past but I can't remember exactly what is wrong with it. However, as I did with my XP install I want to connect via the ethernet cable.
In the Network and Sharing Center there are no networks listed.I have attempted to update the drivers for my MB and the Network Card, neither of which seemed to do anything. If I try to ping google or anywhere else it fails. This could end up being a very simple issue, but I'm completely new to Windows 7 (and skipped Vista) so I don't really no where to go from here, and am kind of burned out after spending 8 hours yesterday just installing windows. My PC specs:Custom BuiltOS: Windows 732bitMOBO: ASUS M2N4-SLICPU: AMD Dual Core 3 GHzGfx Card: GeForce GTS 250Network Card: Realtek 8185

Until recently I ran windows xp. I shared a built in wall Ethernet jack with another desktop. I used my router (Linksys Befsr41) as a switch by disabling dhcp and connecting the wall ethernet and the two computers to the Lan ports on the router. The other desktop until recently was also running windows xp, but was upgraded and is now an apple imac running os x lion. My internet briefly stopped working but I was able to reset my router and get my internet running again. I then needed to reformat my build and installed windows 7 ultimate 32 bit. I cant quite pinpoint my problem. If I connect straight to the wall ethernet jack i have internet access. However if i use my router as a switch to get internet for both my pc and the apple imac, I will not have internet access. Sometimes the internet does indeed come back on in this circumstance, only to get disconnected again shortly. I am not sure who to blame because the router worked fine when spliiting ethernet for xp machines, and I have internet access when running straight from the wall to my pc

Windows 7 won't connect to the internet? The ethernet cable is plugged in and it works, but when I am on Windows 7 it cannot detect that I am connected to the internet. I have tried unplugging and replugging and restarting but it still doesn't work. When I troubleshoot, it says: Install a driver for your network adapter.

I have done a full clean install of Windows 7 32 bit on a desk top and having major problems connecting to the net.
I have an onboard VIA Rhine II fast ethernet adapter connecting to a Thomson TG585v7 router. The router is fine as I have a laptop on XP connect to it on a home network.
The problem on my desktop is that although Windows 7 will find and connect to the home network the connection is shockingly slow. It takes over half an hour to load Google home page or the log into the router itself (i could draw them faster).
As far as the adapters drivers, i have tried the following 32 bit drivers with no success.
v1.09 (auto installed by 7)
v1.12 (from VIA's website for 7)
v3.84 (for XP and vista in compatiblity mode)
After reading other forums I have also tried the following:
adding in a random network address on the adapter
turning off the Remote Differential Compression
even disabling the offload in cmd prompt
And still no joy, can someone please give something else to try!

So, we have a network of about one terabyte of storage on it. It is normally connected to my laptop, a desktop and our Playstation 3. Obviously it connects via internet with our wireless router and such but for some reason it won't connect to my laptop? I have everything except a few programs on the network (Everything from my documents to my pictures to my other programs are stored on the network)...thus not being able to access it is a HUGE difficulty

I have had this problem sporadically for the last month or so (since moving to this apartment). I am on the network but it says I have no internet acces. Other people on this network seem to connect fine (although they have had issues to) but I cant. I have 3 devices, all of which cant connect. On top of this, when i restart the computer or disconnect and reconnect adapter, I get internet access for about 20 seconds, enough time to load a google search or one webpage. however inevitably it always returns to the no internet access status. I have tried numerous fixs including reseting winsocks, using a new adapter, clearing browser history, changeing to static ip and changing back to automatically obtained one.

So I have an HP laptop and I'm trying to connect to a Brother wireless printer that I got for Christmas. The printer is fine, it's connected and full of ink etc. My laptop had automatically connected to it but it wasn't working and an error said something like "error connecting over network". So I then proceeded to try and delete it and reconnect, but now it isn't appearing when I try and connect to a device. I'm sat literally next to it. I'm not good with computers etc.On the Conrol Panel it says I don't have network access: So I'm not sure what to do because I just want to connect to my printer.

I bought a week ago a Dell pc with Win 7 Pro 64 bit. When I connected it to the network (40-50 pc & laptops), I realized that when I am trying to copy from the network and download from internet, the speed is really low. I changed Speed&duplex from auto to 100 mb full, I disabled Remote differential compression, I updated all the drivers, etc but still the same problem. Does anybody has any idea what do I have to do to make this work properly?

Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium
ACER Aspire X3400
Nvidia Nforce 10/100/1000 ethernet
Cable internet
SB1502 Cable modem
When I try to connect to the internet, it just says "identifying" then says it is an "unidentified network". I've tried:
Resetting the modem
Checked all cables
Uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers
Disabled & enabled the drivers
It's set to automatically connect to DNS
Updating the ethernet with the latest from Microsoft
Ran ipconfig /release and renew
Tried another modem and new cables
Tried other houses with DSL & Cable internet
I installed a USB wireless device which worked when I tested it in wireless areas. But so far nothing has worked for the wired part. At one point before all this started, the internet worked intermittently and would work at other houses perfectly. So I assumed it was my modem or connection at my house. But then I plugged another PC into my modem and it worked instantly. So I know there is no physical problem with my connection, modem or cables.

I have a Sony Vaio laptop, running Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit, Up until 2 days ago I had absolutely no problem using its wifi and/or staying connected to the Internet. Two days ago, however, while being on Skype, my Internet connection got disconnected unexpectedly. With windows Network Diagnostics,I sometimes get "The DNS server isn't responding", and sometimes "Local Area Connection/Wireless Network Connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration"OR "computer is trying to use a DNS server that is incorrect or doesn't exist."Even with the cable I am not able to connect to the internet so I can't update the network adapter or fix the problem online. Looking at the 'Basic network information and set up connections' (in Control Panel - Network and Sharing Center) I see my laptop (sometimes connected, sometimes however the line between the laptop and the 'unidentified network' has a yellow triangle on it) and I can see the 'internet' with a red X on the connection line between that and the 'unidentified network. When checking the 'Wireless Network Connection Status' it's showing that it's connected, activity's showing 'sent and received bytes' but says 'no Internet access' to both IPv4 and IPv6 connectivity.I read lots of blogs and advice and tried many of those 'fixes' that were recommended, some of which were the following (shorter versions):
- unplugging and replugging the power cable to the modem
- resetting the wireless router
-rolling back driver
- obtaining IP address and DNS server address automatically for Internet Protocol V4 and V6
[code].....
None of the above worked. Right now under 'status' it's showing:
IPv4 connectivity: no Internet access
PIv6 connectivity: no network access
I've used this network for a while and this is the first time this problem has occurred.Be it network driver issue or a patch of some sort i may need to download, until i can connect to the internet, I can't fix this problem on my own. In the meanwhile no other computer or phone with wifi in the house has any problem connecting to the Internet.I took it to a computer technician who said I need to reinstall Windows 7.

I decided to just post this as a new thread, as it appears to be getting positive results for most people. I highly recommend it anyway, as you will eventually encounter this if you apply all of your updates. For those of you reporting problems with your network after updating MS Office or installing Adobe CS3..If you are having Internet connection problems related to "Unidentified Network" showing and the "!" over your NIC icon, then this should take care of it: [code] If you do, stop it and disable it. It is actually the Bonjour DNS Responder Service, and I believe it is the cause of the "Unidentified Network."The Unidentified Network disappeared after stopping this service and a quick disable/enable of the NIC, restoring Internet access.I Actually just rebooted, edited this post, and then re-enabled the offensive service to see what would happen...Immediately after enabling the NIC and this bastard service, the "Unidentified Network" returned...stopped it, disabled it, disable/enable NIC...Internet back up and running and no "Unidentified Network." (woot - woot!)
I experienced this in both build 7100 and 7127...I am running 7127 now x64 - and discovered this fix just last night...so far so good just rebooted and then edited this post...I believe this fix will solve 7100 build issues too; however..I have not tested 7100 again yet.I also re-enabled Win 7's Discovery Mapping services, but always leave IPv6 disabled just because I am not using it.another two reboots, and a hard disk addition, and no problems with the Internet! - If you tried another fix such as changing the address of your network adapter, under "Advanced" - this is not necessary...I set mine back to "Not Configured." Everything is working fine as long as the Bonjour service is not running.. [code]

ACER Eee PC running Win7 with all windows updates. The problem is the machine running Windows 7 Home Premium intermittently loses "internet access". Where the bars are full, but the ! shows and there is no connectivity. The other Win7 machine is set to automatically install updates and is running fine, although it seemed as though I was restoring it every week or so to get connectivity.Back to the point, the machine in question is Win7 and all available updates are installed.Bonjour service is "stopped" (but it runs fine on the other Win7 machine), TCP/IP was reset, Winsock is reset, registry/temp files cleaned via CCleaner. Zone Alarm Free and AVG are running, but they were running this morning, yesterday and a while ago when it lost connectivity again. One time I went to bed annoyed ready to set the %^&* thing on fire, but in the morning it was working fine!
I'm not exactly a N00B, but I'm dying for an explanation or a fix other than restoring every time "internet access" isn't available. Mind you, this house is full of nerds...Android phone, two iPhones, Lubuntu, Win7 Basic, Wii...all wireless and a wired Vonage that all works great.I was a member of That Computer Guy forums for a couple of years and learned a lot from the moderators and know how much work you guys do to give us this free service.

My computer had been working fine and while I was watching a movie on my computer the internet randomly gave out (wasn't streaming the movie or using the internet to watch it). Now I can't connect to the internet and it says that the network is Unidentified. I've tried a bunch of fixes such as uninstalling my drivers and letting windows reinstall them, changing my mac address, resetting the router, checked everything was plugged in, disable bonjour, tried releasing my ip and renewing it. I've tried so many things that have popped up on google that I have no idea what else to do. I don't want to reformat my computer if I can avoid it. If anyone has any idea I'd be so happy.I'm running Windows 7 x64 Home Premium. Other computers on the network are able to connect to the internet and I can access files from other computers on the network.

I have a laptop with a Intel N6230 wireless card which I'm having a strange issue with. I can be connected fine to my wireless network but if I perform a reboot the laptop 'connects' to the network however has no internet access (nor can I access the router via its ip address). The only way i can get it working again is delete the wireless adapter via the device manager, let windows re discover and install it, and all is fine again - nothing else is required. It continues to work fine until I shut down and reboot where it drops again (sleep modes or hibernation do not cause any problem).
