Nov 26, 2009I'm wondering if anyone has successfully overclocked the ThinkPad T400 running the hybrid ATI Mobility Radeon 3470HD with Windows 7 x64.
I don't need any speculation, I've done a lot of reading and a lot of testing and nothing works properly.
ThinkPad T400 Display Issue
May 19, 2009I have a ThinkPad T400 and I'm dual-booting Vista and 7 (but I only really use 7). In 7, when you press Windows+P, you get 4 display options: Computer Only, Duplicate, Extend, and Projector Only. Since I just have one laptop screen, I obviously want Computer Only. But every time I close the lid (or restart), it reverts back to an Extended display, which means when I move the cursor to the right of the screen to use a scrollbar, close a maximized window, or desktop peek, I have to be precise or else the cursor will fly off the right side of the screen into my non-existent extended display.
Any ideas to fix this?

May 12, 2009I have a T400 which has the following two display adapters:
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3400 Series
Mobile Intel(R) 45 Express Chipset Family
After installing Windows 7 and checking device manager, the ATI adapter does show up under the "Display adapters' section, but it has a ! sign on it, and if I click for details, it says:
This device cannot start. (Code 10)
I tried downoading and installing this:
Lenovo Support & downloads - ThinkPad Switchable Graphics Driver for Windows Vista 32bit and 64bit - ThinkPad T400, R400, T500, W500
and when I rebooted, it went through some diagnostic tests in a cmd window to finish installation. But when I checked the device manager again, the ATI adapter still says it cannot start.
I also tried this:
ATI Catalystâ„¢ Mobility Display Driver
which I got to by selecting Windows 7 32-bit > Mobility Radeon > Mobility Radeon HD 3000 series.
It seemed to install OK, but I got a message which I've gotten with previous attempts, which says:
"The Catalyst Control Center is not supported by the driver version of your enambled graphics adapter. Please update your ATI graphics driver, or enable your ATI adapter using the Displays manager."
I went to the device manager, right-clicked on the ATI adapter and did Update Driver, and it did at first find a better match but said it couldn't be installed with the same error message from above (Code 10). Now, when I try to update the driver again, it says the best driver software is already installed.
Any ideas to fix this?
Unable To Boot PC / Reboots To Initial BIOS Screen
May 15, 2012I have issues booting my desktop. It shows the initial Intel chipset screen (F10 for BIOS, F2 for boot order) and then screen turns black for 2 seconds and computer reboots back to the Intel screen. [code] Steps Performed so far:
1. I can go into BIOS but cannot boot the PC.
2. I tried reseating all memory modules and used 1 memory stick one at a time. No success. 3. Removed graphics card and connected monitor to integrated video port on mobo - no success. 4. reseated HDD connections - no success. HDD, 5. RAM are getting detected in BIOS.
6. Unable to boot to safe mode.
7. Tried reinstalling the OS using CD. Stuck at Windows is loading file. The bar moves for 5 seconds and then stops.
None of the above worked
Initial Windows Screen Before Login Screen And Freezes / Then Sends Into Startup Repair
Mar 28, 2012As of about 3 days ago my Dell Inspiron N7010 (Windows 7 Home Prem 64bit) fails to boot up. It gets to the initial Windows screen before the login screen and freezes, then sends me into Startup Repair. [code] I've tried running the diagnostics and get no error codes. I've tried restore points, memory diagnostics.. pretty much everything except factory image, with no success. I have a lot of government programs installed on this laptop, so.

Jun 26, 2012When Win 7 pro (32 bits) boots up, as we all notice, there is a second or so when there is a black screen, w/ just your mouse cursor, and then you are supposed to see the blue Welcome screen.
In the past 2 months, my computer is stuck at that black screen about 7 times, as recent as tonight. I've done a clean install w/ the latest Nvidia driver 2 weeks ago. No change. It looks like win 7 Pro is stuck there and waiting for something as my hard drive light blink on and off.
So, I would do nothing, or sometimes I would disconnect the HDMI port connects to my 3rd PC Panel (see below), and I would wait for 5 min. or so. Then my login logo shows up, I click it, and I got to windows.
Now, w/ the normal boot up, I don't have that login logo, win 7 pro will simply boot up directly to win 7 main screen after I turn on the computer.
Some1 said this could be IRQ sensing problem of the video card. But so far, I have no proof on that 1 way or the other: All these started about 2 months ago, at or near the same time when the Sharp LED TV technician came to my house and upgraded all the firmware, including the firmware that consumers can't download, to my Sharp LED LCD TV, as the power button wasn't working.
Then in the past 2 mth., every time I turned on my LCD TV, which is connected to my computer as the 3rd screen via a DVI to HDMI cable, Win 7 senses this 3rd panel, and the screen went black and back on again. This isn't the way it used to be: as it WAS NOT SWITCH TO THE HDMI PC PORT.
My Sharp LCD has 4 HDMI output. Tonight for e.g., I was on Input 2, which is satellite, but as soon as I turn on the Sharp LCD, win 7 senses this 3rd screen, and the screen do that black screen then back on again w/ the music charm note.
This was not the way it used to be, in the past yr., w/ this same set up, win 7 only went to the black screen and back on when I switch to Input 1, which is PC at 1920x1080. And I don't know if the above is related to the boot up lock up or not.
Windows 7 Won't Boot, Stuck On BIOS Screen
May 20, 2012I built a new gaming PC about a month and a half ago and its been running fine up until now. I turned it on a couple of days ago and Win 7 was freezing up. The mouse cursor was a blue wheel and I couldn't click or do anything. I couldn't even access the command line and ctrl+alt+del didn't work either. At this point it did boot up in safe mode. I powered it down and now it won't boot past BIOS. I reseated everything and checked all the connections and everything seems good.

Aug 22, 2011My netbook froze on friday night. Try to restart, but was stuck at grey screen. It has asus logo and eee pc written. The options f2 to run setup and tab to display bios post yields nothing. In other words, pressing either button doesn't work. I have removed the battery, pressed the power button without the power cord, put everything back in, tapping f2. So far, no progress. Few times, i try pressing f2 similtaneously as i hit the power button, i got american megatrends screens. Still, none go further. I have this netbook for a little over a year. The warranty just expired a month ago. It is running window 7 starter already installed when i got it at bestbuy. I had contacted asus support, and tried some i mentioned above. I prefer to do this by myself.

Oct 16, 2012I've just built my first PC which uses a MSI Z77A-GD65 MOBO.I burned the Windows 7 .iso file to a DVD and tried to boot it from that (I went into the BIOS and explicitly stated for the system to do so) However when I do, it produces the phrase "Reboot and Select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key".The disk is brand new and clean and the LED on the optical drive flashes as if attempting to read from the disk but to no avail.I have also put the .iso file onto a flash memory stick and tried to boot it from that it says "SYSLINUX 4.03 2010-10-22 EDD Copyright (C) 1994-2919 H. Peter Anvin et al.ERROR: No configuration file found.No DEFAULT or UI configuration directive found!" then it asks me "boot:"When I type in the .iso file name, it says EDIT: "Invalid or corrupt kernel image." but I can view the .iso fine on windows explorer on my other computer.

Jun 24, 2011I've an hp mini 110 with windows seven starter and I want to make a dual boot 7/XP...I downloaded the 32bit version of the sp3 XP and following this guide: Dual Boot Installation with Windows 7 and XP I installed on a new partition...(I didn't put the sata drivers cause when I started the usb on the boot xp started to install without problem)..after xp finished I booted but I get this error "windows could not start because of a computer disk hardware configuration problem.."...when I only can see XP and It can't be opened...I tryed with the 7-system-recovery on the usb to make recovery and put these strings on prompt

but nothing,same error!!!I thought it was a sata driver issue so I downloaded the drivers and opened on the system recovery through usb but it says they can't be installed....so should I slipstream in the xp iso before install xp??

Computer Will Not Boot On Initial Startup - No Indications Of Crash
Apr 10, 2011When I press the power up button my computer will start to boot to a blank screen. My main drive is a 120gb SSD and Slave is a 1tb hdd and will not start spinning. After about 30 seconds I can hard restart the computer and press the power button again and the computer will fully boot with no indications of a crash. If I press the reset button itself it will not reset the computer unless it is fully started. Also if I put the computer into sleep mode it will do the same thing. How to get my computer to boot the first time I start up the computer.

I can set the boot priority to ata hdd2 however it will not boot from it because it does not list my hdd id next to it. Nov 13, 2011Whenever my machine sleeps/hibernates on its own, for battery or whatever, the display doesn't come back upon resume. The O/S comes up and I can actually ctl-alt-del and hear myself log in, but I cannot see anything.
I think I am having an ATI Mobility FireGL V5200 driver issues on Windows 7, but I've not seen any updated driver. Also I tried uninstalling the driving and running a less than ideal default windows display driver which works fine, but eventually gets overwritten by windows update with the latest and faulty driver.
I have to power down and potentially lose work to get the display back. If i self sleep/hibernate the machine, it comes back fine. It's only when after some time on battery or if its sleeps due to inactivity that this happens.
I see a bunch of Linux/Ubuntu wikis on workarounds but nothing for Win 7 so far.
Black Screen With Cursor After Loading Windows 7 On Lenovo Thinkpad?
Sep 12, 2012wondering if anyone could help me solve this problem. When starting computer everything works fine, the windows logo loads, I get the welcome word on the screen and just when the screen should turn into desktop all I get i black screen with a cursor. I can access the Task Manager through CTRL+Alt+Del.restart or shut down the computer. I tried setting it to an earlier date, but no difference. I tried the system repair - found no problems. So do not know what to do with it. It does load in safe mode.This has happened yesterday after I have attached hdmi cable to it, which I have done many times previously without any problems, do not know if this could have any connection to the problem.

Jan 6, 2010I have a brand new, 40-hour-old, Lenovo T400 with Windows 7 Home Premium factory-installed. I had my cable company come out to set up the broadband this morning, but they couldn't set up my email because Windows Live Mail is not compatible for configuration with my local cable broadband. They also couldn't install the free anti-virus service that comes with the cable modem service, because it is not compatible with Windows 7.
This is my first computer in 5 years (was offline entirely for 4.5 years until last June, when I got my Blackberry, so please forgive my naiivette' [sorry, I know that is mis-spelled; I don't know how to type an "i" with an umlaut; my BB auto-corrects the spelling on that word]), so I have never used Vista before, but have read enough to know that it sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. Is there a way to downgrade a factory-installed Windows 7 OS on a Lenovo T400 to XP?
In my past 16-hr attempt to get non-web-based email for a $1000+ device that is beginning to seem more like just a really expensive DVD and MP3 player with minimal web abilities, while my $50 Blackberry has email, near-normal desktop web browsing (except Flash Media), text, phone, video, and mp3 player capabilities; I called the cable company (Mediacom) who told me to call Lenovo or Microsoft.
Called Lenovo first, and according to the tech I spoke with, the ONLY free non-web-based email client that is compatible with the combination of Windows 7 on a Lenovo T400 with cable broadband, that would allow access to email from more than 1 email address from different email providers, is Thunderbird, HOWEVER, when I went to download it from Mozilla, I kept getting warning messages that Thunderbird is infected with viruses. Does anyone know where I can find a virus-free copy of Thunderbird? Like a mirror site, or maybe from a file-sharing site from someone who downloaded/uploaded it before it was infected? The tech said he had no other solutions and told me to call Microsoft.
So, I called Microsoft, who said they could only *tell* me the name of a free non-web-based email client that could consolidate the messages from several email accounts and is Windows 7 and cable broadband compatible and compatible with my T400, for the "bargain price" of $59.95! I felt like I was talking to an organized crime syndicate, 'yeah, we'll give you the information...for a price.' They said since Mom bought it for me for Christmas from Lenovo, that Lenovo is allegedly responsible for any software/OS issues.
I called Lenovo back, and they said they are only responsible for the hardware, so between the two companies I apparently have NO technical support for my Windows 7 (in the event I have another problem besides no compatible email client), or any assistance in finding what non-virus-infected email clients are compatible with Windows 7 and cable broadband, are not web-based, and are capable of consolidating messages from more than one email address from different email providers, and store messages in an inbox that can be accessed offline, and would work on T400. Does *anyone* know of a free email client that meets these requirements?
Also, if I do have another OS problem, since neither MS, nor Lenovo, are allegedly responsible for the installed OS, does anyone know if there is a contracted 3rd company to deal with that, or some other way of supporting Windows 7? Because it was factory installed at Lenovo, I never received a Windows 7 backup disk or any MS or Windows literature; so if it gets corrupted or something, and neither MS nor Lenovo are responsible for OS or software issues, who would be responsible for fixing OS/software issues?
Lenovo said MS was, and the warranty information booklet from Lenovo only covers hardware, specifically exempting pre-installed software: yet MS swears it is Lenovo's responsibility, and I can pay MS techs $60/question to have them tell me again that it is Lenova's responsibility and that MS can't do anything. Someone PLEASE tell me that there is a legitimate 3rd party responsible for supporting my OS 7; that there is some legitimate way to get a backup disk of my OS 7; and that there is either a free, virus-free email client that meets my above reqirements, or that I can somehow downgrade to XP that has a built-in email client.

I'd rather not install 7, again, because i have to many apps installed. btw, i can go into safe mode, can you fix it from there?

when i did a clean install of windows seven you can see:
the system get stuck in the screen after the verifying dmi and look the dvds to boot and try to boot in the HD but you can see the system does not boot, after the dvd copy and expand the setup files and start the first screen to do the final installation.

I have tried pressing the ThinkVantage button, and all the f buttons, esc, delete, nothing works.I have also tried inserting my Windows disc into the disc drive but that does nothing either.
