View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell XPS Studio MT 435 with a two HDD RAID0 system. It has three partitions:
1) C: System,
2) D: Recovery
3) Unnnamed.
It shipped with Vista Home and I upgrade to Win 7 Home. HDD1 was causing errors...the RAID0 was dying. I was getting many BSODs.I bought Acronis True Image Home 2012.I was NOT able to clone the entire disk as an image because of the BSODs.I was able to backup (sector by sector) the C: and D: partitions. I did not backup the unnamed partition.I was also able to have Win 7 backup save off the C: partition.I then replaced to the two hard drives (WD 640 GB) with two new hard drives (Seagate Momentus XT 750 GB) and reestablished the RAID0 with these new drives.First I used the Win 7 recovery CD and its backup to restore the C: partition. The restore was successful but it wouldn't boot. There was no MBR. Windows didn't ask about nor put a MBR back on the system.Next I used Acronis recovery CD and its backup to restore the C: partition. It did ask about a MBR, which I said to do. The restore was successful and when complete, it booted up to the Win 7 login.I logged in and checked things out.Everything seemed fine, my stuff was back. Until I tried Windows Update. If failed saying that the service isn't running.I checked, the server was running so its a false error report.
I found Fix It for Windows Update and it did stuff but no good. Windows Update still fails.I then got a clue that it won't run unless Windows thinks the software is genuine. So I ran the MS validation site. It reported that I was missing files and to fix that I needed to install Windows from a genuine DVD. Which I have.I ran the installer (in custom mode, it wouldn't install in express mode as the DVD was older version). The installation almost completed and I get a dialog box saying the Win 7 was not compatible with my hardware.I don't know what to try next. Of course I have compatable hardware, it was running on the old drives and running on the new drives with a broken Windows Update.I feel that I'm so close to being fully back up and I don't want to give in and start from scratch by install Windows on a wiped disk and then loading all the programs and data file one by one back onto the system.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy Windows 7 System Restore doesn't restore. It allows me to set them and tells me they've been done. But on the couple of occasions when I've wanted to use one, no joy. Yes I know I could possibly do it in 'Safe Mode' but that isn't an answer as to why I can't do it in regular mode?
View 2 Replies View RelatedWent into the Windows 7 control panel to make a 'system repair disk' (boot disk), just in case I ever needed it. Making the disk went OK, with Windows 7 telling me it had successfully finished, and to label the CD.
I then put the boot CD into my DVD drive to make sure it worked OK. Computer boots from the CD and Windows 7 says it has started loading files. Then the pretty blue background screen started (just like the one in the F8 repair console), and then there was a long pause and then I get the error code shown on the photo below. Clicking OK reboots the computer, and no repair options ever load.
I made two separate boot disks to rule out a bad CD, but still get the same error #
This is a brand new Dell computer, both DVD drives work fine, and burn CDs without problems.
I just tried sfc/scannow and I got the following message: There is a system repair pending which requires a reboot to complete. Restart windows and try sfc again.I'm thinking this repair pending is from the chldsk/r I completed previously. This is great, except when I reboot, the repair does not startup and the system just goes back to the Windows Error Recovery screen I had earlier. How do I get the repair to complete?

Had a problem with the network connection and tried to run System Restore first thing. It said it didn't complete successfully. Tried a different restore point. Still didn't complete successfully. Isn't that a bad thing? What could have made a new computer lose its System Restore capability? Is there something I can do about it? Have since resolved the network problem so that isn't an issue anymore. However, I'd like to know System Restore is there for me in case something bad happens.

Went into safe mode and removed the game and system is working fine. I ran MSE and MBAM with nothing but tracking cookies found. Then I created a restore point but noticed that there were no others. So I rebooted and created another one. System still saying there are no restore points. So I ran CMD as admin and ran VSSADMIN LIST SHADOWS which came back "no items found that safisty the query". I can create restore points but they are not being saved by the system. I increased the size of the 30 to 65GB, rebooted and created another restore point, which also did not get saved. I've read about dual boot problems with XP, but that is not the case as I UPGRADED to Windows 7 OVER XP...over the 3 drives. Does RAID prevent the system from saving restore points? If that's the case why is it letting me create them in the first place?

View 7 Replies View Relatedi installed windows 7, and everything seemed to work fine.
installed a bunch of programs, they also all seem to work.
but then i decided to do some backups; i created the rescue cd using windows, and then cloned the hard drive also using windows 7.
but then i noticed the backup program, and decided to click on "set up backup"; nothing happens.
if i try the same from a disk drive/properties (ie click on backup there) nothing happens either.
any ideas? maybe something i installed broke this, but it seems like a pretty basic function to break like this.
Recently, I did a clean install of Windows 7 Home Premium on my MSI GE600. At first, the touchpad behaved the way it should. But now, it is not even detected. I rebooted the laptop and it worked again. Most of the time it doesnt work though.

Basically, I bought a new USB stick and plugged it in. My computer would search for windows updates, but it would never find the ones required, and the USB wouldn't install. When I unplug the USB and plug it back in again, the computer doesn't even recognize it, and nothing happens. Currently, my computer is not updated, so that's one thing I won't try. I've installed windows 7 updates numerous times in the past, and every time I did, my computer would have problems starting up (i.e. my desktop would be a black screen when it starts and I can't do anything, or the place where I enter my password to log in doesn't load at all).

The only feedback I've received from things not working is Civilization V says "Requires Service Pack 2 or greater" As far as I know DirectX doesn't update in the Service pack format, and that Windows 7 SP2 doesn't exist yet, and shouldn't be needed for a game of early 2010 as-is. I have an ASUS U56E, with the on-board i5 graphics(I thought it might be that, but my brother's i3 runs said DirectX fine, so maybe mine is damaged) and I, quite frankly, do not want to run it back into Best Buy and hope that it's covered by warranty.

For example, in the OO Writer, the key sequence Ctrl-Home should move the cursor to the top of the doc. This works fine on my older HP XP Pro laptop, but my netbook ignores or doesn't understand it. I have removed OO and reinstalled it, but the problem still occurs. So, I guess I need to figure out if this is a Windows or Open Office issue.
