I have tried to restore my system to an earlier state to remedy the faulty uninstallation of a speech recognition programme, which tries to reinstall every time I start the computer. System restore restarts the computer but then tells me the restore process failed, once i am back to my desktop. OS is Windows 7 Home Premium and computer is an Acer Aspire laptop. System partition is encrypted using Truecrpyt.

Had a problem with the network connection and tried to run System Restore first thing. It said it didn't complete successfully. Tried a different restore point. Still didn't complete successfully. Isn't that a bad thing? What could have made a new computer lose its System Restore capability? Is there something I can do about it? Have since resolved the network problem so that isn't an issue anymore. However, I'd like to know System Restore is there for me in case something bad happens.

All desktop icons when clicked go to "notepad" and "notepad" showing for everything to the left except for internet explorer. I have tried restore 6 times but it just comes back with. Bottom right hand icons still normal...files can be accessed through start docs. pics, etc. I have backed up to a remote drive all files for safety but just cannot get system or files to restore.System restore did not complete successfully. The memory could not be read.) I ran my norton 360 scan and malwarebytes scan and no virus/spyware detected. Also I ran memtest to see if my rams were bad and everything seems find. View 2 Replies View RelatedAs my Sony vaio VGN was rather cluttered, I decided to do a total system restore to factory settings. So I hit f10 at startup and went to the vaio recovery console, and chose the recover complete system option.
It goes fine up until 95%, and then just goes no further. The CPU and battery light also turn off completely at this point, but the screen still stays on and I can move the mouse and such like.
There are no error messages or anything like that. I've tried it 3 times now, and the same thing happens.
each time try do schedule back up it fails to complete. Repeatedly requires first dvd subsequent attempts and says unable to write to dvd. driving me bonkers.

View 9 Replies View RelatedWhile recently using Nero 10's suite of programs I encountered a screen indicating several programs had newer versions and that I should update before continuing. I then updated the programs. The update process required a system reboot to complete the update, since part of the update process could not be completed while the system was running. After clicking on the "Reboot Now Button" the system went through a normal shutdown and start up process. However, after displaying the Windows 7 screen the system hung and I never saw the Windows 7 Logon screen.At this point I powered down and restarted the computer.
The computer displayed the "Windows did not shutdown properly last time" screen during the loading process. I then selected to finish booting in SAFE Mode. The computer then booted successfully and I was able to exercise the system. I then attempted to restart the computer from SAFE MODE but again encountered the "hanging" condition. I again attempted to reboot and once again received the "Windows did not shutdown properly last time" screen. Since booting into SAFE MODE hadn't solved the problem, I attempted to boot into SAFE MODE with networking.This caused the system to again "hang". In summary, I am able to boot into all but the SAFE MODE with networking capability, which reproduces the problem.Since SAFE MODE failed to resolve the issue, I attempted to boot from a Windows 7 Installation DVD. After successfully loading from I selected the "Repair your Computer" option, which then located the Windows 7 system and attempted to repair the error.
After completing the system repair, I again attempted to restart the system, thinking the repair had been successful. However, the computer again "hung" without displaying the Windows Logon screen.I then used an external USB drive containing Fedora 15 to successfully boot the computer. This has allowed me to "poke" around on the hard drive containing the Windows 7 system. I've examined the failing drives partition tables to see if during the updating process the drive had become corrupted. Upon examination of the drive's partition table, I could not find any apparent errors. The following screen shot shows the partition contents of the Windows 7 drive:[CODE]

Right now, my laptop started rebooting all at a sudden and quite commonly seeing blue screens. Automatically/schedule a rollback to that morning restore point every night.This should allow users to mess up the workstation during the day, and restore a working rollback point at night when users are not using a workstation.Updates are scheduled at nighttime, so before that happens, it should rollback to a good restore point, apply updates, then create a working "new" restore point with the updates in the morning....etc.

for backups of my main OS (in my signature) I have acronis TIH create a single image full backup daily to a different drive. Weekly a single image backup is created and saved on a different drive. Because my SSDs are in RAID0, every few weeks I make a system image backup using Acronis (outside of the daily and weekly backups), clean/all the SSDs to put everything back to 0 on the drives, then restore my installation. It makes a significant performance increase for sure.This last go around a week ago, I did the usual but could not restore no matter what I did. I bought the new version of acronis, the plus pack, unplugged all the other drives, etc etc etc that acronis told me to do to try to fix the error I was getting restoring any backups.Finally what I did was take an old backup, transfer it over the network to a different computer, bought acronis TIH again (ridiculous) and was able to clone it to a drive, plug the drive back into my main rig, boot acronis from a USB drive and clone that installation to the SSD raid setup. The only problem was, the backup I was able to use was from 7-10. I'm now trying to convert the images which would not restore to VHD to boot from the bootmgr screen of the currently restored (7-10) installation.Every tutorial I see only deals with creating a new .vhd to install windows to and boot.

My wife has given me permission to use her laptop to experiment with Ubuntu and Ubuntu variations on the condition that when she gets it back it will exactly as she left it. So... is there a way to back up the entire OS with installed programs, settings, personal files, etc? I know about dualbooting but in case something goes awry it would be handy to just be able to pop in a disc(s) and replace everything where it was.

Why does it take so long for MSE to complete a full scan of my system? Even the other spyware/malware apps doing a full scan takes at best up to an hour. With MSE running a full scan can take upwards of 5 plus hours and sometimes even longer.......this scan that is now running started at 10:43am and time elapsed since start is 07:58:05 and counting and is only half way through. This is the beta version I'm running and the version before still took a long time but not like this version.

I created a backup of my old registry before cleaning and I can access it using the command prompt that you can access in the system restore options. View 7 Replies View RelatedOK, so a couple of days ago, my HP desktop crashed and then went through the whole System Recovery loop(I couldn't login to Safe mode, wouldn't let me past the System Recovery Screen). Well I backed up the entire C drive using Backup your files in the menu. Then it shows you all the file types it will back up; i.e photos, videos, e-mails and bookmarks. So I did that to an external hard drive and it comes out to 143GB.Now comes my problem. I've been able to copy everything from the external hard drive using RecoveryMgr.exe which opens the WIM files and saves them to my C: hard drive under System Recovery Files. However it does not seem to work when it comes to putting in my old Thunderbird e-mails, contacts and such or in Firefox to restore my bookmarks, saved passwords.

I rebooted into windows and then back to the disc several times and got the error each time. My computer does not have a pending.xml file. Well I clicked save user data to C: drive, for me a first time user of a netbook...didn't know that if I clicked that and was using a different windows 7 edition from the OEM. That a different windows 7 edition data couldn't be saved. Now, whenever I boot up my netbook, windows will try to install on my computer but gives error:

I have been have some problems with my HP dv 8500 laptop. It has vista on it. I could not get any windows updates. So I backed up my files to a flashdrive and did a system recovery. I have files on the flash drive but cannot transfer them back to the laptop. I would love it if someone could guide me through the process.

View 2 Replies View RelatedSystem restore failed to extract the file. from the restore point. There was a disk failure during the restore. This might be caused by bad sectors on the disk. I get the same message, but with a different file name, with every restore point I try, and I have now tried all seven available restore points, going back to 30 Dec 2011. The computer was working perfectly until 3 days ago when it blue screened, and has not started properly since. It is a Corei5 with 4 GB RAM and is only 12 months old. I just dont believe the drive has that many bad sectors.
