I am using Win 7 for a while (came pre-installed with laptop). Now it's time to have Win 7 (x64) installed on personal desktop as well.I just a have a specific question related to BIOS. Hope to avoid unnecessary delays/problems this way.

1 SATA HDD Primary OS Disk
2x SATA HDD Backup Disks in RAID 1
TO:
1 SATA SSD Primary OS Disk
1 SATA HDD Backup Disk
[No RAID]
Everything worked great, no problem. So, since I don't have a RAID array anymore, I decided that I could change my BIOS setting to AHCI instead of RAID. I have a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R v1.0 mobo.
These are my steps:Settings > Integrated Peripherals > "SATA RAID/AHCI Mode" = RAID
--> Changed this setting to AHCI Reboot Windows Start screen shows up, but as the color orbs are spinning into focus, BSOD and immediate restart Repeated reboot several times, same outcome
Next Step:Launch BIOS settings Integrated Peripherals > "Onboard SATA/IDE Ctrl Mode" = RAID
--> Changed this setting to AHCI Reboot Windows Start screen shows up, but as the color orbs are spinning into focus, BSOD and immediate restart Repeated reboot several times, same outcome
Switch both settings back to RAID, reboot, and Windows starts up just fine, no issues.
What am I missing? Why can't I set it to AHCI mode without BSODs?
I have a HP Touchsmart 300-1060a (Home Premium Windows 7 64 BIT) which I bought few years back. Now for the last 6 months or so I started getting issues with my machine was not displaying anything at all after turning it on. So I had to hard reset my power from the machine and then was able to see it started displaying again.At first I suspected graphic card (NVIDIA GEFORCE) but then I did my diagnostic test and nothing was found.One day, I started re-imaging my machine as a fresh and then after this it never came back ONLINE. I read all HP forums & even HP Online support was unable to help me to find the cause.Because when I turn on my machine I can see the power light was on and could hear big fan noise but mo HDD activity at all.So at this stage, I suspected either motherboard or BIOS but wasn't 100% sure what could be the real cause because I was sure it was not due to graphic card.So first I re-setted by my BIOS to see if it helps but it didn't came up at all. So then I took my machine to a Computer repair shop (a friend of mine) and we detected it could be due to the regulator which supplies power to the CPU and motherboard.So we replaced that part and now my HP Touchsmart is running fin since then.But I have lost my HP Startup logo with options such as below: [code]

For eg.. normal speakers device for my personal account and then have my multichannel device (profire 2626) set as default for my other user account 4 studio work.
Atm, if i change it on one account it changes on the other account which is annoying and i'd just like to set default device for each account so i don't have to do this.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI recently got a new hard drive that is now windows 7, before I had windows XP. I only just transferred the usb cable and now every time i tried to back up or save a file to the Maxtor one touch 4 plus, it gave a warning window that said it couldn't perform the function because the disk was damaged or corrupted. I have also checked the drive for any errors by scanning it for any problems but nothing has come up. I just now uninstalled the driver in case I could reinstall it but that is not working because its not recognizing that it was uninstalled. Please help me find another software for this. I also looked online for the software and the Seagate company offers this software for free however, it is only compatible with the Mac OS X systems and not for any windows systems.

So if I select mulyiple folders, they all have their modified date changed to the same time. Is there a known way to stop this from happening? It's a little annoying right now.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI've got an Acer Model As5742 Laptop with an i5 480M processor and 8 GB of good Ram. I'm running Win 7 Pro 64 Bit. It's only about 5 months old and this started about a month ago. I have no other problems. IE: Blue Screens or Lockups or anything, just the Bios clock changes to a random date and time after every restart. I replaced the Bios battery twice and it only effects the chore of having to reset the time in Windows every time I boot.
I'm going to send it to Acer to be repaired within a week or two, but maybe it's not a bad timing mechanism in the motherboard and one of you people have a correct solution to it. Which will save me the trouble of sending it in for a motherboard replacement.
I do have all the drivers and bios updates installed. Oh yes I've ran about 15 different virus Etc. Malware scans with several different products and they all come back clean. I ran System File Checker SFC /scannow from the command prompt several times that also comes back OK.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI just ordered an SSD and will be migrating my Windows 7 64 install over to it. Most people seem to say I should do a fresh install instead of cloning the old drive. Currently my OS is on a partition on my HDD, while the rest of my files reside on a different partition on the same drive.
Where this gets slightly trickier is that my version of Windows 7 is an upgrade edition. From what I remember reading before my initial install, the installer is much happier and the process is much smoother if it can detect an existing Windows installation somewhere on the system. But on the other hand, everyone seems to advise disconnecting all drives but the SSD when installing (to avoid having the boot loader install on the wrong drive?).

It sounds like in the end he had to do the reinstall workaround (install Windows 7 again over the invalidated installation).

I have run into this odd issue where I installed windows in ide mode on my HDD but now windows wont show my SSD(which i got for games) when I right click the C drive it shows the SSD as being part of the HDD. Even in my Bios it shows my main drive as my OCZ SSD. Anyways would switching to raid mode and then doing a windows repair fix anything? Or should i just switch it to raid mode unhook the SSD and then re install windows on my HDD(Which I have no problem doing but would like to avoid if possible)

I have gotten all the drivers for my monitor and video card as well. My current resolution is 1680x1050 and is the native resolution for my monitor. View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to install a new hard drive and retire my current one to backup and data storage purposes.
The problem is that I've installed Windows 7 on a hard drive with 2 partitions, an old XP partition (D:) and the new W7 partition (C:). At the moment the disk management screen looks like this:
What I am trying to do is delete the D: partition, and then copy/resize the C: partition including Windows 7 installation to my new hard drive (F:)
If I ignore the new hard drive and just try to migrate to a single partition, I can never get it to boot. I tried using Partition Wizard to set the C: as a primary, active partition, copied over the bootmgr and boot directory, then used bootrec /fixmbr and bootrec /fixboot to try to make Windows 7 bootable from just the C:, but it didn't work. All I got was "disk read error" whilst the PC was trying to boot off the C: (this is with all other drives disconnected...).
I could try to migrate to a single bootable partition from a 'dual boot' configuration?? I tried this video's advice and did everything as instructed but got the disk read error problem.
