View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently had some problems with my computer and I ended up restoring the computer to its original factory settings. I chose the option of restoring it while keeping user files and what not. Anyways everything was going well up to this point. The screen has been stuck on "Setup is starting up services" (with that loading bar underneath the text) all night.
I'm pretty sure I did everything right. I unplugged everything, except the keyboard, monitor, and the mouse. I did not insert the Windows 7 recovery disc, but I was under the impression that I didn't need them for what I was doing. Do I just manually shut the computer down? Is there something on the keyboard that should abort the process? My computer is a Gateway and I'm using Windows 7.
I am not trying to install Windows 7, it came on my computer and has been working fine for over a year now. I restarted my computer a few days ago (after it had been working just fine) and now it will not load past the "Setup is Starting Services" screen. I keep getting the error message "Install Windos: The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install Windows, click 'OK' to restart the computer, then restart the installation." I cannot figure out why it is mentioning anything about installing windows when it came on the computer and has been working until now. I have hit "ok" and it does nothing but come back to the same stuck point. I do not have a disk for this computer as it never came with one. It is a Toshiba Satellite L455D.
View 4 Replies View RelatedSo one evening my laptop randomly restarted itself and upon logging back in I found that I could not run almost any of my programs (.exe files). I tried checking for anything unusual in the registry but found nothing. In task manager when I clicked a program or attempted to run it in various ways I would see it pop up for a second before it got killed.
Finding no way of fixing it online I decided I would attempt the factory restore option that comes with the laptop in the system recovery that places all your documents in a C:Backup file. But nearing the end of this an error came up saying 'setup is starting services', which says to restart the computer to continue. But I can no longer get it past this screen. I've tried rebooting it in safe mode as well.
My computer is stuck on the mess that says : Setup is starting servies. wont do anything.I can shut it down but wen i turn it back on its on the screen again.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI originally had a Windows XP computer which I upgraded to Windows 7. My computer crashed yesterday and I got stuck with a reboot error where it would load through the Windows XP screen but get stuck on "Setup is restarting" blue screen and it just sits there. So I tried to just put Windows XP on the computer since I couldn't get anything to work. No Safe Mode, no Debugging nothing would work. Well I partially installed Windows XP on my D: drive and I am able to boot from the disk but C: drive says "System Reserved" and running from my D drive, all i have is a Recycling bin. I tried to setup a connection to the internet but it isn't recognizing anything ( since there is no connection wizard ). Point is I'm able to get into Windows, only it seems I have the files but nothing works.

At this point is stops at "setup is starting services" for the past 3 hours.
My Acer Aspire One started acting funny a few months ago (Replacing wallpaper with a black screen, shutting down randomly). One day, it shut down and a window popped up for a scan of sort. After a long and frustrating process, I decided to restore the OS. Now, whenever I boot it up, it gets stuck on a black screen that reads "Setup is Starting Services", after which a window ops up saying "Windows could not complete the installation. To install Windows on this computer, restart the installation."

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to sort out issues with my Windows 7 machine and want to disable/set to manual services that I know are not needed, but every time I have done this in the past (a while ago now) I invariably run into an issue where I've inadvertently disabled a service that was needed by something, and I end up scratching my head (as all of my hair falls out around this point) and enabling everything just to sort it..
Is there any utility that anyone is aware of that lets you toggle service status, with the option to reset to default or reset to last status, while showing a list of services that I've changed?
I can't seem to word it properly for a search engine to find relevant results, and find usually specific services and not something I'm hoping exists.
I wish the Services.msc mmc had a checkbox or some sort of flag to show altered services so you could sort them by that, which would help a lot, but it doesn't.
I bought a usb wifi adapter for my desktop and it would not work. Saying the service for it was not running. Typing services.msc would only give me an error "One or more ActiveX controls could not be displayed because either: 1) settings prohibit ActiveX 2) blocked publisher. Event Viewer also stopped running, showing the error "Event Log service is unavailable. Verify that the service is running.
View 3 Replies View RelatedToday, my computer just finished installing updates, and was waiting for me at the user selection/log in screen when I checked on it. I powered it off by holding the power button down to change some BIOS settings. (In the end, I did not save any changes to the BIOS, so I can rule that out) After rebooting and logging in, MSE and avast both tell me that their respective services have been stopped, and WiFi is not working either (its stuck as connected, but has the small yellow triangle in the icon, it says its identifying, but its been stuck like that). Other services, such as Dropbox and RocketDock have also been stopped on my computer.I then rebooted into Safe Mode with Networking. WiFi is still not working, and now, audio service is also stopped. From here, I uninstalled all of the updates that had been installed today. I then rebooted normally. Finally, RocketDock and Audio Service are running again, avast!, MSE, Dropbox, and WiFi are not still. I'm using Malwarebytes' and avast! to scan for crap that might be doing stuff (Malwarebytes' has already picked up four positives, both scans are still underway).

View 2 Replies View RelatedI use my desktop as a recording studio PC some of the time, and those DAW programs need a LOT of resources. That's why most of them recommend you install them on a seperate partition, and stop most of Windows' services.I don't want to install it on a different partition, What I'm trying to do is install it on a different user, but then just have that specific user NOT run a few services and startup programs.I could find a way to disable startup programs for a specific user, but I couldn't find a way to disable SERVICES for only one specific user. Services like "Task Scheduler", "Indexer", iTunes, AVG, TeamViewer, and many more that I do NOT want running on my studio user - but I DO want running on my every day user.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just put together my first build and happy with the performance until yesterday. Normally in runs around 5% CPU with a temp around 30. Yesterday it jumped and remains at 30% CPU with a temp at 40 C. Used a program called Process Explorer to find out that the svchost.exe was using up 26%. It was broken up by the following services:
FDResPub
FontCache
SSDPSRV
upnphost
It seemed like all the services were safe and required for windows run. So I'm wondering why they were consuming all this CPU usage last week and the week before, and now the sudden change. What can I do to limit this?
Cant get DVD (vob-files) to play under wmc.

I was having an issue with my print spooler resetting itself to the stopped setting and manual after each reboot or shutdown. I apparently fixed that one (however, not entirely sure how I did it). But now all of a sudden, I have another service doing the same thing. My Acronis Backup Scheduler service is resetting itself to Manual from a setting of Automatic and started after each shutdown and restart. It never had an issue until yesterday. No updates to that product was done in the last few weeks. It is the most current updated software for the product.
Is there anyone that knows why and how these settings can begin doing this?
Me and my girlfriend have a laptop we share, both accounts are Admin accounts how do I start services under her account and not global (both)I want Avira Anti-Virus to start under her credentials and not mine, now initially I searched online and found how to edit the service logon Tab so it started for her - which worked initially but meant I couldnt call on (start) the service without changing it back to global - after doing just that and changing back to her account it no longer worked - to get the program to work meant dropping the main tray app into startup folder for her and doing the afore mentioned tweak on service logon tab for two services related to the app, but that no longer works for some reason the services dont start - also i would like to be able to call on and start the service myself should I wish too (when I wish to use Avira Guard) - i even tried dropping shortcut to the exe files (that are the services) into her startup folder but this does not work...

View 1 Replies View RelatedNot sure if this is the correct place for this but...this morning I noticed an exclamation in my taskbar that services were not running. I looked for services.msc in the search in the start button, but nothing came up. I also typed in MSConfig in the search in the start button search, and again, nothing came up. I also cannot find anything that resembles "administrative tools" anywhere, The exclamation point has since disappeared and in the taskmanager, it appears to be working, but...why am I not seeing these items in my start button? Exactly what does services.msc do? I'm running the 64-bit Windows 7.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have had this strange problem for a few weeks now and so far I can't figure out a solution or why it happens.
When closing an application, the application's service (in the Windows Task Manager) doesn't end with the closing of the application like it should. This is happening with 95% of my applications.
I'm resetting (from disabled) in msconfig. I had a glitch after installing sp1 that caused BSOD after login. After disabling startup and services i was able to login in normal (selective)startup. My question is whether the entire list of ms corp services need to be enabled or should i select a core set . I have been starting the ones I recognize and what not , but is there a windows 7 setup suggestion list or possible list of core services to enable.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI am helping a friend who has a slow running windows 7 (32bit), quad 4 PC. I did a lot of tweaks to the machine - mostly aesthetic - but now I can't get her computer to to access the internet and the system restore is FUBAR.Here is what I did, in order:
~First I created a new system restore point.
~Then I found that she had Mcafee, Avira and windows defender installed, so I uninstalled McAfee and windows defender and rebooted - no problems. (I read that having more than one anti-virus can cause a slow PC)
~I ran super super antispyware and it found only a few tracking cookies but that was it.
~I then turned off aero themes and aero peek and snap.
~ I set her power settings to high performance because she likes to have a bunch of programs and windows open at a the same time.
~ I then went in to services.msc and disabled active x (she uses chrome), bitlocker, encrypt file systems, IP helper, microsoft iSCCI Initiator service, parental controls, remote desktop and configuration, smart card, media player network services.
~ I then went into msconfig and disabled a bunch of startup programs (itunes, quickplayer and the like)
I rebooted and everything was fine -- I went online and checked and things were great and the system was noticably faster. I then re-booted and there was no internet access and the network connection icon was missing. I checked and in msconfig, under services, and almost all of the microsoft services were unchecked. I tried re-checking the network information and some others I found via google, but after reboot they were still "stopped" - even though they were set to "automatic". I went into services.msc and tried to manually start them but got messages like "error 1068"Do I need to right click "run as administrator" when I select system.msc to make these start or since I was able to access service.msc without first selecting run as admin, do I already have administrator privileges?
I had a virus on my computer which I have since cleaned (and double checked with several scans). The remaining problem on the computer was an inability to turn on my windows firewall (though the McAfee firewall was running). I followed the steps at My link through step 14 (though I forgot to make the system restore point at step 13). Then my FSS log began to look different. Here is the copy of my most recent FSS log.

I try resetting it to Automatic, hit the apply button and all is well. I restart the computer and it is back to Automatic-Delayed and Window's Update won't run..
