May 3, 2011I'm the only person using my computer (usually). I have the secret Administrator account turned on and password protected. And my day-to-day account is a Standard account. Do I really need to password protect my standard account? What are the reasons to?

Jan 30, 2011I just installed a new 64 gig SSD in my computer. I also have a 2T secondary hard drive.The SSD is not big enough to contain all the stuff that will eventually be in "My documents",i.e. under "users" so I need to move the users directory to my secondary hard drive but havewindows behave as it were in its original location.I did some research and found the following technique which seemed plausible (and several people said it worked for them)
1. Install windows normally.
2. After install, boot from installation disk.
3. Get into the command prompt by clicking "repair".
4. Use robocopy to copy c:users to d:users. The command line should be: robocopy c:users d:users /mir /xj /copyall
5. Verify all files copied successfully.
6. Delete c:users. Command line should be: rmdir /s /q c:users
7. Delete c:documents and settings. Command line should be: rmdir "c:documents and settings"
8. Create junction to new users directory. Command line should be: mklink /j c:users d:users
9. Create junction for the old "documents and settings". Command line should be: mkdir /j "c:documents and settings" d:users
10. Restart computer.
Note:When in recovery mode the disk drives end up with different drive letters than what the normally have.Consequently my SSD drive which is "C" became "E" and my hard drive which is "D" became "C". Confusing, but I adjusted the above commands to reflect this.All seemed to go well until I rebooted. The computer booted up fine, but when I entered my password to log in windows complained that it could not find my profile. Since I could not log in at all I was forced to re-install windows. Supposedly, this is doable and I NEED to do it asap as my SSD will not hold all the stuff that will eventually be in "users".
Show Processes From All Users, With No Other Users
May 4, 2011I am cleaning a laptop out and i created a brand new user name. I deleted the other 2 users using the control passwords2.
So the machine starts and i select the user. Process usage is very high and it says 50, but actual user shows about 9. I click show processes from all users and i find the culprit as well as 50 processes. I deleted the users so there shouldnt be that option.
Why is there more processes if this is the only user, why does it even have the option?

Feb 27, 2012System is HP desktop running W7-64 bit. Printer is HP Photosmart 7350, old but working perfectly until 2 days ago. Driver is Deskjet 5550 (closest one for this printer).
I've reinstalled the driver, plugged and unplugged the printer, and tried to print from different programs. As soon as the print button is selected the error condition shows in the Devices & Printers section. This happens whether the printer is turned on or not.
What can I do to get the printer running again?
Standard VGA Adapter
May 17, 2009I just installed Windows 7 RC1 32-bit OS onto my laptop. Without thinking i needed any drivers, i went to play World of Warcraft. It told me that it could not locate a display device and wouldn't work. I figured i needed to install my grpahics card drivers for my Nvidia 9 series card. When i went to install the drivers, an error message appeared saying that it could not locate drivers compatible with my device.
I went to dxdiag and under display it shows that i have a standard vga adapter and won't recognize my actual graphics card. I'm not sure if i'm missing drivers, i haven't installed anything else except for this attempt at installing the nvidia driver.
How To Get Back On To Standard DVD's
Mar 6, 2011I've archived many movies to Disc using the very excellent AnyDVD software - I've copied them as ISO's - complete copies of the originals whatever the size but obviously removed region coding B/S and CSS.If I want to play these again on a normal DVD player (not a Computer) which can play DVD RW / DVD RAM etc how can I get say a 6 GB iso dual layer or whatever the original iso format is on to one or more 4.7 GB standard DVD's so I can play the disc on the DVD player.I don't mind losing subtitles, different sound tracks etc as I've still got these on the original ISO copy on disc but I want to keep the HIGHEST POSSIBLE screen resolution -- preferably the original if possible.Eventually I'll be able to STREAM the archived ISO to the TV but It will be a while before I set up a decent multi-media server.Divx is no good -- it compresses the image too much for a decent high quality large size LCD TV.The DVD player also does a really good job of upscaling "normal" DVD's to 1080p - very little discernable difference between a DECENT upscaled normal DVD and a "Blu Ray" one --- and without the added complexity of having to go through hoops with Blu Ray protection -- so you can play a DISC YOU HAVE PAID FOR on YOUR OWN EQUIPMENT.Don't you just hate all this stuff stopping you from using the media wherever you want -- didn't work for music and its not going to work for video media too -- but that's aanother whole issue.

Standard VGA Graphics Adapter?
Nov 17, 2012Just done a clean install of windows 7 on my Sony VPN-SZ5VWN and it has installed all drivers apart from the display.It has a nVidia Go 7400 however when I try to install it it just states there is no nividia products. If I try to uninstall the VGA driver, it asks me to restart and then, before I can do anything, it reinstalls the standard VGA adapter driver. I do get a solution saying to download the driver however this does not work.The original drivers are for Vista and Sony provides no other supported OS for them.

Nov 13, 2009I just installed Windows 7 Professional 64x. Previously, I had 32-bit Vista Ultimate.
I have a Dell Precision M90, with 4 gigs of ram, a 2.00 GHz core duo processor, and a Nvidia Quadro FX 2500M video card.
In the device manager, my display adapter shows as Standard VGA Graphics Adapter. I'm decent with computers, so I've upgraded video card drivers before. However, for some reason it is not allowing me to upgrade this driver. I have tried with both a 2500M driver as well as a 7900GTX driver (which worked for me in Vista).
I have also tried uninstalling the driver first, but it won't let me install another one before restarting and when I restart it just reinstalls the Standard VGA Graphics adapter.

May 20, 2009i have been looking through my system info i noticed that my Standard VGA adapter (the pre installed one that comes wit Win 7) has no VRAM, plz help i cant play any games i need 64mb of VRAM. Aug 24, 2009Is there any way to force the Standard VGA Driver to display in 1280x1024 32bit? If I look at the modes available, then I find 1280x1024, but only in 16bit.
I have an old Nvidia GeForce2 MX/400, and after installing the XP drivers I was able to run at 1280x1024 in 32bit, but I was getting some crashes in nv4_mini.sys when trying to install DVDFab. "The Internet" tells me that this is due to the XP drivers, so I uninstalled them again and rolled back to the Standard VGA Driver and was able to install the software. But now I am limited to 16bit again.
So, is there any way to force this?

It's GFx card died a year or so ago, and I just bought a new one, a NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT DDR3 MXM II, from eBay.When my laptop worked, it had Vista installed. So naturally I upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate. Now windows 7 has been installed, all updates been installed. All but one. the nVidia driver.I can't seem to install it. I have searched the net for solutions. Found some, but couldn't go on.Fx. tried to add some lines in the drivers .inf files. Put a line with my hardwares ID, but my hardware lacked some digits. I'm stuck with standard VGA graphics adapter.

The error I receive is: "Operation could not be completed (error 0x00000705). Windows cannot locate a suitable printer driver.Contact your administrator for help locating and installing a suitable driver."
