Again got a problem. The other day when I installed "Blazing Angels" into my laptop with Win 7 an error massage comes as " Star Force Protection driver is not compatible without a patch ". I never had this problem before when I was using the same game in Win XP. From where can I get the patch and how do I fix this problem.
I am constantly getting a message that starforce driver is blocked and when I try to run my commission streamer software I receive this message ClientUIWPFOutlookNavApp1 how can I solve this.
I found a relatively old post about this issue but the post in question degenerated into other topics so I am starting my own.I made the supreme Mistake of Installing a game called "GT Legends" or "GTL".The game uses a lousy protection scheme called "Starforce" that allows you to run the game from the CD ROM.
The drivers for this program are not signed, but by the time you realize that is a bit too late. The net effect is that upon Rebooting Windows Pro 64Bit you get a message to "Reboot choosing a disk with an OS" (I am paraphrasing here, basically it's saying I am booting off a drive without the OS in it.
After numerous searches I found that pressing F8 and getting to the boot choice menu you have to choose "Disable Driver Signature Enforcement" and the machine will finally boot.I did more research and it appears that you have to uninstall these starforce drivers to roll back thing and Starforce provides a coupe of programs to help with that. Here is the problem:
1) When I press F8 instead of the boor choices I get a Asus screen telling me what keys to press to get where I want to go. One of the choices is F8 but it takes an enormous amount of time to have the screen appear and a most times it just reboots and shopws the same inane message that it can't boot.
2) The other option I found on my own was to press Ctrl M and choose the boot drive manually in the boot loader screen. That sometimes reboots windows properly (it seems that to get to the boot choices is a bit of a chore on my machine).
3) I followed the instructions posted in various forums to try and delete the Starforce drivers, but they are not where the posts all say they are.
4) I downloaded and installed the Starforce utilities to respectively (a) find and update and (b) Uninstall the starforce drivers. Both tell me I have no Starforce drivers installed. (which is what I found out by looking for them as well)
5) Yet, the drivers must be someplace because a) I did not uninstall them, and b) my machine was booting fine before this mess and what I am seeing is clearly the presence of an unsigned driver(s).
6) I tried performing a System Restore, but before I did I checked what files would have been affected. The starforce drivers are not there. In fact, no drivers are there at all except a couple that I know exactly what they do.
The computer is about a week old so I don't have a lot of experience with my MoBo yet. Please forgive me if I missed something obvious (specs in sig),I am wondering:
1) Does anyone have any experience with this?2) Can I ask Windows to find any unsigned drivers on my machine?3) Any other ideas? I can't mess around with the startup each time. I need to fix this.
BTW, no one is taking responsibility for this mess, not the game devs not the starforce folks.
i have 2 ddr3 2gb's in my laptop, i have patched it so it can run 4+gb of ram on 32x and can tell a massive difference, however if i was to put ubuntu on second drive will 4gb still take place?
I shut down my system after installing the latest set of Win7 patches about 3 hours ago and now it refuses to boot. Tried to restore previous points with no luck, they all give the same result as before, it simply gets to the 'loading windows' screen with no animation and just hangs there. In repair it passes all of the tests before giving the reason for not being able to boot as "due to Windows patch", I'm at somewhat of a loss here...
I have 2 unusual file folders at the root of my C: drive. The names of both are alphanumeric gibberish,like:af216ca03f1720edf1e7a15b650cbd63One of the items contained therein is identified as a "Windows Installer Patch. There are numerous subfolders labeled "1042" , "1043", et. seq. Both folders are locked and i can't access any of the content even with Administrator's priveleges. These certainly look like leftovers of some kind that should be discarded.
I installed the 32 bit windows ultimate by accident which limits me to the 4 GB ram, bearing in mind i have 8 GB. As i already had my preferences and programs installed, i did not have the time to do a fresh install. So i downloaded and ran a 'patch' which changes the kernel settings? Could someone please tell me if this would be safe, or would i be expecting memory dumps in the near future?
I have a spare pc with Windows 7 64bit professional (no SP1) on a ssd which I bought a year ago. Back then, it booted within 20sec or so. I noticed a slower boot time after the SP1 patch. So I assumed the patch slows the PC and so I went on with my life.
Now that I bought a new PC with a Windows 7 SP1 64bit professional DVD, I expected to have a slower boot time since SP1 was already added on the DVD. But to my surprise, it booted just as fast, around 17 sec on a fresh install. I rebooted and got the same 17 sec. Next, I updated the recommended patches. I did not install anything else that was optional, any MB drivers, GPU drivers, etc. Just plain recommended windows updates. Boot time went from 17 to 46 seconds. How can that be? If patches slow PCs, then the new DVD should have done so from the beginning.
trying to install my free Windows 7 Upgrade on a Toshiba laptop I bought about a month ago. I got all the way to the "install required components" part, and it installed all except the "Cyberlink PowerCinema for Toshiba Patch". Beside this, it says "failed", and I can't do anything or advance through the install. Anyone know where I go from here to get the update installed?
I am going to play games like maxpayne 3 and crysis 2 on my pc which is windows 7 32-bit. I dont have 64-bit, so only 3.5gb out of 4gb ram is usable. should i install the patch. will 512mb make any difference?
my config is : core i5 2500 asus gtx 560 and 4gig ram.
I cleaned my laptop screen with a damp cloth and later wiped it dry with another cloth. I left it for about four hours but when I put it on there is this bright white patch on the bottom right of the screen. How do I get it off? The pc is working normally.
Is there any problem if I remove the ' protection driver ' from my computer. Will that cause any harm to the computer? It's actually blocking me from opening a game which I had just installed. Should I get it removed or should I update the driver?
I just downloaded asterix at the olympics on a torrent site and can't get it to run without downloading tages protection driver. Is it okay to download tages driver or will I get in trouble for downloading a game and not paying for it?
I had information on an SD Card that was used to transfer information from a PC to a Mac. Now that I try to reuse it on my PC, it says that it is write protected.
I have a WLW essentials 4 gb USB which needs to be formatted - only I get a message telling me it's write-protected. How do I remove this? Bill McKenzie has chosen the best answer to his/her question.Click here to view the answer that was selected.
How does write protection work in Windows 7? Does it alter any of the protected files, or does it simply tell some part of the operating system to leave the files alone?
in order to restore my system . In fact when i open the system properties i realise that System Protection tab was missing. Launching the tab by its executable, SystemProtectionProperties.exe, did not launch the tab, either.
I tried to search in the registry for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwarePoliciesMicrosoftWindows NTSystemRestoreDisableSR
I didn't find the SystemRestore Folder. I only found the Windows File Protection folder and Terminal Services folder
I am unable to move files onto external devices. Windows gives me a message to the effect "the drive is write-protected. Remove write protection or try another device" I've seen a lot of advice directed at fixing USBs but I think my computer is the problem because more than one device is affected.(both external hard drive and USB stick).
I just recently had my hard drive fail. I've had it replaced under warranty but it seems this may have been this trigger. The replacement hard drive is of a lower speed as they had run out of stock so I'll be replacing it yet again in a few days when the stock arrives.
I'm running Windows7 Ultimate 64-bit. I went in to the control panel/System Protection to turn on Protection on the drive that contain my documents so I could use the "Restore Previous versions". When I attempted to do so I got an error stating "Could not apply settings for the following reason: THe Filename, directory name, or valume label syntax is incorrect"
I recently had a power outage while Windows 7 (x64) was loading. System booted up fine. I went to do a system restore, but could not. When I go to select a restore point is says, "System Protection is turned off". I never turned it off and it will not let me turn it on. The C: clearly shows protection is turned on, but when I select system restore it says it is turned off.
I think I read most of the posts here on this issue, but no go. What I have tried:Manually create restore point- Works fine. Repeated many times. . Turned System Protection Off and then back On- No difference Ran WMI.bet- No change Deleted all restore points- No change Ran VSS List Shadows- Got hits even though I had deleted all restore points Verified VSS is on- I have seen posts to say set to manual and set to auto. I have done both. No difference. SFC /SCANNOW- Found no integrity violations Tried to do a Repair Install- Cannot. I am running SP1. Comes back saying it cannot be done.
I have a 2GB EMTEC U3 Smart Drive USB Device (PEN DRIVE). It is write protected, I want to remove write protection. Please tell me how to do it. I have tried to look for it on the internet but nothing seems to be working I tried changing registry but that too didn't work. Can't make any changes to the drive. Can't format it cant copy or paste.
I get a router as an "added layer of protection". Currently I have a dell XPS i7 running norton 2012 that is directly connected via ethernet cable to a motorola SB5120 (using comcast high speed). My question is would adding a router actually add any protection to my PC? Comcast will provide me with a netgear WNR1000v2 wireless router, my friend looked that particular model up and said it has most of the features needed and should do the trick. Also, when I went down to comcast and looked at the router the person there showed me a feature on it that allowed the user to turn off/disable the wireless. If the wireless feature is turned off/disabled on the wireless router then no wireless signals are being transmitted correct?
i have a wifi connection without any protection. now these days i cannot work on it. it tells me that, there is not any access on internet. earlier i could work on it. but the line is always without any protection.
My school laptop seems to be bringing baddies with my school flash drive. I've installed MSE on my school laptop and I run Kaspersky at home. Kaspersky seems to be removing the threats but every time I plug my USB into my school laptop and plug it back into my PC, it brings back unwanted guests.
MSE has detected 5 threats and removed them although I'm not so sure because. well, I'm still getting threats! (School computer)
Anyways, to the point. What's a good security application that I can install onto my flash drive so that this doesn't happen again?
