I turned my speakers off using the control panel, I went to playback devices and clicked on the speakers before clicking a drop down menu and selecting disable. It has now dissappeared, how do i re-enable?

I am using a Windows 7 32 bit computer. My windows update has been disabled and when I try to check for updates I get the 'Windows update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer.' report. Restarting the computer does not work. I think that I am missing some important updates
Windows update does not appear in the Services menu.
I read that windows update is linked to windows defender, which I have found is also not running and will not turn back on. When I attempt to turn it on I get error code: 0x80070424, and it also does not appear in the Services menu.
I am using McAfee which I think could be interfering with Defender, I also ran a Security Check that I found through a previous thread, these were the results:

I upgraded to windows 7 over vista the other day and I just noticed a problem. I have the Intel Turbo Memory Readyboost and it used to work perfectly with Vista, but I just opened the window where you enable/disable it, and it said it was disabled, so i enabled it and it asked me to restart my computer so I did, and when I restarted I went back just to make sure it was enabled and it is still disabled. I tried it again and same thing happened... anyone know why or how to fix it?

View 9 Replies View Relatedfrom the digital audio device? every time i plug in my $20 speakers i got from target, the audio device changes from my soundmax driver (which comes thru the lappy speakers) to a digital audio device in my little speaker icon thingy and i don't know how to manually change it back except thru reinstalling the drivers and rebooting a bunch of times,when i go to properties it only shows the enabled device and i can't find the other output option. if i reinstall the soundmax drivers it switches back to laptop speakers but this is obviously a hassle.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen the screen shuts off due to time or the lid being closed, it doesn't seem to want to turn back on. I can put into standby and bring it back out and it works just fine. But, I'd rather not have to do that all the time.
It's a Dell Inspiron E1505 with a ATI Radeon X1400 video card if that helps at all.

View 4 Replies View Relatedive been looking all over google and all i found was that winlogin.exe is a randex/RBOT virus (i honestly dont know what that means) but i could not find any solutions on how to get rid of it. Ive deleted it from my startup programs but i still think its somewhere in my computer and i cannot find it. Windows Defender will not turn back on, it freezes when i try, but windows firewall is still working. can anyone give me a fix PLEASE? i really dont want to restore my computer to that long ago or reset it completely, unless its the ONLY choice.

I have updated my mobo's bios to the latest version through Asus' "AI Suite II" which makes things very simple. I want my PC to be able to go into sleep mode but I don't want to have to force shutdown every time it goes into sleep mode after a time span. For some reason if I wake my PC after its been in sleep mode for a short period everything turns back on just fine... I know there might be a solution through the configuration panel
View 5 Replies View RelatedI recently put together a new build and it's been working great, the only glaring problem I have is that when the computer goes into sleep mode, it won't turn back on. Specifically, in sleep mode it goes quiet, when I click mouse/press a key then the fans start up, sounds as if it's working, but the display remains completely black, and mouse laser doesn't turn on.
My system is:
- Intel i5-2500K overclocked to 4.2GHz (via motherboard overclocking utility)
- ASrock Z68 Extreme4 Motherboard
- Corsair Force 3 60gb ssd
- Asus GTX 570
- Corsair TX M600 power supply
- Corsair Carbide series 400r case (if it makes a difference?)

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell XPS M1330 laptop and have recently upgraded to windows 7 professional (32bit) from windows vista. Everything seems to be running smoothly except I can get no sound from the internal laptop speakers. When I plug in external speakers in via the jacks on the front, sound comes through fine, but as soon as I unplug them there is nothing. Headphones also work like this too. Under sounds in device manager, it simply says 'High Definition Audio Device', and I'm not sure if I should be downloading some other drivers?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a Creative SB X-Fi Xtreme PCI-Ex, and Logitech Z-5500 5.1 THX speakers. All speakers work; all software, drivers and codecs are up-to-date. Recently I noticed that in the Speaker Setup screen, the test button only results in sound from the left and right front speakers.
I checked because after a VLC update, mkv files no longer played correctly in the 5.1 mode. Music played, but the voices were muted (while no speakers are muted, and all are connected). I have to select "2 front, 2 rear" Audio Device in order to hear the speech as well.
I have the same problem when playing movies in PowerDVD, where I have to select the 2-speakers setting in order to hear all the sound.
Note:
- Previously the test button did sound all 5 speakers
- The test button on the Logitech remote still sounds all 5 speakers
I have Windows 7 Professional, 32 bit.
only my front left and sub and main speaker work and if i put the cords in a different hole then only one will work and i got all of the in the right colour coded hole i have tride everything WHAT DO I DO!

Everytime I open my computer, it is always installing devices. View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I go to my computer it has a 'BD-ROM Drive' but my DVD-ROM/CD-ROM drive does not appear. I tried putting a CD but nothing happens.
Under device manager I have a CD-ROM drive enabled but below that is 'PBDS DVD+-RW DS-8W1P ATA Device which when I click says this device is disabled (Code 22). I try to click 'enable device' but when I go through the troubleshooting wizard is says windows cannot enable the device.

Now, the program itself works, but only when UAC is disabled. I can run it as administrator, and approve the changes it makes to the computer, however it still won't work unless the UAC is disabled.Do any of you guys know what the problem is? When UAC is off, the program does not need administrator priviledges. When the UAC's on, when the program starts up it the UAC makes its appearance and asks if you'd like to allow this program to make changes, and i always click "yes." So I don't understand why, even though i allow it to make changes, it still can't do those changes.My friend, the one who showed me it, runs XP and has no problem with it. if you want the link for it, if you need it, i can get you it. It's pretty simple really, just the program and a .DLL file that goes with it.
View 6 Replies View Relatedyesterday i turned off computer and everything was working perfectly. today i turned it on and i cant login to my user account and theres only 1 user (me). my password has 2 @@'s and the ctrl and alt were disabled i think because i also tried using the onscreen keyboard and cant make the symbols either. my keyboard is portuguese and uses alt + ctrl+2 to make these symbols. I CANT LOGIN TO MY COMPUTER! (not this 1).

After disbling the UAC the coputer lost network connection. We noticed that the connection was completely missing form the Adapter Settings screen. We also noticed that most of the services are disabled and the ability to enable them is grayed out. We re enabled UAC but no help. This computer previously had the alureo-k root virus.It was working fine for 2 days until we triggered this.
