Today i did a system recovery and reformat my pc. I notice anytime i am watching videos or playing games the audio is surprisingly low all of a sudden. Before when my volume level was at 1 or 2 it plays really loud and clear now i have to turn it up all the way to 18- 26, I am using external speakers i dont know what the problem could be any ideas?
View 1 RepliesI have a PC with Windows 7 64 bit as the primary and only OS. Lately a strange audio problem has come up. The sound goes off suddenly while gaming. The only solution then is to restart the PC for the audio to return. Am having a discrete audio card (Asus Xonar Essence STX). I have tried all the driver tricks (updating, uninstall-ing & reinstall-ing) to no avail.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI think that Windows might be disabling my sound device during gaming because it thinks it is idle. I don't know if this is the exact reason but after much testing have come to this conclusion.
Anyway, the problem is that while playing some games (for example Borderlands, Civ 5) the sound will be fine but after a while playing the sound will cut off completely. It seems to occur when I am playing a game for more than an hour although I can't be very specific. If I exit the game and try to play an MP3 etc in WMP then the program just behaves like it's trying to do something in the background and won't actually play the file. There are no system sounds or any other sound at all.
This doesn't happen in all games, for example, when I play Audiosurf then the sound plays as normal no matter how long I play. This is why I think it may be a Windows issue thinking my sound card is idle and then turning it off because when I play Audiosurf, the game plays my MP3 files and so presumably Windows knows my sound card is in use but when I play any other game that just uses the game's own sound files/effects, then Windows isn't recognising this and after a certain period of time is then disabling my sound card.
Does anyone know of a solution for this or has come across something similar? I have an external sound card that is connected via USB (Line 6 Toneport UX2). Let me know if you require any more system specs, oh I'm using Win 7 HP 64bit btw.
I've had WMC up and running for about a year now, no problems. Tonight we decided to watch a movie that I have as an *.mkv file - we do this all the time, at least once a week if not more. I shut down WMC and played the movie in VLC Media player. When I went to start WMC again, the sound was gone. The sound works in the rest of the system. I can hear computer sounds, and VLC and other media players work fine. It's just WMC that has no sound.I checked all my devices and drivers, no errors. Though to be honest, if that was the problem I'd expect all sounds to be gone.I removed WMC from the system by using the "Remove Windows Features" in Control Panel, and then re-installed it. No difference.I did notice however that removing and re-installing WMC, I didn't have to re-setup all my channels, etc. The settings "stuck". (Oh, by the way, I did re-run the sound setup in WMC, no difference).I'm wondering if maybe my WMC settings are corrupted somehow? Is there some sort of config file perhaps? I have no backup plan here, this is my only way to watch TV. I guess I could wipe the drive and start from scratch, but I'd prefer not to.

Please can someone help me with this as it's driving me mad and when gaming online and chatting to my friend through Skype, the sound will suddenly just go off. While he can still hear me talking into the mic, I can't hear him or the game's sounds/music and he has to resort to typing me messages in-game.

Now it's not the microphone it's self, It works on my laptop, and I have plugged in 3 mics and they all render the same problem.Basically, whether the mic is plugged in or not Windows reports that the mic is picking up sound (Green bar is FULL all the time).This happens on stereo mix, mono mix, line in etc.My Audio however works fine. I have tried front and back jacks, no difference. Although windows reports picking up sound, no sound is being processed (As tested through Skype, Sound Recorder and FRAPS). Doesn't mater which program I us, windows DVD burner, just putting in a DVD and waiting for the burn window or using a 3 party software. Will not burn DVD's. I'm not getting any error code just window that states the mpeg 2 is missing. I have downloaded the windows codec 7 and k lite full with not luck. Any ideas for the next step?

When I plugged in my tablet, the computer notified me that my device was USB 2.0 and and could run faster if I plugged it into a USB 2.0 port. Trouble is, I had used this port many times in the past as a 2.0 port, no problem. I confirmed the slower rate by trying to transfer my podcasts over to the tablet like I normally do.The ports in question are the ones on my front panel. I plugged the tablet into one of the rear ports that are mounted directly on the MB and got 2.0 speed no problem. On a whim, I plugged my wireless mouse/keyboard receiver into one of the front ports. It worked, but would be intermittently choppy. I tried downloading the latest MB drivers from Gigabyte, and that didn't seem to help. I saw that there was a problem similar to this for some win7 users about a year ago that supposedly got fixed. I checked and the fix has already been applied.

Suddenly a couple of days ago the wireless stopped working and it can't see any connections. There used to be a few it could see, but now not even one! I know the router is ok because I can access it wirelessly with my iPhone. I also know the hardware is ok on the laptop because I swapped the hard drive with an old XP one and the wireless worked perfectly.

I THINK it happened after I tried to use the windows back up...which didn't complete itself anyway. The HDD reads a max capacity of 111GB with 39GB free. If I select all the folders (I have the hidden ones showing) the total size according to the windows properties window is 67.2 GB. The windows folder (not including program files) shows 37 gb when I select it.

I bought this on eBay from a person with 99% Positive feedback and with 2300 stars, so I'm sure it isn't pirated. Looked system idle process up and this is the explanation I got: When opening Windows Task Manager you may notice that the "System Idle Process" is high and be concerned about something using your system resources. When a computer or a processor within the computer is idle it will have a high System Idle process in the CPU column, often in the 50's to 90's. This is completely normal for a computer as it waits for something to do. But this has been going on forever I would guess, why is it slowing my system down now and it never did before? it's so slow Xmarks normal take 15 to 30 sec. to sync. I stopped it at 2 min. As I am typing this ...I type 5 to 10 letters and everything freezes for 5 sec. then it fills in and freezes, then 5 sec. later I can type some more.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a HP I purchased at a store just over a year ago.I am running Windows 7 64bit. [code] I have some games (Spore, Sid Meier's Railroads) that worked great on this machine after I got it. The machine more then meets the specs. I could play for as long as I want and have no issues. Now I open either game and after about 5-10 minutes it is like the machine is overwhelmed with process. My CPU usage and ram goes up to 100% and everything is slow. When I click on a button to get a menu it takes 3-5 seconds for the menu to come up and then another 3-5 seconds for the mouse to move to the menu so I can select an option. So far I have made sure all my drivers are current, I have cleaned the registry with 2 different cleaners, I have removed all unnecessary programs from starting, I have tracked down process I determined to be non-essential and made sure those don't run, I have tweaked Windows to use less recourse (I should not need to do this now), I have removed unneeded programs, I have defragged, I have cleaned unneeded files, I have run Microsoft malware scanner (forget the name, no problems found), I have run Kaspersky 2011 in a deep scan and a critical area scan (nothing found), I even got one of those Speed Up My PC programs (I know garbage program) because I am so frustrated but that didn't do anything. I don't want to F disk it because I have too much data I need to keep.

There have been no software or hardware changes (potentially a windows update was applied that I don't know about, shutdown one night, all OK and then couldn't boot up the next morning). I get the windows 7 logo, then a black screen with mouse cursor, but I can't move the cursor. There's no keyboard response either (I don't think this is the infamous black screen of death as this typically still responds to a CTRL+ALT+DEL?). Safe Mode is no different apart from seeing drivers load, it stops at CLASSPNP before pausing for a while and then the black screen.
Managed to run the startup recovery tool, although I only get this option sometimes when trying to boot. It scans but can't auto fix the problem but reports a corrupt registry (I don't believe this is the problem though).
I removed my boot drive (which is an OCZ SSD) and mounted as a secondary drive in another PC so I could browse files on that drive. So I managed to restore my registry files from the windows backup files (windowssystem32config
egback), then replaced my SSD in my PC, but still no boot (which is why I don't believe it's a reg problem). I swapped out the SSD to my other PC again, this time I ran a chkdsk on my SSD, it found some small problem, nothing major so I fixed it successfully and swaped back to my original PC again, but still no change, still not booting. I swapped it out again, this time I had a look at ntbtlog.txt, it shows lots of inf's not loading (CLASSPNP being the last one to load.
I have a Lacie 250GB firewire external HD (couple of years old) which I use as a backup device. It's only used (switched on) about once a month.Everything has been fine until yesterday. When I switch it on, the light comes on and it whirrs into action as usual, but, rather unusually, Windows 7 (32bit) starts looking for a driver and then says, "Device driver software was not successfully installed". The HD, unsurprisingly, doesn't show in "My Computer" but does show in "Device Manager".I have uninstalled and reinstalled the HD, but still no joy.I have a separate 64bit partition (used exclusively for music) on the PC which does recognise the HD, so all is not lost, and leads me to think that the HD or cable is not the problem.

I bought an Asus Laptop a year ago which came win the 7 Home and upgraded to Ultimate with no problems at all. 3 months ago I bought a Dell with 7 Home and upgraded it to Ultimate. Again no problems! About a week ago I started getting multiple error message on the Asus stating that my Windows 7 was NOT valid. Now today I am getting the same messages on the Dell.
