Software Restriction Policies Is Wrongly Applied To Administrator?
Jan 20, 2013
I have Windows 7 64-bit and have configured Software Restriction Policies so that "Disallowed" is the default security level. I also have Path Rules defined so that software in C:Program Files, C:Program Files (x86), and C:Windows can execute. I also want it to apply to only my limited user account, so it is configured for "All users except local administrators".But it is still affecting my admin account. When I'm logged in as my admin user and I try to run any executable file in the C:UsersadminDownloads directory, I get a popup saying "This program is blocked by group policy."why the Software Restrictions Policies are affecting my admin account even though it is set to "All users except local administrators"?

I have a program called vueminder calendar. It's been installed for about a year and has gone through several updates, but for some reason this update came up saying your computer has set administrator policies against installation. I am the administrator of my computer and I'm the only one who uses it. I'm not sure what could havechanged. I've tried turning off my Norton 360 antivirus, I've also scanned forviruses, and I've made sure that all of my computer updates are installed

When I try to install some software (.msi) I get the message - "The system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation" People have found fixes by changing local security policy settings or changing the UAC settings, but none of these work for Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.

Alright, this was my first time removing the current thermal paste and applying new one, the previous one was tough to remove because it was stone hard, although I didnt remove 100% of it i'd say I took out a good 70-80% of what was there. So when applying it, I hear some ppl say to put as much as the size of a bb just a small dot (this is for my laptop cpu and gpu) which I did, then evenly spread it around with the little spreader it came with. My cpu now gets hotter by 4-5c.

4 Reinstall and reuninsinstalling of Mediaportal and Nextpvr nothing!
5 Event Log does not show any event at the error msg!
6 Local Security Policy. I entered a new rule with the path to the Wmce ehshell.exe making explicit without restriction .... nothing!

For example I have a folder in my desktop with pictures, videos, documents, music, etc. I organized it by grouping by type, somewhere between large & extra large thumbnails, and a few other things. I want these settings applied to all other folders. I went to folder options and applied it to other folders. Nothing changed. My other folders, including my picture folder is still the same way it was. How do I apply to ALL folders? I know you can zoom in on thumbnails by hitting ctrl + mouse scroll wheel, but is there a way you can do it with a keyboard and not the mouse?

I have a second monitor plugged in to my laptop. The first monitor on my laptop is 1366x768, and the second monitor plugged in by VGA is 1400x900. The setting I choose is "Show desktop only on 2". When I go to close the lid on my laptop, monitor 1 disappears from the available monitors, but reappears when I open it again. What happens, is that it reverts back to "Extend these displays" but I still want it to only "Show desktop only on 2" by default.
I just upgraded to Windows 7 from Vista, and I didn't have this issue in Vista. For some reason, my first monitor is reactivating itself and my display settings are changing without me doing anything to them. I have to go back every time to change it to show only on monitor 2.

I'm trying to use the Parental Control feature on one Windows 7 machine in my home. This machine is used by two of my younger sons. Is there any way that I could use the Parental Control feature on each separate account in a sense that whenever the user logs in, the time restriction starts? As oppose to the time restriction being set at specific hours. And is there also a way that whenever the user logs out, if he still has time left, it will pause the time restriction and resume when he logs back in?

Accounts with parental controls on to enable time restrictions are beyond annoying because the require a password to install or download any update or program, and many programs require passwords to use.
How can I bypass this idiotic "feature" while still enabling time locks.

I installed Windows Tweaks V4.0 and now I can no longer change my settings in Windows 7. For example, After exiting Windows Tweaks, my notification icons had all disappeared. When I tried to re-enable them, Windows 7 said my network admin had disabled my ability to make changes to my PC via Group Policies. My PC is in my home, not on a Network and I AM the Admin, yet I am locked out. I have Windows 7 Home Premium so I do not have a 'Group Policy Manager' program. Also, I can not disable the 'Group Policy Client' Servicesa either. I restored back to before I installed Windows Tweak and Windows Tweaks is gone but the policies remain and I am unable to modify anything. Is there a way aroound this without re-installing Windows 7 from scratch?

I've tried loading media center but when I do I get the message "Windows cannot open this program because it has been prevented by a software restriction policy. For more information, contact your system administrator." The computer is my home PC, I am the only administrator... I'm assuming one of the programs my buddy put on my computer is stopping the program from running. He said the programs would make my computer run better. I had to manually turn on windows media center before from my control panel before. I also tried running the program as admin or even finding the ehshell.exe and running it from their.

I was clicking around in my C drive because I was trying to find a folder that was hidden. I right clicked, click properties, selected the "hidden" folder attribute to the administrator folder, and clicked apply to all folders, subfolders, etc. I realized this was not the right thing because it just hid all the folders inside, so I undid it.Afterwards, it kicked me off of skype and when I tried to log on again, it said my disk was full when it is obviously not and gave me the "disk i/o error"In addition, I clicked firefox and it gave me a dialog box that said "Could not initialize the browser security component, etc etc and gave me another warning about my disk being full. What did I do? Obviously my disk is not full but these two programs think it is full and is giving me error messages.

Why a CD disk already of around 40 MB some Word files is wrongly seen as a blnak disk to be formated and burnt? It was not so before. Almost the day before yesterday I had no such a problem, and it worked normally, letting me to see and open the files on it. Today, inserting it into the DVD drive, the Autoplay dialogue window instead of offering "Open folder to see files" just offers choosing a way to burn it! I'm on Windows 7 Ultimate x64.

A little background and info: I support a number of people who for one reason or another need to be able to do things a local admin can do like install programs and start services (or more accurately allow a program they're running to start a service). All users are in the local administrators group. The local admin account is enabled (and renamed) so that we as administrators have local access when the machine comes in for service. The machines are joined to a AD domain so that we can control a lot of the security via GPO. Everything worked fine in XP.
We are getting a few different "you do not have permission" errors. When the user tries to run OpenAFS (which starts a service) they get a "you do not have permission" error. There is no way around this error.
Also, when the users try to run Lotus Notes they get a "you do not have permission" error. When we go into compatibility mode and check the "run as administrator" (or just right click and "run as administrator) it works fine, but they have to click the elevated privileges. The program was installed while logged in as the user.
Again, all users are members of the local administrators group. When the local admin account logs in all these programs run fine. This behavior started in Vista and I chalked it up to "vista sucks". Windows 7 so far seems to be great, except that like in vista, members of the local administrators group are not really local administrators. How do I make them true local administrators?

I use an old XP app (JetToolbar - available at JetToolBar - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com) and do not want to change but I cant make it work on Windows 7. The application installs and starts up just fine but it is not possible to drag icons/programs/files to the toolbar - I just get the 'no entry' sign (Circle with line through)However, the application runs fine when logged on to the hidden Administrator account. If I set up the application in the hidden Admin account and then log on as a normal admin user and run it from that account, the icons I set up are just not visible. So what do I have to change in my normal user account (member of administrators) to make this drag and drop work?I have tried 'Run as administrator' but that made no difference. Ive read about dropping to 'Run as User' apps from 'Run as Admin' apps but that's not the problem (at least problem occurs when app is run as user or run as admin)
