Slow Installations And Booting

Mar 13, 2009

Have downloaded the latest build 7057 and burnt it successfully. When booting from the DVD, it takes a long time until the setup starts. After a couple of minutes I'm getting to the box where I'm going to choose language, Choosing language and continues.THEN it halts down. After 10 minutes looking at the window saying "Setup Is Starting" I'm able to accept the EULA.Then, I neet to create a partition on the HD. It takes hours to complete and I'm giving up.

Booting Windows 7 Really Slow

Jun 21, 2011

recently I had 4GBs of RAM, and will, but for now I have it in my WHS because the 2011 release requires 2GBs of RAM.But I'm very angry with the performance decrease. It's always been this way though. It always has this stupid performance decrease, and lowering my RAM triggered it and that angers me.My computer takes about 10 minutes before anything will start loading... I've down new installs, used different HDDs, different motherboards, etc. Why! Why does a computer with a Core 2 Quad and 4GBs of RAM (usually it has that) respond slowly. Is it because my RAM is only DDR2 667? Does Windows 7 not work well with DDR2 667? My CPU isn't the issue, task manager shows the PC basically doing nothing on boot-up. And then out of nowhere, Windows Live Messenger and Lync start, and IE9 opens when I clicked it 5 minutes prior to it opening.I really want this XPS 420 to behave better starting up...it has a Q6600 and it's a relatively new install of Windows 7.it's a hardware issue, not a software issue. Also the GPU is good too, ATI Radeon HD 5500 series. Well, new, not hardcore specs, but definitely Windows 7 compatible and DX11-capable. I don't know...

Very Slow Booting ,windows 7 Ultimate X64?

Jan 24, 2012

It is very strange why when windows is freshly installed and there are let's say 7 programs loading is faster than loading the same programs after 4-5 months using of the system.I have like 7 X programs loading :Kaspersky 12 IS Steam clientOutlook Express 2003teamviewerSkypeGoogle Desktopimbuzz ChatI clean my system with Windows 7 manager ,using Diskeeper latest for auto defragmenting ,uninstalling the programs properly with "your uninstaller latest" and i am sure i do everything properly ,so the question is why is that insanely slow booting ebery time ??? I tested to desable the programs from the startup and i still get slow boot .to say that is all fine after loads 5-7 minutes ... computer runs fast. But until it boots is nightmare!!!My computer is a notebook asus g73 game edit.I7 @1.6 ghz10 GB ram1 GB Ati 5870I have scanned my pc with combofix for viruses as well as with KIS 2012 ,non found!

Putting Two Windows Installations On 1 USB

Jul 20, 2011

I have recently purchased an HP laptop with no cd-drive and hence created the recovery media on a USB.Due to some problems with this recovery media process - I ended up doing a clean install on Win7 instead.

Problem:I have a bootable USB stick, I need som assistance in putting both a Win7 image and a winXP image on this, and control it with a boot manager of some sort?

I recently had to assist my girlfriends father with repairing his xp installation on his netbook, also with no optical drive. So I thought for future events it might be good to have both

No Operating System Installations Found?

Feb 8, 2012

Yesterday, my computer crashed. I tried to restart, but after the BIOS screen, it just goes black, and has a flashing '_' in the top left corner. So I put in the reinstallation CD to try to repair the computer. I do everything necessary to bring up the System Recovery tool, but in the box that lists the Operating System to repair, it doesn't list any. So I clicked on Load Drivers, as it instructs, to find the hard drive drivers, and I CAN SEE MY C DRIVE in the dialog box. I am able to browse it and everything (Windows, Program Files, My Documents, everything). So my computer recognizes the hard drive and everything, it just says that there is no OS installed. I can't run System Restore or anything. how to "find" the operating system? Could something have happened in the registry that I could go edit?

I have tried so many things through the command prompt, but nothing works.

Dual Boot Two Windows 7 Installations?

Sep 8, 2011

I'm looking for a security solution when it comes to stolen laptops. I would like a solution that involves both full system encryption for the main O/S, and a dummy O/S that is loaded with location tracking and spying software. The problem with doing this on one O/S is that full system encryption requires a password at boot, meaning the thief will be forced to wipe the HDD and the location tracking software will never get a chance to work. Likewise, I can disable the encryption and use a guest account on a single O/S, but that leaves my files vulnerable. I could also use a Truecrypt container for my secure files, but they are of fixed size, cumbersome to use, and can't protect all sensitive data without mucking up the main user account.

The best solution would be (ideally) as follows:One Windows 7 installation fully encrypted using Truecrypt. One Windows 7 installation setup as a dummy O/S. Grub Bootloader that can load either O/S (Grub supports unlocking Truecrypt). The two main problems that I have with this setup, is that this requires 5 partitions (2 for each Windows 7 install, 1 for grub), and I haven't figured out how to reduce this number. I can only have 4 primary partitions on a drive using MBR. Another problem I'm having, is that Windows 7 likes to mess around with the drive letter assignments, refuses to boot from anything but C: drive, and doesn't check UUIDs or anything else when selecting which partition to boot.I can try to do this with Windows XP as the dummy O/S, reducing the partition number to 4, and Windows XP will boot off any drive letter. Still, Windows has a problem with attacking other Windows installations, and causing general mayhem. Windows does not like to share the HDD with other Windows, go figure.

Quicktime And Flash Player Failed Installations?

Nov 7, 2011

A few months ago I've been having issues with attempting to install Flash Player and QuickTime. I'm currently using Firefox 7.0 and Internet Explorer 8 as a backup browser. In Firefox, the installation works, but whenever I restart the computer, it requires another installation. Whenever I attempt an IE installation, I get the "failed to register" message, citing problems with the ActiveX control. Prior to all this, I hadn't any problems with either browser's handling the Flash Player.I've tried several corrective methods online, but nothing seems to fix the problem.I've also had issues with QuickTime installs; install attempts have been met with the "Error 46: Could not load or find the QuickTime ActiveX control" message. The ActiveX control seems to be the culprit in both cases and I'm beginning to suspect it might be a registry problem, but I'm not sure

Windows Update Installations Continue To Fail?

Jan 26, 2012

I am running Windows 7 64bit. I have 15 updates that continue to fail. YES, I KNOW THE IMAGE SHOWS "1" - that's because I wanted to see if could actually perform one SMALL update. They're just a bunch of Security Updates for MS Office programs. DO NOT tell me to download these updates manually. THAT IS NOT A SOLUTION to a problem that will continue on forever. I clicked "Get help with this error" which brought me to the window's help as seen in the second half of the image. These errors have NOTHING to do with the problem I am having.

YES, I have disabled my antivirus program already and they still fail.

YES, I am logged in as the administrator and I have all the necessary privileges.

YES, I have used Windows' crappy troubleshooter.

YES, I used Window's crappy automatic "fixer" or whatever that junk is called.

About a week ago my computer was running EXTREMELY slowly and opening just about any program that was part of office was EXTREMELY laggy. I ran disk defrag, disk clean up, and I went through a bunch of services and start up programs that I didn't need and disabled them. This increased my computer's performance and MS Office no longer lags.

Seemingly Random Application Installations Hanging?

Jan 6, 2012

I have had a persistent and very hard to troubleshoot problem on my PC for the last couple of months. Occasionally when trying to install applications, the installer will not progress beyond 0% or takes far too long to do so. When this happens if I close the installer and retry I get an error along the lines of "you already have this installation open". If I find that process in task manager and close it I can try again, but the same problem will occur. This does not happen with every program, my guess is it happens to perhaps 10% of programs. There seems to be no link between the installations that it hangs on. I do not have a list of applications that the error occurs on currently although I can see how that would be useful. It does not matter if I am installing to my SSD or HDD, the error has occured on both.

Ultimate Version Of Windows 7 Include Both Installations X86 And X64?

does the Ultimate version of Win7 include both installations x86 and x64?Second question, I usually format my computer pretty often, and I want to save some dough and just get the Upgrade version of Win7 Ultimate. I can use the upgrade over and over again right? Like, if I format my hard drive a bunch of times, as long as that copy of Win7 isn't being used by another machine, I can continue to install it and activate it right? Also, is there any difference between an actual retail copy, and the upgrade?

3 Corrupted Windows 7 Installations / Windows Refuses To Repair / Restore Itself

Feb 22, 2012

I have 3 corrupt installations of the same OS (Windows 7 U. 64 bit) in the same hard drive. I can't install any OS(es), and my original (working installation) no longer works. These corrupt installations are corrupt because windows installed incorrectly twice they left old windows instead of creating a windows.old file. When I try to start up any of these three installations, I get the same error: "The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install Windows, click "OK" to restart the computer, and then restart the installation."This also happens upon completion of reinstalling windows.I have tried to wipe the drive:most programs I see need windows to operate...I've tried a few programs that can be booted, DBAN boots, but I get the same error every time: That DBAN has encountered a non-fatal error and that the error is usually caused by damaged disks.
