On Feb. 8, the "New Updates Are Available" icon appeared in my system tray. (I have Win 7 set to "download updates but let me choose whether to install them"). As I recall, there were 11 updates ready to be installed, but my Update History shows that 12 updates were installed, one of which was "Update for Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 Junk Email Filter (KB2492441)". All 12 updates installed successfully. The "new updates are available" icon reappeared back in the system tray almost immediately after the updating was complete. So I installed that "Important" 3.4MB update. The icon reappeared. It wasn't until I had "successfully" installed KB2492441 a total of five times did I catch on to this seemingly endless cycle. how to stop this notification from reoccurring?

Various And Repeated Crashes

Nov 29, 2012

I came home from vacation a couple days ago, powered my computer on, and it crashed after approximately 2 minutes. It now continues to crash every 60-120 seconds after a boot.I am able to run fine in safe mode, so I began a process of turning all my peripheral drivers off and enabling them one by one to see if I could isolate the problem, but have not had any luck so far.

Putting Two Windows Installations On 1 USB

Jul 20, 2011

I have recently purchased an HP laptop with no cd-drive and hence created the recovery media on a USB.Due to some problems with this recovery media process - I ended up doing a clean install on Win7 instead.

Problem:I have a bootable USB stick, I need som assistance in putting both a Win7 image and a winXP image on this, and control it with a boot manager of some sort?

I recently had to assist my girlfriends father with repairing his xp installation on his netbook, also with no optical drive. So I thought for future events it might be good to have both

I was wondering if I could replace the hard drive with my suggestion link below. My only concern is that will the HD will fit. He said, he would like a little speed boost if possible so I'll be giving him a 7200rpm HD.

Computer Won't Start After Successful Restart

Oct 2, 2011

I experienced this problem since I tried to consult my constant BSOD problem in my computer to a 'computer technician', resulting couple of problems, HDD failure and she made a so-called 'tweak' on my BIOS, to make the long story short, she didn't solved my BSOD problem. Ended up buying a new hard disk. I bought a new hard disk and a legit computer technician installed it. No BSOD or anything, my computer runs smoothly and runs like a brand new one, but the problem is my computer won't start after a successful restart. Monitor's light is blinking and the CPU's fan is still running as well as the CPU power button.

No Operating System Installations Found?

Feb 8, 2012

Yesterday, my computer crashed. I tried to restart, but after the BIOS screen, it just goes black, and has a flashing '_' in the top left corner. So I put in the reinstallation CD to try to repair the computer. I do everything necessary to bring up the System Recovery tool, but in the box that lists the Operating System to repair, it doesn't list any. So I clicked on Load Drivers, as it instructs, to find the hard drive drivers, and I CAN SEE MY C DRIVE in the dialog box. I am able to browse it and everything (Windows, Program Files, My Documents, everything). So my computer recognizes the hard drive and everything, it just says that there is no OS installed. I can't run System Restore or anything. how to "find" the operating system? Could something have happened in the registry that I could go edit?

I have tried so many things through the command prompt, but nothing works.

Dual Boot Two Windows 7 Installations?

Sep 8, 2011

I'm looking for a security solution when it comes to stolen laptops. I would like a solution that involves both full system encryption for the main O/S, and a dummy O/S that is loaded with location tracking and spying software. The problem with doing this on one O/S is that full system encryption requires a password at boot, meaning the thief will be forced to wipe the HDD and the location tracking software will never get a chance to work. Likewise, I can disable the encryption and use a guest account on a single O/S, but that leaves my files vulnerable. I could also use a Truecrypt container for my secure files, but they are of fixed size, cumbersome to use, and can't protect all sensitive data without mucking up the main user account.

The best solution would be (ideally) as follows:One Windows 7 installation fully encrypted using Truecrypt. One Windows 7 installation setup as a dummy O/S. Grub Bootloader that can load either O/S (Grub supports unlocking Truecrypt). The two main problems that I have with this setup, is that this requires 5 partitions (2 for each Windows 7 install, 1 for grub), and I haven't figured out how to reduce this number. I can only have 4 primary partitions on a drive using MBR. Another problem I'm having, is that Windows 7 likes to mess around with the drive letter assignments, refuses to boot from anything but C: drive, and doesn't check UUIDs or anything else when selecting which partition to boot.I can try to do this with Windows XP as the dummy O/S, reducing the partition number to 4, and Windows XP will boot off any drive letter. Still, Windows has a problem with attacking other Windows installations, and causing general mayhem. Windows does not like to share the HDD with other Windows, go figure.

Folders Are Not Showing After Successful Virus Cleanup?

Nov 4, 2011

Well my computer was infected with a strange virus recently which I managed to get rid of with help of various antiviruses and anti spywares, and my pc is all clean again. But the problem I have now is that great number of folders have disappeared! I have already checked if they were hidden or even deleted, but when I manually access those folders from browser address bar it works just fine. (I.E theres no way I can see my "program files x86" in the browser, but yet when I type in C:program files x86 it would take me there just fine").

Windows 7 Ultimate On Toshiba A35-S159 Successful?

Mar 26, 2010

I just had to post with the fact that I have successfully installed Windows 7 Ultimate on the following system.Toshiba A35-S159.50 GB Hard drive.Pentium IV 2.3GHz 512MB RAM!I have to say I was impressed. The minimum requirement posted for Windows 7 was 1 GB of RAM so I didn't even expect the install to complete. It actually seems to have increased in performance which is not what I expected at all. This system has a Intel 852 Integrated Graphics Adapter and there are many threads beginning to form about the incompatibilities or the tricks people used to force it to work. I, however, chose to just use the default setup by windows which allowed me a 1024 x 768 resolution, which is perfectly fine for this laptop.

Repeated STOP:0X00000124 Errors?

Aug 30, 2009

I'm getting this error repeatedly right now. System will run for anywhere upto an hour before BSOD or just a crash and reboot. I was reading a magazine about an hour ago with the computer on and watched as the thing crashed and rebooted 4 times in 30 minutes. I'm at my wits end with this. Was happening with vista too which is why i downloaded the RC for Win 7 after doing a vista reinstall and everything else i could think of to solve the problem.I installed RC about 3 weeks ago with no problems for about a day then it'd happen once a day or so now though it's happening a couple of times an hour.Thinking it was a graphics card problem i updated my drivers but no luck, then switched out my ATi Radeon HD4650 for a Radeon X1650 but no change, just worse graphics on WoW.

Can someone please tell me first what STOP:0X00000124 errors are and how to actually diagnose them or even better how to fix themHere's the details i get offered on the latest crash after reboot.[CODE]

Repeated BSOD Resulting In Minidump

Jan 9, 2012

Suffers from a repeating BSOD. Unfortunately I reinstalled Windows (win7 x86 sp1) before thinking to package up the minidumps. However, when installing Office the computer conveniently bsod'd, hence the uploaded minidump.I'd be grateful if someone would take a look at it for me - let me know if you need more information regarding the system. All I know is that it's a brand new install, and isn't likely to be due to graphics hardware, as both the current gfx card (AMD hd5450) and the old (an older AMD/ATI graphics card) both suffered from BSODs. Additionally, I've run a pass of Memtest and of Prime95, without any errors reported

Repeated Unexpected Shutdown BC Code 124?

Mar 28, 2012

I have a pc with following spec:

Windows Home 7 64 bit
Packard Bell ixtreme M5722
Intel(R)Core(TM)2 Quad CPU
RAM 6GB
160GB HD

It is a factory refurb ex-demo which came with windows 7 installed.I originally got the machine in January with a 1TB HD plus NVidia GeForce graphics card.Using with USB wired mouse, wireless keyboard. All was well for 10 days or so until it started having unexpected shutdowns. These increased to become full BSOD, occurring once or 2x daily. These events sometimes occur without warning although sometimes the mouse/keyboard goes sticky for up to an hour before problems occur. The machine has been back to supplier where it failed to display any problems.I have tried it without graphics card, tried disconnecting speakers, using with/without surge protected adaptors, tried different mouse/keyboard (wired and wireless).

Finally I tried my 1TB HD in another PC (same model as mine).Complete lockup of keyboard/ mouse.Reinstalled on 160GB HD (all that was available to test) in the alternative PC, refused to work with wireless keyboard and mouse, ran fine for a week with USB wired devices. Swapped back to my original PC keeping 160GB HD, ran 2 days ok, now back to same BSOD message.

Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: BlueScreen
OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.768.3
Locale ID: 2057
