Slave Drives Say "format Disk"?

Mar 9, 2012

Whenever I install anything or uninstall anything I get "format drive(s)" on my screen and my slave drives become inaccessible. Both slaves are un-damaged, I am virus free as well as spyware or malware free as numerous scans from Malbytes, Spybot and AVG all show nothing. I restart my PC, the drives are back, fully functional and no other issue(s) arise til I un-install or install something. Throughout the whole process, my main drive is never affected in anyway, not even in the least. I myself am stumped as I've checked the cables (sata) the slots for dust or inconsistency, ie : power or other issue with slot or cord. Drives were tested and spun at optimum level with no corruption.

Unable To Use Adv Format Drives?

Aug 4, 2012

I bought two new Western Digital AV-GP WD3200AUDX drives. They're advanced format drives designed for audio-video editing folks, but essentially they're just a bit better than any standard SATA drive (per reviews I've read).

My Config:
Windows 7 Home Premium 64
Asus P6T Deluxe V2
2x WD AV-GP drives (320GB each, RAID0)

I would install them into a RAID0 (striping) configuration and then install Win7 Home Premium 64. The problem is that if I enable RAID in the BIOS, windows WILL NOT recognize these drives and thus I can't install to them. I saw that there's a problem with earlier versions of Intel RST and that you can either download new drivers or upgrade to Win7 SP1 which includes the fix.[URL]

Problem: I can't install, so I can't use the new drivers. The driver disk they have available for installation is (a) meant for XP and such, not Win7... and (b) doesn't work anyhow.Another Problem: I installed Win7 to a separate drive in IDE mode and upgraded to SP1, but now Windows has a boot loop and windows startup repair is telling me SP1 is the issue. The theory here was that I would get SP1 up and running with the drivers, then tell Windows to do an upgrade/clean install over to the new RAID drive (which it would hopefully recognize now) and download updates prior to the installation, thus enabling it to work during install. The only thing I can try doing (that I haven't yet) is updating the BIOS, but none of the newer updates mention anything about drives or storage compability, so I don't think it'll have any effect.

Format Hard Drives In Windows 7 Installer?

Apr 21, 2009

I was running Windows 7 and I decided to test out Linux Ubuntu so that I would know what I was talking about with the OS. The disc run was pretty bare bones so I decided to install it onto my system. Bad news is that it completely messed up Win7 somehow and I was pretty much forced to do a re-install of my Win7 installation. When I went to re-install to fix the lag errors, it says I can't install on any of my hard drives because they have been all changed to ext3 format by Linux. I have no idea how to change them back to NTFS format for Windows. is it possible to format my hard drives back to NTFS using the command prompt that is in the Win7 install disc?

Need To Format The Disk In Drive F?

Dec 19, 2011

This weekend a installed the windows 7 64bit over a vista 32bit. During the installation I left my Samsung S2 HD 500gb plugged in.After the installation the windows didn't find a mass storage controller drive and my HD appeared as Local Drive ( F: ). When I try to access it, this msg comes up: you need to format the disk in drive f before you can use it. I tried plugging in all usb port I could find. And even the win xp 32bit showed the same msg. I also tried the "Easy Recovery Pro". But it didn't worked. When a click on any of the recovery option the software doesnot find any hard drive in my pc. Then I tried the "GetDataBack for NTFS". After 24 hours of scanning, it didn't find any of my files. Tonight, I will try the "diskdigger" and the "Recuva". But I am not putting too much faith on those software due some post I read here. I really need to recover same work data.

Windows Can't Format Disk?

Feb 5, 2013

SO, problem is: I got this USB, it worked very well 'til some days ago. I can't format it, no matter what I try, e.g. formatting it using different formats, formatting it using Computer Management, formatting it in safe mode. None of these things seem to work for me, and I have no idea why. There's also something else to it: before it became unusable and not format-able, it was somewhere around 4GB, and now, when I want to format it, it gives only the option to format it using the capacity of 12.5MB, which doesn't work anyway. I've tried looking at unpartioned spaces in it, but there aren't any, so I completely have no idea how to go through this problem.

Cant Find Any Disk Drives?

Nov 9, 2011

have used ATI for a long time with no problems on various machines, including my Windows 7 Ultimate, x86 computer. this machine has a WD black caviar sata lll 500gig hdd, but is connected on sata ll (mobo doesn't support sata lll). have just got a new machine which is running windows 7 ultimate x64. it has the same hdd as the machine mentioned above, but is connected as sata lll on the mobo. ATI told me that it couldn't find any disk drives, so i couldn't back up the hdd. i discovered that WD put out their own version of ATI, so i downloaded it, installed it and made a recovery cd. this gives me the same error that it cant find any disk drives so i still cant back up the hdd. didn't see why but thought it may be the o/c settings, i reverted back to stock but no difference. windows backup works, but produces a hell of a big file compared to ATI.

Computer Won't Recognize Disk Drives

Jun 15, 2011

I have switched CPUs in order to upgrade my system, but I have copied over all the important files from my old computer. The current CPU was used by my dad before me and worked perfectly. It runs on Windows 7. However, since unplugging the tower and moving it back to my room, it no longer recognizes any of my CD/DVD drives. They are both functioning, turning on and opening and closing, but they are not listed under COMPUTER. I have tried several fixes on this site including merging my registry with a file on Notepad and running a program called cdgone but it still doesn't work. When my computer boots up I go to a screen with F2 that allows me to view my system. The drivers are listed as off but when I switch them over the computer will not let me. [code]
