View 1 Replies View RelatedIs it possible with the non-Windows 7 machine's shares set to something besides "guest access allowed"? I've tried a few tweaks on my Windows 7 desktop and my Kubuntu 11.04 Linux-running laptop. Nothing has worked. Unless access to a shared directory is set to guest on the laptop, the Windows box keeps asking for a legitimate password, whenever I attempt to 'open' them.
Both machines have the same log-in strings for both basic log-on and Samba. Or do they? I'm presuming there's no separate logon/password required for Windows 7 Home Premium when it comes to file sharing, but as a late Windows XP Professional user (both SP2 and SP3), I'm not taking anything wholly for granted. Any Windows build since the dawn of XP that installs without gpedit.msc is bound to be lacking in other ways, imco.
it took me a while to find the right driver for my ACR38U card reader, but now I've found and downloaded it, it seems none of the sites that work with it (like tax-on-web) will open. It always says "impossible to open page". I'm new on Windows 7, so I quess it's some to do with "security" in "internet options", but I can't find it.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI know this is a small issue but I've already tried a few things. Naturally I made sure that in WMP 12 I went to Organize > Options > Player Tab and made sure "Keep Now Playing on top of other windows" is already UN-checked.I can also get this to work in the 64 bit version by doing the following:
1. Right click on the WMP shortcut and click properties.
2. In the Target box Add /Task MediaLibrary to the end.
3.Click ok.
Should look like this."C:Program FilesWindows Media Playerwmplayer.exe" /Task MediaLibrary Here is my particular conundrum. When I use the above example it works but it reverts back to the 64-bit version of WMP 12 and I lose all of my custom plug-ins. All my plug-ins are only compatible with the 32 bit version of WMP NOT the 64 bit version. I'd like to find a way of opening WMP 12 (32-bit) with Library View on top without losing the plug ins.I know this is a small issue as I can always click "Switch to Library" in the upper right hand corner. But who wants to do that every time a person opens WMP 12? I know its not the end of the world, but I never use the Now Playing screen as I'm always in the Library.
when i try to open my windows explorer to view the documents....it displays 'windows explorer had stopped working' and then it shows 'windows explorer is restarting' then nothing happens..
View 1 Replies View RelatedAll of my view settings seem to stick fine, except when I choose File - Open Desktop in some application. Then it's Tiles view instead of my Details view, as saved for every other folder. in 7 x64I already tried resetting Folder view otions as per Folder View - Set a Default for All Folders
View 9 Replies View RelatedOkay, have managed to tweak *most* of what I dislike about Windows 7,diabled libraries and favorites, turned off stupid giant icons and got Explorer view back to the Details/ Date Descending that I've been using since Win3.1 days. Fixed taskbar, fixed the theme, got away from all the web styled view as link nonsense, but.I cannot get the Open/Save dialog that appears whenever you use, well, open or save in most any program, especially legacy or XP-based programs (for instance, Irfanview, VirtualDub,etc)to remain consistent folder to folder.Windows 7 seems to insist, rather lamely, that this be manually set with multitudinal clicking for each and every folder. Especially if differs from the default Explorer view (i.e. Details/Descending in Explorer, but want List/Descending in dialogs)Went thru a long process that involved customizing almost every folder I have to be "general items" instead of whatever the stupid folder contents discovery decided it would be, and then set general items to be viewed a certain way in dialogs via registry edits. But Windows 7 unilaterally decided to forget most of these changes after a short time.I also killed libraries entirely around then so that might've been it.Anyhow, is there anyway to have Windows7 actually respect global folder view settings? (without using dumbass libraries/favorites)Call me crazy, but I prefer real folders not virtual ones, named intelligently based on contents or purpose (i.e. not stuff like "my documents"),all located straight off the root C drive where I can navigate to them quickly, not buried three levels deep in some favorites menu,

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded to Windows 7 Enterprise having had used XP for years. In addition, I have an 8tb server networked with a large collection of movies. With XP, I made each folder a thumbnail (.db file) so that each folder containing the movie would have a picture of the movie cover. My HTPC is still running XP, and of course, can view the thumbnails just fine. With Windows 7, I have tried everything.Basically, i can't get it to show the thumbnail (.db file) which is contained inside each movie folder.I have changed the folder options to "always show icons, never thumbnails" so that it will show thumbnails. I have changed the local group policy editor to make sure that windows has the proper settings. There is even an option to" turn off the display of thumbnails and only display icons on network folders."
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am running an 8 pc network (all on windows 7 with 4 on pro and the other 3 are home versions). I have a file/media server running windows 7. I just upgraded from Windows Home Server to Windows 7 professional. I have set the workgroup name to the same on all pc's. I used to be able to browse the network from my computer and be able to see the server and all the other pc's. I can no longer see the server in the network view. I can access the server by typing //server in the explorer but it still does not appear when I attempt to browse my network neighbourhood. How can I get it to appear in the network view I am stuck as I have not had this issue before.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to set up a file and sharing network between my PC's, 2 Win 7's and 1 Vista, and I'm having a bit of trouble. I followed all the steps in the tutorials across the web including this link, How To Share Files and Printers Between Windows 7 and Vista - How-To Geek, and the closest I could get is the Vista accessing one of the 7's. All the PC's see each other, it's just when I try to access files over the network with the 7's I get a "You don't have permission to access...contact your network administrator" error. I'm the admin on both computers and I really can't get by this. It's so frustrating, I have been doing this for like 3 days already.Just a bit of info, I do have BitDefender 2011 on both the 7's and not the Vista. Although it might not make sense, I thought this might be the issue of why the Vista can access one of the 7's, I disabled the service through msconfig -> services and startup. Also disabled the firewall on all. It still didn't fix the problem.I actually figured it out. Although I enabled sharing with "everyone" and set permissions to full control, "everyone" was not showing up under group and users in the security tab. I just added that and voila.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI work at a company in the UK which is attempting to start rolling out Windows 7 to all computers (early adopters and all that, it's just a lot easier than the current mishmash of OSes we have!). One of the 4 users migrated so far is having an odd issue with her wired network (her network controller is a "Broadcom Netlink Gigabit Ethernet"). She's the only person not from the IT dept or the MD of the company to be moved across, so we set her up as a non-administrator to avoid problematic software etc etc.
Suddenly, 3 days ago, whenever she switched on her computer, the connection would claim "Limited or No Connectivity" (even though she appeared to be connected to the Domain), and there was no Internet access. Having played around with numerous things (driver updates, both from Broadcom and HP - the laptop manufacturer, being the main one), I found the only way to get it working again was to disable and re-enable the network controller. The problem with this is that it required a UAC authorization (even though I'd set UAC to never notify), and that requires a domain administrator password (which is a pain in the wotsit).
Anyway, I figured, reluctantly, that if I set her account up as a local administrator, that at least it shouldn't require a password to reset the device. Rebooted the PC, and suddenly the wired network started working from boot without the need to reset the controller.
My question is - has anyone else had any issues with non-administrators being forced to reset their network controllers to get internet connectivity, and is there a known fix?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a small network of six computers. Five of them run XP and I just added a Windows 7 machine. I've got a Microsoft Access 2003 database that all of the computers share that is hosted on one of the XP machines. The Windows 7 machine can access the Access database through the network just fine, as long as no one else is accessing it. However, if someone else on an XP machine on the network is using the file, it won't open on the Windows 7 machine. Doubling clicking the file on Windows 7 gives me the circling blue icon for a second or two, then nothing happens. If the XP user exits the database, then I can open it fine. Permissions on the XP that is hosting the database is set to allow everyone. And all the XP machines can access it at the same time.

When it does load, the page becomes very choppy when I'm scrolling up/down and is generally slow to respond. It's the same for any website I have pinned to my taskbar.
The strange thing is, If I open up IE9 (non-pinned) and browse using the address bar everything is smooth and fast. I've cleared my temp internet files and reset IE to default settings with no luck. I've also tried un-pining then re-pinning website but it's still the same. Is there a way I can clear the cache for individual pinned sites?
