Search Box Not Working?
Oct 4, 2012Often the search box at the bottom of the Start menu does not find the file on the hard drive. But the file is there when I look in Documents.

Windows 7 Not Updating, Indexing Not Working, Search Not Working?
Sep 2, 2012The problem likely started when I cloned my drive to a new Seagate drive using a Seatools *Seagate** utility, which I believe is actually made by Acronis. The final fix was installing new drivers for the Hard drive from Intel "Intel Rapid Storage Technology"

Search Tools Are Not Working
Nov 11, 2010I have not the Search tool in the Star menu and libraries, just in IE. I have checked the tutorial here, I did everything I checked the box and it's ticked, I don't understand the reason which the Search tool is not working when I accept the changes and it starts to make the changes but at the end a message pops-up and says that some of the features did not change correctly I don't understand what's going on.

Apr 13, 2011So, I've been trouble free on Windows 7 for a long time. Today, while searching for a document containing the word "audit" I realized that my Windows 7 search is not returning correct results.I open up the Documents library link, and I see all of my files. I see files with the name audit in them. I go to the top and put audit into the search field and it comes back with 2 files...and misses handfuls of other files that contain the word. I then search for .xlsx (as this is a spreadsheet) and I cannot find that either. I can find other .xlsx files, but not a good handful of them.I've cleared the index and rebuilt it, but that didn't resolve the issue. My results are the same as they always were.

Mar 2, 2011So I just did a fresh install of windows 7 and now all of the sudden the search function, as far as I can tell, does not work. At all. I tell it to search for a simple file I KNOW is there and it does not bring it up. It brings up nothing. Infact it wont find anything on my computer at all. Seems 100% useless. So whats up with that? I never had issues with Windows search before, not with Vista, XP, or any other. is there a 3rd party search engine I can use to find stuff on my computer? I have almost 3TB of stuff, I can rarely remember where I have stored every single thing I would use.

Clear Type Text Not Working But Only In Yahoo Search
Sep 16, 2011Suddenly when doing a search in Yahoo the display font of the results is not correct. It is not clear type. Everywhere else clear type works fine. Everywhere.
I have done system restore to a point I know it was working and that did not resolve it. I have disasbled and reenabled clear type text both in Windows and in IE8.
I did do all the Windows updates on Tuesday but I can't think how one of those would effect only Yahoo Search.
I recall this happening on my old system for one user and not another and we could never resolve it. It was summized that it was a corrupt profile but I can't understand how it would only effect Yahoo.
how I can get the Yahoo search results to have the proper font? therwise it's off to Google but I'd rather resolve this..

I tried to install a hotfix which didn't work (update not applicable to my computer). I've seen other posts about deleting a registry key, but I don't have that registry key in the first place. Aug 12, 2012I have been doing some searches using the search box that comes up when you press the colorful button on the bottom left. It finds nothing. I can have folders and WORD documents on my desktop, and it always comes up now with nothing found. If I create a test Folder, or WORD document, put on the Desktop, it won't find them. Always used to work fine. Only difference now is that I put in a new HD after the old one failed. Everything else seems to work fine.

For example, When I click Start, type "CC" in the search box, the Start menu displays what I intend to start (CCleaner) but when I press enter I get this:
Its acting completely wierd!
On top of that, when I right click the entry, I get a menu which is expanded towards the left awkwardly.
I also recall that I have unchecked "Allow files on this drive to have contents indexed in addition to file properties." in the properties of my Windows 7 boot drive.
And since the programs are installed there, I think the problem might be related.
I have checked it again but it dosen't have any effect!

I enter the same keyword (one of the words contained within the title of a completed task) in the Outlook Task search box as I do the Windows 7 orb 'search programs and files.' The Windows 7 search returns the correct search result (along with a lot other results having the same keyword) practically immediately whereas Outlook is still searching...and searching.
If I have index options set to include the C: drive and Outlook, what's going on with Outlook?

It is fixed now, but the other issues I was having at the same time was not being able to view indexed files through the "search programs and files" and "windows explorer search" box. The screen goes blank or does not produce any results. Also, one of my downloaded software disk programs will not open--error. This particular program, Logos Bible software, index its files quite often. Even when I am not using the program. I also cannot change my desktop background to any picture except solid colors. I think my laptop has a corrupted file somewhere, or it is infected with malware.

Nov 25, 2010"windows cannot find 'search:query=XXX'" error I have been experiencing lately.
The problem is similar to the one I described previously (here: Windows could not start the Windows Search service on Local Computer)
...namely, I am running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit, and have experienced the same error message ( windows cannot find 'search:query=XXX', where XXX is my search query) when attempting to initiate a search via the Windows start menu search box. Unfortunately, my previously proposed solution (of removing a network search location from Windows Search Index list) does not resolve it.....and so finally I resorted to using Samhrutha's proposed solution of modifying the registry to reset Windows Search back to default (which DID work...but ended up removing all the search index customizations I had made).
However, when I then modify the search indexing options to include indexing of my C: drive, I get the "windows cannot find 'search:query=XXX'" error message.
If I then uncheck the C: drive box in the search in the search indexing options, the error message does not occur....so I then went thru a tedious process of trying to identify which folders on my C drive were causing the issue, and from what I am able to tell, the "windows cannot find 'search:query=XXX'" error message seems to always occur when the indexing options include at least one folder WHICH IS OWNED by TRUSTED INSTALLER (e.g., program files folder, program files (x86), c:, etc.). This wasn't a problem previously, so my guess is that MS Update recently (e.g., w/in the last few months) changed some security setting which now prevents Windows Search from being able to index/access folders owned by TRUSTED INSTALLER, resulting in the "windows cannot find 'search:query=XXX'" error message.
