Saving Pictures And Documents / Going To Two Different Locations
May 7, 2012
I just purchased a new desktop computer system.I am using Windows 7.I'm trying to think how to describe this so that it makes sense.I am the only person who uses this computer. The staff member who transferred my data from my damaged computer to the new one apparently gave the computer my full first name and then gave my "nickname" the Admin role. Now I appear to have two My pictures and my documents in the library. My photos are scattered between the two My Pictures. When I save something to my pictures it doesn't end up where I expect it to be. It could be in either My Pictures. Not sure if that makes any sense at all to you ... I don't want two sets of pictures and two sets of documents. When I save a picture I want it to go to the same place every time unless I designate it somewhere else. Before I start deleting/moving anything I need to understand why my pictujres are going to one area sometimes and sometimes the other.
I've set my icons to a certain size ( small) and placed in locations. After a restart they go back to medium size and line up on the left side of the screen

I'm working on Family Tree Maker, collecting photos from family, scanning them, saving, putting in FTM as I have time. Only, I'm missing some photos (and other documents) that I know I had.
I did a full back-up of my hard drive months ago, and I've been going through each back-up file looking for the photos and documents and slowly finding them in random locations, one at a time, but this is very time-consuming.
Before the problem I bought a new laptop and just hard the hard drive copied from my tower to the laptop. (Love the laptop, BTW!) I took the laptop back to the store to get my new wireless printer working. When I brought the laptop home I found a lot of games and programs were missing. Fortunately I was able to restore them from disks or if downloaded the sites allowed me to download them again. I called the store and told them the problem, suggesting maybe someone besides their tech has access to the computers in for repair, and they denied it and gave me the brush off. (BTW, I'm not going to do anymore business with them!)
I also use Picasa to add captions and descriptor words and I've been using that to look for items, but when something is found each one has to be checked against my laptops current folders to see if it's missing or not.
Is there an easier way to do find my missing stuff? How did my photos and documents get moved randomly?
I have an HP Pavilion s3700f desktop, Windows 7 Home Premium OS, 64bit. I used to be able to move items to DOCUMENTS and/or DESKTOP by right-clicking the item with mouse, but now those locations have been replaced with Compressed (zipped)folder for some reason. I can't figure out how to get back my DOCUMENTS and DESKTOP locations.
I'm running Windows 7. When I "right click, save" pics from the web, they oftentimes show up as a flat colored line. In the folder they've been saved in, the thumbnail looks normal, but when you open it, it's a mess. Or the picture is compressed to the point it no longer resembles the original photo.
I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate, Office Pro 2007, and have an older (but perfectly functional) HP PSC1200 all-in-one.I have some documents I want to scan and save as documents (preferably as .doc). Is there any streamlined way of doing this? Fax & Scan only gives options to save scans as a few different image formats - .gif, .jpg, .bmp, and .tif - no other image formats, nor any document formats (.pdf, .txt, .doc, etc.) are available. As of now, after looking online in various places for over an hour, from what I can see, the necessary process is to save the scan as a .jpg, convert it to a .tif, open it with the Office Document Imaging program, and then send it to word.
I use Libre office for all my documents and spreadsheets etc,Now the problem is when composing a document in Libre office then send it off to a friend who don't use Libre office. He has Microsoft office so he cant open my document,What I really would like to know is what format should I save my documents in Libre office so that they can be read the other side with Microsoft office?. Or would it solve a lot of hassle if I installed Microsoft office,I'm running windows 7 home premium. my local newspaper editor,Its not on a big scale just now and again I write about some old news and old photographs of where I live.
Recently Paint will no longer save any pictures I re-size. I can find no explanation and I have no idea how to go about fixing it. Would a simple re- install of the software work? If yes, where would I get it? I have looked but it is dreadfully confusing.
I'm having a problem saving pictures to my personal folder with Windows 7. I never had a problem with Vista solftware. I was given options as to where I wanted to save the pictures. I'm not able to do this with my new computer since the name of the folder doesn't come up.
I have 3 computers. Computer A is a desktop runing Windows 7 Professional. Computer B is a desktop running Windows 7 Home Premium. Computer C is a laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium. FIOS is connected to Computer A. A Network of all 3 computers and a Homegroup have been set up from Computer A.We use Office 2010, mostly Word 2010 for our word processing tasks.I realize that with a Homegroup, you can create a Word 2010 document on Computer A, save it to the default location (Libraries/Documents), then open that document on Computer B, make changes to it, save it to the default location, and then open that same document on Computer A, which will show the saved changes made on Computer B.I would like to know if a Word 2010 document can be created on Computer A, then be saved to a specific folder - not a default saving location - on Computer B, so that the user on Computer B can modify the document, save it to a specific folder - not the default saving location - so that the user on Computer A can open the document from its specific folder and view the saved changes.Would this involve advanced sharing, or permissions, or some type of change on the network?
I was running out room on C drive so I moved Pictures & Documents folders to E drive. Now I'm planning to do a clean install of 7. Will those folders and contents be safe if I leave them on E drive while I'm reinstalling 7 on C drive?
They were working then I rebooted the pc today and went to click on computer and nothing happens, the only thing is the little folder icon comes on the taskbar and that's it, it doesn't open. Also all of a sudden my events viewer doesn't work either, get this error, specified query is invalid 15001BTW system restore wasn't on, I guess when I fixed my booting problem it turned it off, the only drives that had restore enabled where my other 2 drives not the one I needed.
I have two pc's in my home. One running windows 7 32 BIT, and one running Win 7 64 bit. I created a home group on the laptop, as I want to grab some files from the laptop and bring over to the Desktop unit (the desktop unit is the one running 64 BIT win 7). Both machines have different names and the clock is set with the right time. When I create the home group on my Laptop, and select files that I want to share, the basic libraries ARE viewable on the Desktop machine.
I can see Documents, Picture folders, but I cannot open them! I can also change the password on the Laptop, and then PC will be able to enter the correct password to join the homegroup, so I know they can see each other. But again, not able to open the folders. If I go on my Laptop computer and "right click" on a folder, and then go to "share with"... the default is set to "nobody" with a lock icon next to it. If I select "Homegroup" it does not change! It stays locked with "nobody"?
I think I might have picked up a virus. Anyway, after avoiding a crash , when going into my documents and then opening my pictures, there are no folders. But, when check "my pictures" properties, it list that I have 5,032 files using 6.32 gb. I tried to restore to different dates without any luck. I have also look at making sure it is not hidden
Which backup software to backup Pictures/Documents/Videos so that when you do a fresh install you don't loose anything.apart from your programs of course, just the documents backed up what do you use?
I open a file sent to me in email, click enable editing, work on it for three hours, hitting save all the while, then go to email it back and the file is gone. It isn't in my documents where I saved it, and it isn't under recent files. I am sure you can relate to the feeling of losing something you have worked hard on and I feel
I imported my photos from my SDCard to my PC using Picasa 3, and everything was going smoothly... until I tried to take a look at the photos! all of the photos that I've imported using this method for some reason all became greyed out! Viewing them on Picasa3, all you can see is a grey rectangle, in place of the photos. However, when using the windows explorer folder, i can see that the photos were imported correctly (it's not just a grey box, but the actual photos), but when I try to open it (using any program: Paint, Picasa3, etc), it is still a grey rectangle instead of the photos. I tried to upload the image and send it via email, and I get the same result. In my mistake, I chose to "delete the uploaded photos after uploading" option..it's my vacation photos from Croatia I'm not sure if there were any errors when I imported it... i stepped out for a bit while I was waiting for it to import. I looked around my SD card, and looked at the "Lost.dir" folder, and copied all of what's in there.I did use Glarysoft to recover the images, and I'm using a Windows 7 laptop as my computer. Also, are there other alternatives? I did save the lost.dir with all of the photo files in it, both in my SD Card, and on my laptop.
Does anybody know of any file converters out there (free if possible) that can convert ClarisWorks files to Office Word files? I have a lot of old documents that I wish to convert.
My hard drive contains a single partition covering the entire drive. I decided to divide the drive into two equal partitions using Computer Management/Storage/Disk Management. I learned that one or more unmovable files was located above the midpoint of the disk.Next I learned that if I know the location of the cluster or clusters I could copy these files to an external drive, reduce the existing partition and establish a new partition. At this time, I threw up my hands. I don't know the location(s) or how to find the locations. Can I actually accomplish my purpose within Windows or should I use a third-party partitioning utility?
got this after installing adaware 10 , put in theyre fix , nogo , seemd explorer.exe isnt loading into normal windows , safemode with networking is fine although i had to add explorer.exe to services , any idea how to get explorer to run after the password screen in normal mode, i've tried everything i have read online to no avail , this lil net book is looking like a great target at this point lol.
I've been getting the BSOD since 2010...usually occurs when accessing video or photos at mainstream sites like SI.com or FOX etc...intermittently...I've attached the CPU-Z, RAM-MON and the SF Diagnostics dump files.
I have Windows 7 Pro and I connect my laptop to many different customer networks. It does a nice job identifying the network and setting a default printer etc. However...
I have one customer with 15 cellular routers that I maintain. Each of them has a static LAN IP with DHCP turned off. As soon as I manually set the static IP Windows Identifies the network and I'm good. Then when I done I need to manually set the static IP back to DHCP. Is there any way for Windows to switch to a static IP that I assign when I plug into these routers?
or
Is there some third party software (free would be nice) that can do that?
My old IBM laptop had some software that did exactly that. I think it was called Access connections.
I went thru this with Vista, don't remember what the solution was..when search for a file by typing file name (or partial file-name (or extension)) in search field in folder window.. the results don't tell you where the files arewhat is the purpose of a search functionality if results don't display file-locations???I think in Vista I was able to tell it what cols to display in results (and I think there was one that displayed locations.. why it doesn't default to this I cannot fathom, but well...;-) but don't see how to do this in Win7
