So the PC froze up on me today, was getting very random CPU spikes. So i rebooted it, upon reboot i saw as the Bios loaded up:"SMART command failed" on one of my Hard drives. It was my WD 1Tb (not a boot drive, just data). When i finally got to windows, i couldnt access the drive, it told me to format. So i rebooted once more, CHKDSK ran on the HDD. It found 4 unreadable file sectors. Still cant access the drive. Then i boot into my OSX installation (dual boot), and i can access the drive perfectly fine, all files in tact.So now im running CHKDSK e:/r and its taking a long while. Is there anything else i should do apart from backup? How can i get it to just delete the 4 bad sectors and mark them as bad sectors?
I upgrade my pc with SSD everything seem to go fine but 2 of my 2TB drive giving me a Smart error now. i wonder if SSD has anything to do with Drives failing. My theory is that.
SSD runs on a flash based chip ... it is very stable but mean time it has huge access point of data that why it is fast. The reason i am thinking that SSD is killing my other drives is because my setup is a Media center. Software such as windows media center and media browser keep accessing my 2 TB Hitachi drive for movies, TV show and so on .. SSD in my opinion is running other drive to max point of spin and read/write in same time. which could caused these drive either over heat or over used that is just a theroy of mine
MY Setup : Media center pc with 4 2TB Hard drive Hitachi and 1 60GB SSD drive
I'm having a pretty big problem on my laptop- I can't connect to the internet and when I try to connect in the network and sharing centre it simply says 'The dependency service or group failed to start' and I am unable to connect to the internet (Using wi-fi). There's a lot more to it than that though. Simply put, here is a list of the problems I am facing:
1. Can't connect to the Internet 2. Cannot change theme, stuck in basic (Themes are grey and do not respond when I click on them in the control panel) 3. Overall brightness of laptop screen has decreased. 4. When opening my anti-virus software (avast) it says that the software is off and I should click the fix now button to turn it on. However, when I click on it nothing happens.
Please note that this problem occurred when I was messing around with command prompt ( I booted windows 7, pressed F8 and tried to check weather I could launch a USB program through safe mode- command prompt). I figured out I had no idea what the commands were and tried using one of the few commands I knew- ms config. I may have changed settings there and this could be how it happened, I'm not really sure. I'm not very experienced with command prompt but have full knowledge of control panel options, computer, etc.
Trying to create a batch file for Windows 7 to run a command (elevated ) in command prompt?User: is an administrator or in administrator group ( but actual administrator account may be disabled )essentially need to be able to double click the *****.bat filehave it open up cmd in elevated ( run as administrator ) , run the command in the dos window and reboot the computer.
In UNIX, for changing the directory path, there is "cd" command. .This works fine in windows 7 too.. But the problem comes when we are trying to change the path using environment variables. .
In UNIX, cd $JAVA_HOME changes the path to the value set for JAVA_HOME,
Similarly is there any command in Windows which does the trick from command prompt for changing path using Environment variables. .
Does any one know how to get the win.ini missing fixed when opening bootcfg/msconfig not found. Also How to change "forcing changes in msconifg" to "not forcing changes" in msconfig from command prompt, as well as opening msconfig from command prompt w/ dos command(s) / paramteters.
I am testing something and I want to populate errors to the S.M.A.R.T. but not damaging my HDD. any one has any ideas on that. I am using Windows 7 32 bit.
I've a corsair ssd 60GB with the latest firmware 1.3 And I wanted to use EZ smart response from gigabyte When I run eZ smart response it reboots windows to configure my setting to RAID and it does that
But after that the ssd does not appear in intel rapid storage technology even though it's in bios and in win explorer I even tried running smart response from gigabyte and gave me error that I need irst 10.5 or higher (I have 10.5) I download the latest version from intel but still the same error
if this hdd smart error C8H is a serious one? i can find only litle details on this. I'd like to know this as i bought an old IDE laptop drive for a pentium 4 era laptop that needed a slight upgrade, then one day i discovered this error while just playing around with the laptop, there's 19 errors of this so far and i don't even know what it does, the hd however works just fine except for that error, no surface problems or anything.
If anyone has heard of those type of softwares (like WinAshampoo's RAM Booster or something like that). I would like to know if these work in Windows 7?
my favorite is the one by IOBit. It comes with their Advanced System Care something like that XD
I was having problems with my computer running slowly after downloading MVPS Hosts and kept cleaning out the DNS client, etc.I rest back to MS hosts and DNS and did a fix it for slowness and now I keep getting popups for my HP printer/scanner program and even with cancel they keep popping up.I took some screen shots - but will only upload one as says others are too large - so I cut and pasted most of the messages onto the same paint.
I need some Drivers for my computer I bought at Cyberpower pc. It's an x- infinity case. It's about 5 years old. They said they don't have the driver's anymore. Wondering I somebody here has them. Drivers for the USB smart card.
Is there a way I can PERMENANTELY disable the smart pad? Every time I boot up the little darling is back up and working, I have to uninstall then re boot to stop it every single time I use the lap top.I have downloaded the latest driver, but it makes no difference. The fn9 button does not work at any time either so I do not have that option.
The only thing that failed is "Re-allocated sector count: results are value 138, threshold 140, worst 138.I have noticed my laptop heating up more than normal for a couple of weeks. Is this bad news?
Received an iPhone 4 S. D/loaded iTunes (for 64bit) and installed. Connected phone via usb port.iTunes does not show phone icon; no connection or synchronisation can occur.I have spent ages looking on the Apple site (boy they are tricky over there!) and the trouble shooter offered didn't help.As far as I can tell it's a conflict problem possible with anti virus (MSE).What I don't know how to do is: -properly test the usb port (which works fine for remote mouse plug in, any temporary flash drives via a hub) and test for what is preventing the two from recognising one another.
This isn't really a driver issue but more of a some help with local policy / permissions (I think).
I have just put a new Windows 7 PC on our domain and I am having a few troubles getting the Gemalto Smart card to work as a user. This card has the Gemplus esigner which lets us authenticate to connect back to our bank for secure banking.
Basically this PC is in a domain which locks the desktop and programs down so a user cannot access Programs etc. We then place an RDP icon in the start menu and they access their programs via RDP into a terminal server. Only a few programs are run locally on the PC.
When we install the Gemalto software on an XP machine we set permissions on the installation folder for everyone to have read / write access along with the registry key and this works fine an allows users to be able to use this on the local PC.
With Windows 7 I have tried this but I keep getting "Cannot fine the certificate store" error – however this works as administrator (local PC) which leads me to a permissions thing or a domain setting.
I can insert the smart card and manually import the certificate which reports successful yet the same error occurs.
Has anyone else has this issue or can anyone point me in the right direction?
I joined here recently and i am more or less a novice at this.I recent got this SMART error and windows told me that my hard drive might fail. After searching online,, i was suggest to download HDDscan .After using it, it shows me this
This is the only major showstopper for me in using Seven 95%
ActivIdentity USB Reader V2
ActiveClient 6.1
Both work fine in Vista 64 on the same box in dual boot.
In Vista the driver used is the generic MS usbccid.sys driver version 6.0.6001.18000 dated 6/1/2006
In Seven there are 4 MS drivers all version 6.1.7000.0 dated 6/21/2006:
- scfilter.sys
- WUDFUsbccidDriver.dll
- winusb.sys
- WUDFRd.sys
In Device Manager status I get the "This device Cannot Start. (code 10)" message.
If I uninstall the device and plug it back in I can see that Windows sees an ActivCard USB reader V2 (shows up in "Other Devices" while drivers are trying to install) but the install fails for the Microsoft Usbccid smartcard Reader (WUDF). I have tried the latest drivers to no avail.
I ran Dell's PC Checkup and it failed on the SMART Short Self Test. From what I get this basically means my hard drive is going to fail any time, true? When I get a new hard drive can I use the Windows 7 code that's on my computer or will I have to re-buy Windows 7? Are there any tutorials for replacing the main hard drive?

The laptop were turned off and she turned it on and fingered with it (it turned on and I have a user password to open it.) and when I turned it back on the smart pad didn't work anymore. Do Ihave to update the drivers or what? The pcsays it's updated, but still don't work. I have used both wireless and smart pad without any problems. Any tip on how to turn it back on? Have tried the souse section on controll panel without results. I feel handicapped witout the smart pad since I finally have get used to using it
