Remove (Hibernation Is Not Enabled) Message
Oct 11, 2009
I've intentionally disabled hibernation and Windows 7 constantly wants to remind me that I've done so. On startup, the message "Hibernation is not enabled" appears as a balloon on the taskbar. Is there any way to make this not show up? I've disabled all of the icons/notifications but it seems to remain persistent. Perhaps there is a registry tweak to have it go away?

After some recent updates and/or software installs, at some point the "hiberation" option no longer appeared in my start menu shutdown options. I searched the web and found many posts suggest that the fix is simple -- all I have to do is enable hiberation via one of two ways
- run "powercfg -h on" from an elevated command prompt
- modify the registry to enable hibernation
Well I did both those things and neither worked. The registry already had the correct value for the key -- hibernation is enabled.

When coming out of hibernation in Windows 7, I get the following error message:
"Your system's firmware did not preserve the system memory map across the hibernation transition. If you proceed with resume, your system could behave in an unexpected manner after resume completes. It is recommended that you save all your data and reboot after system resume finishes. Kindly check for a firmware update with your system vender as it may fix this problem."
Windows 7 continues to resume and I have not noticed any problems once it resumes.
I am dual booting Vista 64 bit SP2 and Windows 7 64bit on an HP DV3510NR. I recently flashed the latest bios version for my system dated May 2009.
I have no problem resuming from hibernation when booted into Vista. Has anyone else gotten this error message. Any thoughts on how to go about solving this?

When I put my computer in hibernation, sometimes when I wake it, it hangs at the user select screen, or it just shows a black screen. Sometimes I can reset the computer after it has hanged, and try again resuming from hibernation, and many times it will work after a couple of tries. Other times after resetting I won't get the prompt to try again with resuming (the other option is to delete hibernation data and reboot the system) but I will get the usual screen that says that Windows was not shut down correctly (with all the options for safe mode, etc). If I cannot resume and I get the screen with safe mode and all the other crap, I finally log in I get a notice that there was a critical error, in the details I see BlueScreen and other data, but I actually never get a blue screen. In the dump folder, there are no dmp files related to the hibernation hanging.
Anyway, when it happens, I see several Event 18 WHEA-Logger in the event viewer, about 6 of them every time. What's weird though, is that I literally have NO problems with this computer other than this. The only times it hangs is when I resume it from hibernation. I can play games or run stress tests with or without overclock and the system is 100% stable. But there is some problem that prevents it from resuming from hibernation correctly, so every time I use it is basically a gamble because it has like 50% chance of working.I tried EVERY SINGLE solution I found with google related to hibernation problems, and it's still there. I even formatted and reinstalled Windows from scratch, and it's still there. I'm positive I updated every single driver for every hardware I have and nope, no solution.I know the WHEA error is related to the hardware but like I said, everything works PERFECTLY once the system starts up properly, or when it resumes from hibernation properly. A couple of days ago, my laptop which is a few months old, started showing the message on my desktop Windows 7 Build 7601 This copy of Windows is not Genuine" and was asked to validate my Windows. My Windows 7 was pre-installed by the manufacturer and I do not have a key to validate it? I have not had any issues with it so far. I have double checked for any malware etc, no viruses present.

When I go to the "Manage wireless networks" in the Control Panel, it says "Wireless is not currently enabled."
How do I make it currently enabled, and also for the future as well.
Yes, I manually deleted the "wireless network" icon in the list of adapters, but now I don't see any way to get it back.
No, I do not have a wireless adapter, only usb 3g modem.

I have discovered that FTP does not work with 802.11n enabled on my ASUS K53E with Intel Centrino Wireless N-100. I have changed channels, configured mixed mode (2.4 - 5.0 etc) change frequency from 20Mhz to auto and everything else to (all one at a time). With N enabled my laptop connects to the internet at 150Mbps and downloads and browses perfectly. When I open Smart FTP, WS-FTP or core FTP the handshake and folder population takes forever if it does it at all however if I disable N and operate on g alone (connected at 54Mbps) FTP works no problem. My router is a Netgear DGN 1000 and has the latest firmware.

I had a question concerning the remote desktop assistance on windows 7. I noticed that it was enabled today and I was wondering if windows 7 enables it by default or if someone had to enable it. My friend told me that hackers can get on to your computer through this so I was concerned but wouldn't I have to allow them access to my computer? I was wondering also if downloading things off the internet could have enabled it?

I'm trying to gain complete network access between a Windows 7 desktop (Win7 Home Premium SP 1) and a laptop (Win7 Ultimate). I remember back in the old days of XP, all you had to do is enable file sharing, right click on the hard drive or folder you'd like to share, name it, share it and press "okay." The files I'd like to share are on the Desktop computer. When I go to HomeGroup/Advanced Sharing Settings, and make changes, press save, none of the settings actually save. I'm trying to turn on "Network Discovery" and "File and print sharing."Is HomeGroup the only way to share files over a network?

I don't have an answer but I do have a similiar problem. I upgraded from XP Pro to Windows 7 Pro 32 bit on my netbook. I created a bootable USB, copied the windows 7 files onto it and everything worked OK. However, when I bootup I also get the Boot Manager screen offering me 2 options:
Windows 7
Windows setup (EMS enabled)
which goes ahead and boot into Windows 7 after a countdown. Why would I ever want to boot into Winsdows setup? I would like to know if there is a proper way to bypass this boot manager screen. When I was installing the upgrade, I did see a small 40mb partition which was "reserved by the OEM" which I could not use, is that anything to do with it?

So I installed win 7 on a new WD 2TB Sata3 drive, I enabled AHCI before installing. I have two hdd which I use as storage, but after the reinstall only one of them show's up in my computer. I can see the other one on device manager. Does this have something to do with the AHCI? Never enabled it before now.

I Have a game to play online which I run using a script (*.bat).sometimes I host a game and sometimes I don't...(by the way, I hope this isn't illegal wright? )now I've been setting up everything in windows firewall, inbount and outbound rules for that program and all that security stuff.now here are two scenarios where, one works and another unfotunately does not:
-I log in as admin into windows
-windows has UAC disabled
-I run a script
-I play the game online
Second scenario :
-I log in as admin into windows
-windows has UAC enabled
-I run a script as Administrator
-I can't play a game online cos it can't find any server
as you see in these two scenario only UAC on/off is difference. How do I fix that issuse by keeping UAC enabled?

I have been in IT for 10+ years and have done desktop/server support, programming, DBA, etc. I have come across an issue on my personal laptop that has stumped me. This started recently in the past month. It was around the time, I did a few windows updates and a FF update. So I have been unable to pinpoint what caused it. All of my browsers started to freeze upon loading a new page (even non flash webpages, ie google.com) They would freeze for 5-10 minutes. I noticed if I disabled the flash plugin in FF, then FF acted normally. I uninstalled the flash activex module, and IE started to work properly again as well. I did a lot of testing by removing flash and all of my adobe components (CS4) and acrobat. Anything flash related I removed completely, I then used a tool provided by adobe to remove any leftover remnants of adobe (registry entries, folders, etc). I tried many different versions of FF, Opera, Safari and Chrome and many different versions of the flash player (9-current). They all acted the same with flash installed, if I uninstalled flash, all the browsers worked perfectly fine.

Backstory: I think some of you experienced this problem, Square ads are popping up in my firefox's bottom corners, after some searching, people say this is done with the "hosts" fileI tried to use Hijackthis to get a better idea of whats going on with my computer, and when i run it, it confirmed my suspicion, my system denied me access to the Hosts file and its the same even when i run it as administrator, I checked UAC but its already at the lowest levelAlso i noticed there are strange "CREATOR OWNER" and "Trusted installer" groups when i try to change the ownership and permission, however no matter how i try it just keep saying "Access is denied" and i cant change anything

I want to install Windows 7 on a clean drive.... but I cant even get to the install options, because the drive is not recognized when i turn on the machine. It stalls, even before I can get into the BIOS settings.I need to manuallly disconnect the drive > then change back to IDE mode inside the bios and now I am able to install Windows. The funny thing... I have a backup image of a running Windows 7 installation and if I copy it onto the exactly same drive it runs without problems in AHCI mode another weird thing.... i already installed Windows 7 in IDE mode and thought that maybe later, once the installation is done i could switch back to AHCI.well, same thing.... once ahci mode was enabled in the bios, the drive was not recognized anymore.i also tried to install the chipset drivers from within windows and got a "the system does not meet the minumum requirements."

I'm running Windows 7 Professional and it's completely up to date. I use it at home and at work in a domain. Network discovery is enabled but it's not working (not discovering any other pcs or printers on either the home network or in the domain). The only computer that shows up in the network is my computer. If I enter a valid name (\name) in explorer, it opens. I first noticed this when I tried to install the driver for a network printer. It can't find the printer so the installation failed. However, if I try to add the printer from windows and search for it on the network, the printer does show up.

Every time I start my computer my internal card reader has to be disabled and then enabled in device manager before it will work properly. I put a SD card in it and auto open doesn't work. I check My Computer and it shows that it's there but when I double click it to open I get a message saying to please insert the SD card. Once I go to device manager and disable and enable it orks fine. I tried different cards but it makes no difference. I installed a different card reader but the new one does the same thing.I tried doing a repair install but it completes and says the upgrade was not successful?I am running Windows & Pro 64-bit. This is a Renesas controller and I am using the latest driver 2.1.36.0 with firmware 4015.

I will start off by stating my relevant PC Specs for this thread:-
Asus P5B Deluxe MoBo
Intel Dual Core E6600 @ 2.40GHz
GeForce 7900 GS 512Mb
2 x 1GB DDR2 800MHz Corsair Value RAM (original) in Yellow Slots A1 & B1
2 x 1GB DDR2 800MHz Corsair Gaming RAM (NEW) in Black Slots A2 & B2
So I have just installed 2 extra GBs of RAM to bring my total to 4GB. After a successful boot and then checking my 'System' info Windows states 4.00GB of memory is installed but only 2.94GB is usable. Therefore I went ahead into my BIOS to enable the 'Memory Remap Feature'.However on reboot the PC gets to the 'Starting Windows' screen and doesn't get any further. The Windows logo doesn't start to appear. It just restarts going through all the usual screens again, eventually giving two options of:-
Launch Startup Repair
or
Start Windows Normally.
The repair never works and Windows will never start normally again until I return to the BIOS to disable the mem remap.Sometimes I have had a Blue Screen displaying the same errors as this thread:-Windows 7 64Bit BSOD's (IRQ_NOT_LESS and BAD_POOL_HEADER)I reset the CMOS to Factory Default settings and tried again but did nothing. Also I have never updated the BIOS from the original version as I'm a bit scared to do so.Have read about graphics card using part of the mem (which doesn't seem right with the 7900 GS as has it's own onboard mem) and also that voltages to the RAM should be increased.
MCH Voltages
Windows 7 :: Win 7 Wont Boot With 4GB RAM
Windows 7 RC won't boot with 4gb
I have looked hear for info on voltages and clocking but didn't get anywhere. Well got an overclock at 3.60Hz but only ran in Safe Mode. Obviously this is slightly irrelevant the above but was just trying stuff out and trying to learn more.
