View 0 RepliesThis is just a personal opinion and others may very well disagree. But I think Windows 7 64-bit is better than 32-bit simply because of the ability to make better use of installed memory. A 32-bit machine is limited to 4GB minus whatever memory might be set aside for graphics, etc. Most folks see about 3-3.5GB of usable RAM on a 32-bit machine. If your machine is upgradeable (or came with) more than 4GB RAM then 64-bit is the way to go.Memory - Set Maximum Amount Used by Windows 7..As far as using older legacy XP programs you could try running them in compatibility mode. View 4 Replies View RelatedI am trying to install Windows 7 onto my laptop as I want to do a clean install to wipe off everything and have windows freshly put on. My cd/dvd drive cannot read the disc. You can here the drive attempting to load up the disc but to know success. I have tried Microsoft Fix, does not work (however, it has in the past as well as booting from disc at startup-that too has worked in the past), I have tried booting from the cd/dvd drive on bootup, I have attempted to go into the registry and delete lowers installers I think its called (I didnt do this on previously installation attempts and I installed fine). I have all correct drivers according to my laptop, plus I've gone into the packard bell website to download the correct drivers and I have used windows update too in case I am missing anything. Nothing is working.

Basically, I overclocked my CPU to 4.19 gHz and everything is running smoothly (also got a Radeon 7770 HD graphics card) so I decided to redo my WEI score and close to the end of the CPU test the computer crashed and went to the blue screen of death before restarting again. Everything seems fine with my computer but I'm not sure what the problem might be. [code]

View 6 Replies View RelatedAfter numerous attempts, Windows install keeps stalling at the "expanding Window's files" screen, then cancels the install. (Bios checks ok, disk has no scratches, and both DVD writers return the same results.)To help prove the integrity of the SSD (still under warranty) I would like to now try doing a temp OS install on another internal HDD. There are 2 of those, each with data on them. Each HDD has only one large partition, as in drive D & drive R.What is the detailed procedure in preparing one of those HDDs in order to accept a temporary OS install, while still preserving the existing data on that physical disk? I must also be able to identify which disk is which (new partition?) when it comes to finding the "new" disk when loading the Windows 7 install software?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI work for a college that needs 2 and possibly 3 bootable partitions for testing.I might need the 3rd due to conflicts with the testing programs not liking each other. The hard drive has 3 50gb partitions with another 80gb unallocated on a 250gb hard drive.I have successfully done a XP followed by a 32 bit Windows 7.I tried to put Windows 7 on the third, and it didnt ask where to install.I just started to install without asking where to install.Because of this, it wiped out the boot manager of the disk and had to re-partition the disk.I am just wanting to know if this would be possible to do.

Having spent a while checking which of my existing applications will run under Windows 7 I have now learned enough to realise that my conclusions may have been affected by XP Mode which I believe exists only in Windows 7 Professional & Ultimate.
My current copy of Windows 7 is the Windows 7 Release Candidate which I believe is Windows 7 Ultimate, but the PC I hope to buy after Christmas will most likely be Windows 7 Home Premium.
Can anyone advise how I inhibit XP mode so I can test compatibility with Home Premium and/or how I can tell whether a legacy applications is running in Windows 7 Ultimate courtesy of XP mode, and therefore may not run under Windows 7 Home Premium?
I purchased a computer from eMachines for around $200 last year. I had originally bought it because the case was nice and easy to work with. I changed the 1 core Celeron 1.6Ghz to a Dual Core 2.2Ghz. I also upgraded the ram from 2GB to 4GB DDR2.I later started to get blue screens with the error "IQRL_LESS_OR_NOT_EQUAL". I brought it into my local Tiger Direct and a technician said that I had crashed sectors in my hard drive and to buy a new one and re-install Windows 7. I did so and about a few hours after, the system crashed again with the same error. I brought it back to them and they did thorough tests on every component and said that everything was fine. The computer has almost no third party software on it besides Google Chrome, Java and so on and so forth. But it keeps crashing. I figured it was the ram, but after testing it with MEMtest for 6 hours, nothing. I figured it was the GeForce 210 graphics card, so I installed the most recent drivers. Tiger Direct and I pretty much tried everything there was to try, but it keeps giving me IQRL_LESS_OR_NOT_EQUAL.
