I want to have a fresh install of windows 7.i dont want to download all the updates again that take so long.Is it possible to copy the software distribution folder from windows folder and manually install updates again in new installation.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI was trying to install a ubuntu distribution to my primary hard drive (along side Windows 7) and at 99% of copying files the setup reported there was not sufficient memory to install backtrack. I cannot boot back into windows 7 as the computer resets before getting past the boot screen (shows 'starting windows' as normal then the screen blacks and takes me back to BIOS). this process loops unless I select windows repair option, which does not fix the problem. The Backtrack live CD won't let me delete the new, half-installed partition, so therefore I cannot change the windows partition back to it's usual (small) size of 55GB.

Either I'm giving a "fresh start" to on of my household's computers or building a new computer for a friend or family member.This not only takes a lot of time but also a lot of bandwidth. Updating windows over and over again is a pain and games are commonly 10-20GB a piece nowadays.
Here's my plan, can someone tell me if it makes sense or offer better methods?Using VMware, create 3 images.-One image with only windows updates and essential programs (AV, VLC, browsers, etc).A copy image of that one with all non-game programs commonly used (office, gimp, wtvr).And a third copy with everything including games.Make copies and sysprep the copies.
I recently installed an SSD in my PC, and did a fresh install of Windows 7 in the process. I unplugged the HD with the existing install of Windows 7 during the installation process, and plugged it back in after. Now I'm trying to retrieve some settings for an app I had on my previous installation. But when I go to my old Windows 7 boot drive (now D: ) and try to access the AppData folder, it seems to be showing me the contents of my current AppData folder on C: instead. Is this what Windows does? If so, is there any way around it, so I can retrieve the application data that I'm after?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just installed Win7 and installed the updates (recommended ones and critical ones) then I proceeded to go to sleep.Today I noticed on my biggest partition (I have one for the OS plus the 100+mb one it creates itself and one more for movies, games, etc named K) I have a folder named e8cdef2aaf8f6997dd.I remember this type of folder is left behind when .NET Framework is installed because the installer does not clean the temp folders after installation. However, there was something strange with it - within it there are some installers as well as other updates (please check the image with the contents of it).What I'm asking is, can I delete it? is it really just a temp folder or do I need to install them manually? cause I tried and it said the net framework 4 client was installed previously and that I cannot continue the installation until I clear the other installation and start from the beginning..

I can't understand why I even need them, as I uninstalled net framework. Notice how the update at 8:17 AM., KB2656368, is the same as one of the 4 updates installed at 7:47 PM. Windows wants to install the same four kb files again.How do I stop this?

The OS installed some updates, and after re-booting and logging on, I got an error when one application that tried to start up failed to access my local temp file. I have local administrative permissions. I changed my temp folder environment variable to point to a different location, but this is the second time this has happened (first time was on different machine). "Cacls Temp returns Access is denied". I can't take ownership or anything of it.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhile her son was using the computer, he deleted various productivity programs (Word, etc.), because he's using it only for gaming.My cousin was trying to get those programs back, and oops!, put in the wrong DVD...the Alienware Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit reinstall disc.For whatever reason, she allowed the reinstall to go through, and now she has a new, blank desktop, and it's apparently missing video drivers (VGA display), networking drivers (no wireless networking) and who knows what else.Her old stuff is still on the computer in the Windows.old folder.I imagine her son's original setup is gone, but she'd at very least like to get back to regular video display (no drivers), working WiFi, and whatever programs she had before her son zapped them. (There is an Alienware "Resource Disc", would the factory programs be there?)She'd also like her stuff in Windows.old back in a place she can use.
We saw articles about restoring Windows.old, but the DVD drive isn't autobooting. We manually booted the DVD and started the process, but the "Repair" option is missing. We're worried another reinstall A) will take us back to where we were and B) if it'd wipe out Windows.old.

I am unable to connect to MSE to get updates or to Windows to get updates. I have run Malwarebytes and Emsisoft and neither one can find a bug. Tried take ownership, cacls, safe mode, tools etc.
Need to to really move it, because the 2TB disc had no room to do a copy. It's really a FAT/NTFS table issue.

(Win 7 64 bit, on Satellite Toshiba) I just noticed that I did not install it with a partition for the OS, Is this going to be a big problem at some point? All the tests passed but the problems were still continuing. They eventually decided to reinstall my OS which is Windows 7 and everything's been working fine except my computer is a lot slower and frequently feels laggy where they mouse would freeze up for a few seconds or move slowly across the screen. I have already tried cleaning out my registry with CCleaner and tried defragmenting but to no avail. I was wondering if there is another way to solve my computer lag problem.
