I have a packard Bell netbook and while it was starting up the other day I began to get a littl fed up of the anoyying vista bootscreen because of the 1024x600 display.
Does anybody know if there is a registry entry and were it is so that I may be able to force it to display the windows 7 bootscreen?
I got admin rights to edit the registry (and I've edited it before), but I've never 'created' registry items.I need to create this item:Quote: [HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionPoliciesExplor er]"NoSaveSettings"=dword:00000001
clean up my disabled entries in MSCONFIG BUT there is no entry for it in the registry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftShared ToolsMSConfig on my desktop.there is on my laptop.When is MSCONFIG hiding these things?How do i get it back?
How can I add a registry entry under HKEY_USERS for the current user? I already have the registry entry imported from my account, but my problem is it won't work with other accounts because we have different SID for HKEY_USERS.
The comp started BSOD'ing out of nowhere, a new adapter I think called ISATAP or something like that shows up under network adapters in device manager which had a yellow exclamation icon. (Code: 31). Disabling or uninstalling its drivers resulted in BSOD's. Googled around and found the only way to fix it was to delete some registry entries, so without backing up the registry I deleted some keys. I don't remember which keys but the image above is the result. I got Ubuntu live booted up and using it to post this because my Win 7 installation obviously can't connect to the Internet.
*I tried reinstalling drivers (Marvel Yukon & Belkin), disabling and enabling stuff but nothing seems to be happening.
*Got some registry fixing tools or whatever, still the same.
I have this laptop which belongs to my girlfriend, but it has a slight problem since a few days. It won't boot properly. If I just 'let it go' it gives me the screen about that i've added new hardware or something, and that i should start startup-recovery. From there, if I choose to boot normally, it crashes after the 'Starting windows' screen with the flag. It looks like it gives a black screen with some letters, and then BSOD's REALLY fast. Now the same thing happens if I boot into any safe mode.
So I started thinking, this might be some bootfile problem. And so I went for the startup-recovery mode. Too bad this only shows a black screen with a cursor in the middle, which i can move. Okay, so I tried booting from the cd. Same thing. Even with a recovery cd made with another computer running Windows 7 x64.
Ever since I put Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit on (about 6 hours ago) I get a black screen after boot screen, no login appears.
Black Screen:
* No Mouse
* No Keyboard
* No Screen (Duh) Its not a "Black Screen" more of a blank screen
I have attempted many fixes:
* Update Drivers for mother board
* Update Drivers For GFX card
* Batch Files in Start up (two different ones based on display)
* Updated BIOS
* Removing all other hard drives
Things that Have Worked:
* Running in Safe Mode
* Disabling GFX card
* Remove GFX card Drivers
This is how i came to the conclusion that my black screen is caused by my GFX card. But i don't want to have Windows 7 installed with out it (what would be the point).
I recently built a new rig and have had no problems so far, but just the other day (even up til now), when I turn on the computer I do not see the standard post screens or even the Windows 7 loading screen. However my computer DOES boot into Windows 7 just fine and everything works as usual. But this is bothering me because if I need to make any changes to the BIOS I can't. Does anyone know how to fix this? To clarify though, computer is not hooked up to a monitor, but to an 32" Toshiba LCD TV. It's been hooked up this way since I built the rig though.
While windows was uploading some updates yesterday, I cleaned my registry using Iolo's system mechanic tool and that's where the problems started. (I already read and understood your message: don't use those tools and stay out of your registry. A lesson I learned too late, unfortunately.)My computer rebooted and after a couple of minutes I noticed the message: " failure configuring windows features reverting changes ". I managed to bypass this loop by running in safe mode and recover my computer to a restore point in the past. This only worked partially: I get windows to run in normal mode but I get this message: "system failed while restoring the registry from the restore point. Restore point damaged or was deleted during restore". So it didn't restore but I can get into my windows now.So I don't get the 'reverting change loop' anymore, so I can access my computer but what's the mess? Well my computer is slow as hell.Like mentioned above, I already looked around on this forum and wrote down what I already tried. [code] My computer is terrible slow because of a registry defrag/optimization of a registry tool (in combination with windows update) --> I need to find a way to get back my old registry files but system recovery ain't working.
I've unistalled Amd Driver from Device Manager, Unistalled Catalyst software and ran Driver Sweeper. There is only 3 registeries that the Driver Sweeper CAN'T delete and these are under SYSTEM folder. I've tried to change user privilegies but this far I've not succeeded.
One of my friends has a Windows 7 computer, but suddenly it could not start,I got an error like this
File: BootBCD Status: 0xc0000098 Info: The Windows Boot Configuration Data file does not contain a valid OS entry
And I ran a Code: chkdsk c: /f /r followed by a Code: Bootrec /RebuildBcd , where it asked me, if I want to add the entry to the BCD store, and of course I answered yes Afterwards I rebooted the computer, but it came up with a blank screen. I then tried to restart the computer and it keeps coming up with a blank screen. I tried to repair using the Windows 7 - cd's repair, but with no succes. It found the Windows 7 Home Professionel, but when I tried to repair it, it says, that it could not find the OS (something like noOSInstalled). I then came into cmd again, and tried first with Code: BootRec , but it could not find the OS.Now I set it to run Code: chkdsk over the night, but what can I do, if I comes up with the blank screen again? Do I have to reinstall the computer, or are there other solutions?
CHKDSK found ad sectors in the following files Code: WindowsassemblyNATIVE~1.303PRESEN~1FFB7C7~1PRESEN~1.DLL WindowsassemblyNATIVE~2.303SYSTEM~3.SER559EBA~1SYSTEM~1.DLL If this indicates something
Maybe I have to try with F8, when I restarts the computer for the first time after running the Code: BootRec .
When I start up Windows, I have two options, "Windows 7" and "Windows 7 Home Premium (Recovered)", and only the second one works. This is annoying because it defaults to the first entry.Some background info: I added a second hard drive to my laptop, and I used an Ubuntu install disc to move Windows 7 to the second hard drive and install Ubuntu to the first (larger) hard drive. When I start up my computer, the Grub boot loader gives me an option between Ubuntu Linux and Windows 7.When I first tried to boot into Windows, it had problems (caused by finding itself on a new drive I assume) and attempted to do startup repair which didn't change anything. It had detected a Windows 7 installed on drive "E", attempted repair, but on reboot I got to the same place. Next I used the Windows 7 Repair disc that I had burned earlier, which appeared to do the exact same process of attempting startup repair, however this time when I rebooted I got the option between "Windows 7" and "Windows 7 Home Premium (Recovered)". The first option causes it to do what it did before, and the second option gets me into Windows 7 fine. Windows still sees its hard drive as "C" which is good.While looking for solutions to this, I found the bcdedit utility. I attempted to rename "Windows 7 Home Premium (Recovered)" to just "Windows 7 Home Premium" to test whether it changed anything, but when I boot up I still get "Windows 7" and "Windows 7 Home Premium (Recovered)". I don't even know where the "Windows 7" entry comes from.
Here's the output of `bcdedit /v`:
Code: Windows Boot Manager -------------------- identifier {9dea862c-5cdd-4e70-acc1-f32b344d4795} device partition=C: path ootmgr description Windows Boot Manager locale en-US default {74e62c05-aa3f-11e1-90f0-e412b6135969}

Previously I have installed Windows XP then Windows 7 in different drives of my computer. Later installed Ubuntu 10.10 inside Windows 7 and upgraded it to 11.04.After that Accidentally I have formatted Windows XP drive from Ubuntu. I installed XP again to the same drive. I tried to repair Windows 7 and it worked fine, but the problem is I can boot only Windows 7. I have used BCDEdit tool to add entry to boot menu. This also worked fine that I am able to boot both Windows 7 & Windows XP.Now I want to boot Ubuntu 11.04 also using already installed partition.I don't want install it again(as I have to update it to 11.04 again).I have Windows XP in C drive, Windows 7 in D drive and Ubuntu 11.04 in E drive.
I am working on Samsung notebook with Intel atom processor (without DVD Rom). I installed antivirus and later restarted the machine. After the restarting it tells me "windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:
1. Insert your windows installation dics and restart your computer and other procedures 2. Chose your language settings and click nex 3. Click repair your computer"
If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance. File : ootBCD Status: 0xc0000098 The windows boot configuration data file does not contain a valid OS entry.
If you've been using Windows XP for a while now and want to try out window 7 or vista, you might have tried dual booting! In that case once you installed windows 7 or vista, you may have noticed that your windows XP entry has disappeared. But do not worry. Your windows XP is still there. The only problem is windows 7 just overwrote the windows xp bootloader. This is a easy fix. Just follow the steps below.
Open an elevated command prompt (Start > type "cmd" > right click on "cmd" > run as administrator)
To create an entry for Windows XP type the following. You can replace "windows XP" with any name that you want it to show. Code :bcdedit /create {ntldr} /d "Windows XP" Now specify the partition where windows XP is installed. Here I have used my E partition. Choose the partition (B, C, D, E, F) where you installed your XP. Code :bcdedit /set {ntldr} device partition=E: Now to set the path type... Code :bcdedit /set {ntldr} path tldr Type the following to add this boot loader to the boot up screen. Code :bcdedit /displayorder {ntldr} /addlast
Restart and you are done!
If for some reason you get an error and are unable to boot into windows XP, then get back into your windows 7 installation and download the boot files from [URL] and paste it in your WIndows XP partition's root directory. [URL]

A folder named "Favorite Bar" keeps appearing in my Favorite list even though I keep deleting it. Is there some way to remove it from the registry for good?
I have removed a program from my Win 7 HP SP1 64-bit system but its entry still appears in both Win Add/Remove and Revo Uninstaller. I have tried the technique suggested by just about every Google search return for the problem (regedit: HKLM...current version >> uninstall) but the program does not appear in that list.I have gone through the registry and removed every reference to the program I could find by expanding literally every branch in Current User, Local Machine and Users. The entry still remains.The problem it creates is that is is being used as a default program selection for opening more than a few file types and I would like to be rid of it.
Ive been using a hard disk with XP Pro installed first partition and Vista Ult installed second partition. Yesterday I installed Win 7 Home premium on first partition where XP was installed. During installation I deleted the first partition and created new one for the win 7 installation. Obviously XP is gone, dont care.
Win 7 is booting fine. Problem is I cant boot from Vista which is in second partition D. No vista entry on bootloader. PC boots from Win 7 straight away. I used easyBCD to add vista entry but no luck.
I have 2 HDs in my tower, 1 has windows 7, and 1 has server 2008 R2. I installed the server OS to play around with Hyper-V but enver did and I want to remove it to throw a linux distro on it. What's the easiest way to fix the boot record to reflect that server 2008 isn't there anymore?
Whenever I boot up my computer from a shutdown or a restart, the following error message comes up:"FAEnrollWiz.exe - Entry Point Not Found (Title of the window)The procedure entry point fgetRTLREADING could not be located in the dynamic link library FAConsIfDLL.dll."Only option shown is an OK button.Ran CHKDSK and a few other basic diagnostics, but I'm thinking it's a problem in the registry.
In doing this, the disk will not execute the set up and gives me this error message [error in syssetup.dll missing entry: UpdatePnpDeviceDrivers

I have the same problem on two seperate computers one was a fresh installation using a new hard drive and the other was a upgrade from vista. both 32 bit and both installed from the same installation cd.what is required is syssetup.dll patch for win7?
I'm using Firefox browser.I like the "autocomplete" which routinely fills in user name and password, but recently ran into a problem - on a rarely-used but important site (Doctor's surgery) I forgot my user name and password.Retrieved user name from surgery (which hasn't changed), BUT they gave me a temporary password Logged in - autocomplete filled it in after first character entered, as was a password BUT it isn't the "right" password - I now have to over-ride it every log-in.So - how does one edit the stored password for this site, alternatively, delete the whole existing entry and let it offer to remember it from new?
My dad's computer is failing for some reason. Originally, I had it running on 32 bit but after a couple of updates it failed to boot continuously even after a chkdsk and startup repair. So I formatted it two more times with both times eventually failing to boot again.I reformatted again, but this time using 64 bit. Now there is a entry point not found on startup at the desktop. If I try to run an application like Firefox, a form of entry point not found message shows up, and it won't run I have tried sfc /scannow in command prompt, and it said that some files were unable to be repaired. chkdsk didn't find anything wrong. Do you think it's a bad hard drive?

When I use cut-and-paste, it does not post the most recent cut or copy, instead it posts the one before that so I have to go back to the highlighted selection, click {cntrl][x] or [cntrl][c] again and then click [cntrl][v] again and it pastes the correct info.
