How To Add Registry Entry Under HKEY-USERS For Current User
Dec 15, 2011
How can I add a registry entry under HKEY_USERS for the current user? I already have the registry entry imported from my account, but my problem is it won't work with other accounts because we have different SID for HKEY_USERS.
My father replaced his Windows 98 machine with a new computer running Windows 7.He's currently on 32-bit ultimate, but we could change versions if needed. He's really hoping there's some way to force Windows 7 into a single user mode, primarily so C:usersAll Users, Default User, Public, and his own user are merged into one. It's absolutely driving him nuts the way it is.
I got admin rights to edit the registry (and I've edited it before), but I've never 'created' registry items.I need to create this item:Quote: [HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionPoliciesExplor er]"NoSaveSettings"=dword:00000001
clean up my disabled entries in MSCONFIG BUT there is no entry for it in the registry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftShared ToolsMSConfig on my desktop.there is on my laptop. When is MSCONFIG hiding these things? How do i get it back?
I have a packard Bell netbook and while it was starting up the other day I began to get a littl fed up of the anoyying vista bootscreen because of the 1024x600 display. Does anybody know if there is a registry entry and were it is so that I may be able to force it to display the windows 7 bootscreen?
The comp started BSOD'ing out of nowhere, a new adapter I think called ISATAP or something like that shows up under network adapters in device manager which had a yellow exclamation icon. (Code: 31). Disabling or uninstalling its drivers resulted in BSOD's. Googled around and found the only way to fix it was to delete some registry entries, so without backing up the registry I deleted some keys. I don't remember which keys but the image above is the result. I got Ubuntu live booted up and using it to post this because my Win 7 installation obviously can't connect to the Internet.
*I tried reinstalling drivers (Marvel Yukon & Belkin), disabling and enabling stuff but nothing seems to be happening.
*Got some registry fixing tools or whatever, still the same.
I built this machine a while back and I've had this appear a few times. I am the only one who uses the computer and as far as I know everything is set as administrator. These files were on an external USB drive and I was trying to open them from there. I checked permissions and it appears there is full access. However, editing within the permissions dialog boxes are not as that clear to me.
I have had MSPublisher 2007 for three months now with no issues at all but now every time I try to open a file that opens in MSPublisher 2007 I get the following error "Publisher Is Not Installed For Current User. Please Rerun The Setup." but it doesn't matter how many times I rerun the setup, I get that same error! I have no other users on my computer and I am the ONLY person who uses the computer that Publisher is currently installed on! I need to open a file in Publisher so I can make a "fan of the month" certificate for on of my Facebook fan pages. I am a week late on doing that certificate because I was locked out of Facebook for a week! but anyway no matter what I try, Publisher ALWAY gives the that error!
in the registry editor, where does it store the keys for where a users folder location is so say your Music is is D:<username>Music the registry has all these keys, I need to change them since something happened to one account...
I have a windows 7 pc and various users who use it. Each user that logs on creates a local profile ok. However when you logon with the admin account and open the registry editor and look under the HKEY_USERS key only the S-1-5-2xxxx entry is there for the admin account and the standard system entries but each key for every user that has logged onto the pc is not displayed.Under windows XP you where able to see entries for all users who had logged onto that pc. Has something changed with Windows 7 by design or is there something wrong with the installation/setup of this machine.
I am experiencing a problem with Micrsoft Word and Googled a solution which is to change the location of the Temporary Internet Files folder however, I can only get to a certain point. Here are the instructions:
This problem occurs because the Temporary Internet Files location for Internet Explorer is set to be an unexpected location. Specifically, the Temporary Internet Files location for Internet Explorer is set to be a location in which the user does not have permissions to create new temporary files.
ResolutionTo resolve this problem, change the Temporary Internet Files location for Intern...To resolve this problem, change the Temporary Internet Files location for Internet Explorer. To do this, follow these steps:
On the Tools menu in Internet Explorer, click Internet Options to display the Internet Options dialog box.
In the Internet Options dialog box, click the General tab.
In the Browsing history section, click Settings to open the Temporary Internet Files and History Settings dialog box.
In the Temporary Internet Files and History Settings dialog box, click Move Folder to open the Browse for Folder dialog box.
In the Browse for Folder dialog box, select the following location:
For Windows Vista, for Windows 7, and for Windows Server 2008: C:Users<user name>AppDataLocalMicrosoftWindows
For Windows XP and for earlier versions of Windows: C:Documents and Settings<user name>Local Setting
Note Whichever location you select, a folder that is called Temporary Interenet Files is created. And if it is necessary, content is migrated to the new location.
Click OK to close the Browse for Folder dialog box.
Click OK to close the Temporary Internet Files and History Settings dialog box.
Click OK to close the Internet Options dialog box.
Restart the computer when you are prompted. When I get to the Browse for Folder dialog box, I cannot find the "C:Users<user name>ApplDataLocalMicrosoftWindows" file that is referenced in order to proceed. Here is what I see: Gateway (C) When I double click on that, the following folders appear: Perf Log Program Files Program Files (X86) Users Windows When I click on "Users" then a folder with my name appears (which would be "user name". When I click on my name then it shows: Contacts Desktop My Documents Downloads Favorites etc; so how do I get to C:Users<user name>ApplDataLocalMicrosoftWindows? I have opened all of the folders such as program files, Windows etc; but cannot find a the files that I am instructed to scroll to. Any help is much appreciated.
It appears my regular Windows 7 account (a "super admin" account) is blocked from other users. When I try to access the user files from another Windows 7 account, or from my Windows 8 side, it does not let me access the files. Is there a way around this? I'm guessing its some tiny setting or something I have missed or overlooked.
I did a normal registry scan and there were some errors and I clicked to fix them. Now Action Center doesn't show in the task bar...So I search for it and click on it and it tells me that Windows Security Center service is turned off...I click on the button to turn it on and it tell me that it cannot start...I've been searching online for a solution to my problem and I have seen other posts about people having a similar problem...Going to services doesn't work for me...I'm assuming that since Winutilities removes random HKEYs, that might be my problem...Now, how do i get these HKEYS back?
i delete my user account which had viruses and created a new user but there were some saved documents which were in my local disk andi deleted them also without backing up that file.... pls how can i restore this user and copy out the files and downloads in the local disk
I have over 630 events logged in less than a year on my Win 7 Ultimate (64bit) which is basically turned one and off twice per day, all stating that my registry is leaking. Each shut down produces a 1530 event message like this below...Windows detected your registry file is still in use by other applications or services. The file will be unloaded now. The applications or services that hold your registry file may not function properly afterwards.Which is then followed by the number of leaks (from 3 to 45) but all relate to REGISTRYUSERS-1-5-21-2504074074-2207754458-538734185-1000. When I seach for this reference on the C: drive it returns me three Roaming folders under App Data. There is only one user on this machine (excluding the administrator). If there is a guest user, it doesn't show up - it boots right to my desktop.
I would like to set the default folder view to be set to details, and control panel view set to small icons. I would like this set for the default user profile. What the relevant registry entries are ?
I've unistalled Amd Driver from Device Manager, Unistalled Catalyst software and ran Driver Sweeper. There is only 3 registeries that the Driver Sweeper CAN'T delete and these are under SYSTEM folder. I've tried to change user privilegies but this far I've not succeeded.
While windows was uploading some updates yesterday, I cleaned my registry using Iolo's system mechanic tool and that's where the problems started. (I already read and understood your message: don't use those tools and stay out of your registry. A lesson I learned too late, unfortunately.)My computer rebooted and after a couple of minutes I noticed the message: " failure configuring windows features reverting changes ". I managed to bypass this loop by running in safe mode and recover my computer to a restore point in the past. This only worked partially: I get windows to run in normal mode but I get this message: "system failed while restoring the registry from the restore point. Restore point damaged or was deleted during restore". So it didn't restore but I can get into my windows now.So I don't get the 'reverting change loop' anymore, so I can access my computer but what's the mess? Well my computer is slow as hell.Like mentioned above, I already looked around on this forum and wrote down what I already tried. [code] My computer is terrible slow because of a registry defrag/optimization of a registry tool (in combination with windows update) --> I need to find a way to get back my old registry files but system recovery ain't working.
I just installed a new 64 gig SSD in my computer. I also have a 2T secondary hard drive. The SSD is not big enough to contain all the stuff that will eventually be in "My documents",i.e. under "users" so I need to move the users directory to my secondary hard drive but havewindows behave as it were in its original location.I did some research and found the following technique which seemed plausible (and several people said it worked for them)
1. Install windows normally. 2. After install, boot from installation disk. 3. Get into the command prompt by clicking "repair". 4. Use robocopy to copy c:users to d:users. The command line should be: robocopy c:users d:users /mir /xj /copyall 5. Verify all files copied successfully. 6. Delete c:users. Command line should be: rmdir /s /q c:users 7. Delete c:documents and settings. Command line should be: rmdir "c:documents and settings" 8. Create junction to new users directory. Command line should be: mklink /j c:users d:users 9. Create junction for the old "documents and settings". Command line should be: mkdir /j "c:documents and settings" d:users 10. Restart computer.
Note:When in recovery mode the disk drives end up with different drive letters than what the normally have.Consequently my SSD drive which is "C" became "E" and my hard drive which is "D" became "C". Confusing, but I adjusted the above commands to reflect this. All seemed to go well until I rebooted. The computer booted up fine, but when I entered my password to log in windows complained that it could not find my profile. Since I could not log in at all I was forced to re-install windows. Supposedly, this is doable and I NEED to do it asap as my SSD will not hold all the stuff that will eventually be in "users".
I am cleaning a laptop out and i created a brand new user name. I deleted the other 2 users using the control passwords2.
So the machine starts and i select the user. Process usage is very high and it says 50, but actual user shows about 9. I click show processes from all users and i find the culprit as well as 50 processes. I deleted the users so there shouldnt be that option.
Why is there more processes if this is the only user, why does it even have the option?
I will if I have to manually delete them, although I'm not sure what other files may still be around on my drive that are located in Users/All Users that are redundant any recommended programs that I could depend on for this task ?
the 'new thread message has opened up'. win7 HP:What Printer-driver-version am I running?I am able to find Device-Manager ok,But can't find an entry for the Printer.
A folder named "Favorite Bar" keeps appearing in my Favorite list even though I keep deleting it. Is there some way to remove it from the registry for good?
I have removed a program from my Win 7 HP SP1 64-bit system but its entry still appears in both Win Add/Remove and Revo Uninstaller. I have tried the technique suggested by just about every Google search return for the problem (regedit: HKLM...current version >> uninstall) but the program does not appear in that list.I have gone through the registry and removed every reference to the program I could find by expanding literally every branch in Current User, Local Machine and Users. The entry still remains. The problem it creates is that is is being used as a default program selection for opening more than a few file types and I would like to be rid of it.
Ive been using a hard disk with XP Pro installed first partition and Vista Ult installed second partition. Yesterday I installed Win 7 Home premium on first partition where XP was installed. During installation I deleted the first partition and created new one for the win 7 installation. Obviously XP is gone, dont care.
Win 7 is booting fine. Problem is I cant boot from Vista which is in second partition D. No vista entry on bootloader. PC boots from Win 7 straight away. I used easyBCD to add vista entry but no luck.
I have 2 HDs in my tower, 1 has windows 7, and 1 has server 2008 R2. I installed the server OS to play around with Hyper-V but enver did and I want to remove it to throw a linux distro on it. What's the easiest way to fix the boot record to reflect that server 2008 isn't there anymore?
Whenever I boot up my computer from a shutdown or a restart, the following error message comes up:"FAEnrollWiz.exe - Entry Point Not Found (Title of the window)The procedure entry point fgetRTLREADING could not be located in the dynamic link library FAConsIfDLL.dll."Only option shown is an OK button.Ran CHKDSK and a few other basic diagnostics, but I'm thinking it's a problem in the registry.
