I had encrypted my C drive with bitlocker. It worked fine for 5 months. After 5 months it was giving problems, so I took help from brother which suggested to reimage the machine with Windows 7.I did the same, however during installation of Win7 it showed drive C and Drive D. I deleted the Drive C and its gone, tried to refresh the windows however still was not there, so now installed Win7 on only remaining drive.I had 500 GB of hard disk divided in 2 partitions. Now I only see 224 GB in My Computer.I don't want to recover my data from encrypted drive; however I need that space of 250 GB.
I changed my motherboard and disconnected all of my drives apart from the one I thought was my C drive. Alas it was not and had some very important folders in it.I started to install windows and got to the drive option and formatted it and as soon as I had I realised which drive it was. I did not go any further with the installation so nothing has written over it.Can anyone advise what my options are if any to recover this drive?

basically the other day I manged to accidentally quick format my 2TB storage drive. After using some software to see what files I could recover I saw that it found a 150Mb $MFT file. Seeing as all the files are now nameless and will be a heck of a job to get back in working order is it possible to just put the previous $MFT file back on the drive so it actually knows where the data is located.
I want to recover my data after I Had formatted the computer .first Ithe desk was four partitions after that it became one partition. which is the best programme to recover the old data

I have a fully legal, licensed, paid for etc. version of xp.
I really want to format my hard drives (completely)....my question is:
do I need to re-install my xp, get all the updates (SP2, 3, etc.) before running a clean install of Windows 7 Upgrade Version? Or can I start right from the Windows 7 disc and use my xp key/disc if required?
I know I could do this when going from '95 to xp (yes I'm old).
I hooked up a a mac formated drive to my pc. It didnt show up. so I went to disk manager and looked at it in there once. a option box came up listing something about a boot drive or GUID. I picked GUID and down the drive still has the info on it but will not show allow ascces on pc or mac.
I formatted my C: (win 7 64 bit os), bt on d way realized that my most imp data was kept hidden under C:UsersPrashant , but couldn't help stopping the format.
Now, since the C: drive is formatted , I can't access C:UsersPrashant , so is there any way to recover back my "mostttt imp data"..
I was working with two drives and mixed them up on a format. What is on the drive isn't essential, but it would be nice to see what was lost, so I can go from there. Can anyone recommend a way to get it back? It just happened and I haven't put anything else on the drive since it happened. Hit Quick Format, and stopped the formatting about 10 seconds into it, sucks
While i was formatting my LG 2.5" External HDD HXDS 320GB the power went out. The result is that I cannot use it because Windows want me to format it and it cannot be formatted.
Have formatted this disc 2x and still get Bootmgr missing error, wont take a new install of an OS. Originally had windows 7, have key but no install disc for that, tried installing XP and could not get to bios?
1. Is it a bad hard drive?
2. Is it in the motherboard?
Is there action I can do? Pc will only allow for ctr. alt del which gets you back to square one again?
I have a problem for a Mac formatted WD My Passport external drive. PC recognizes the WD Smartware part of the disk but not the data. I want to reformat the whole drive to Windows 7, but I can't see any options to do that.
I have had no trouble in the past setting up permissions on a NTFS formatted USB drive using XP. I am able to set everyone to have only read access and myself to have full rights. The process is as follows:
- Remove all from the list except everyone. - add myself as a user with full control. - Go to advanced options for everyone and disable write access, and enable read access. - Deny takes over allow, so that's all good. - Eject USB everyone's happy .
In Windows 7 this is not the case, after formatting the USB to NTFS and going to permissions, that is where the problems start. At first the only group that has permissions as default is everyone, if I change any of these permissions I get access denied even though I am the owner because I formatted the drive. So I ignore and continue to add myself as full control. I get access denied! I then move on to making it so that everyone has read access but no write access. again access denied! What is the same process ins XP is not the same in 7, why?
It seems every time I make an amend to a permission in 7 is says access denied even though I am the admin and the owner. Tried this also on the hidden admin account and I still have the same problem. My guess is in windows 7 everyone actually means everyone, including admin and myself, so even though adding myself as an additional user it still wont allow, unlike XP where adding a user seems to overwrite everyone.
I have a 1tb external hard disk which was working fine till yesterday. It fell down last week. After that, I transferred two files (total of 25gb) from my laptop into the external hard disk yesterday. The problem started after that. When, I tried to open any of all the files (a total of 11 including the two I transferred yesterday), it's suggesting to be formatted. The external hard drive is recognized in the disk manager to be healthy. Currently, I have turned the Easeus Recovery software on, it's showing 12 hours to be completed.
I have a 1.5TB Seagate ext HD that is formatted as MS-DOS (FAT), this was formatted on my iMac. The Mac internal HD has completely crashed. I attached the ext HD to my Toshiba Satellite laptop, the ext HD does not show in the drive list. It does show in the device manager. It also shows as working properly in the properties menu I need files from this drive. How do I get my Windows 7 system to read the ext usb drive?
I am trying to access my wife's macbook hard drive via my Windows computer using the Vantec SATA/IDE to USB 2.0 Adapter. The Apple techs said they could not get the drive to register when they hooked it up. However, we gave it a good drying with blow dryerThe adapter works fine and all the correct drivers installedI am in disk management and the 250GB drive seems to be showing up. However, it is not showing up in My Computer and right click shows "assign a letter" is grayed out.
