Windows 7 home premium pretty sure it is an X64 Randomly shuts OFF not DOWN, then when upon restart (manually pushing the power button) it opens like normal put my login password in and it opens fine then reopens the last program running automatically.
View 9 RepliesMy computer gets at least ONCE BSOD every time I turn it on after a long period of shutdown. It also sometimes randomly just shuts off or give me additional BSODs. It has got to the point that I can't even load to windows recently, which lead me to reformat my computer. I know the drivers here are not the latest ones, I am trying to use only the drivers from the CDs that came with the hardwares because the last time I used all the latest ones it still caused BSODs. I am not sure what other information I need to post up.

I use my PC for audio production and I have a few external controller devices that are USB powered, for example a midi keyboard. I recently had to build PC due to a theft....long story short after building the new PC I've noticed that my USB buses have continual power to these external devices after I've powered down the PC. My old windows 7 PC did not do this. Is there a setting I can change to shut off power to the USB buses when I power off the PC? Or is this a hardware issue?

(I had 8 of them 3 days ago.)I assume I have a hardware problem, but nothing has been found and I'm grasping at straws.The time between power off and power on is several seconds.I had assumed this rules out a software cause, but maybe I'm wrong. I know Windows can schedule a power off, but can it tell BIOS (or something) to power back on in a few seconds?I know blaming the power supply is a much more simple explanation, but then I'm left with explaining the intermittent nature of the failure.
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy computer will not shut down with the "shut down" command. It goes to a screen with message "shutting down" then just sits there. I need to power off manually to shut it down. Once I reboot I can then shut down properly. But after some time of normal use I can't shut down. Are oine or more of my programs leaving some residual piece in place that doesn't stop when I close the program?

Laptop will not turn off when I tell it to shut down. The operating system seems to shut down, but the computer itself stays on (case lights and fan are still active) and can only be turned off by holding the power button for 4 seconds. I have tried everything short of re-installing the OS - which I cannot do because of the non-transferable programs I have on this laptop. It is a Dell Vostro 3450 running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.

It had been having problems before this shutting down but they were not this bad. I can't play games or anything like i said memory intense.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm not sure what's happening but I have a feeling it's either Win 7 or a hard drive about to fail. Starting this morning I had a lock up of my PC which I then had to turn off the power to the PC and then restart it. I started getting the "reboot and select proper boot device" prompt which with past computers has meant a hard drive was dying. I'll power it off again and it'll boot normally into Win 7. I will leave my PC on and then after 20+ minutes, it will reset and the prompt will come up again. Now my main concern is that I don't know which HD could be failing. I have a 120 GB SSD as well as 1 TB HD.

my computer randomly shuts off while running games. First noticed while experimenting with Aion, a few days later it also occurs with Star Wars: The Old Republic, something it hadn't done before. The program files don't include any duplicate files (which I thought may be a problem. Aion did have a duplicate initially, and the deletion of this file appeared to fix the problem, though it returned the next day. Further research has indicated that the CPU maybe overheating, or the the PSU is failing. I'm not "techy" enough to know if it is the PSU, when the computer shuts down, there is no warning, just a black screen and then the keyboard lights and fans stop running roughly 5s afterwards.

Almosi every day 3 or 4 times a day i would get a completely blank dislplay and then the machine would shut down. There were no critical errors that i could find.So i installed Ubuntu 12.04 on the same machine with no changes at all. Ubuntu 12.04 is very resource intensive. After 48 hours of running not one crash , blank screen, or any other major problem.I had the same windows 7 problem on my self built and the dell gx280 i had it installed on. Same problem completely different machines.I do not think i will be going back to windows , as the experience stated above explains windows 7 is still in need of a lot of development work. When i ran win95 second edition was the last time i have experiences with windows like i have had with windows 7.

View 11 Replies View RelatedAlright so a couple months ago my computer crashed and I was told it was a hard drive problem. So I got a new hard drive and installed it myself reinstalling windows and everything else. After a bout a week my computer would randomly shut off the screens image would become jumbled with dark lines running horizontally across and then it would either shut off or give me the BSOD. The BSOD flashes fast so I can't write down any information from it. This has happened repeatedly for about 3 months since every couple days. Usually I leave my laptop alone for about 15 min and then I can start it up again. The problem seems to happen mostly when i watch videos or go on sites with a lot of media going on. I think I've installed all the drivers i need to. I'm hoping it is not a hardware problem because i just bought this hard drive. I never had this problem before when i had the old hard drive. If any one could give me some help that would be awesome. I also ran check disk and it came up with nothing. My laptop is an HP G72 Notebook running windows 7. Hard drive is a western digital 250 gb.

I haven't exactly been keeping track of the error codes as of late, but I know I've seen 3 different ones in the past week or so. I believe after posting this I'll edit and update with the codes I get, but I can't offer much help now.As for the scenario, this mostly happens when I'm playing a game for a while; or when viewing full screen video for extended periods of time. The computer restarts, I boot Windows normally, and I'm greeted with a Windows Recovered from a Critical Event or something like that. When I click find solution, it searches for a while and replies that there are no fixes. It might just be me but I feel like it happens more often when the room temp is higher, and when I hear the fans spinning more. I'm thinking it's either overheating or my PSU isn't up to par with the rest of my system.I checked event viewer and I've got 17 occurrences of this in the past 2 months. I'm really worried my components might start to feel the effects of this if they haven't already.The only thing I've been able to find on the net with some substance is this, but I haven't been able to really find use for this as the directions aren't very clear.[url]...If it helps more to see the individual events in friendly or XML view just let me know and I'll post them, I just don't want to spam up a thread with a bunch of garble if it's not necessary.

I've got randomly occouring BSODs on my Dell XPS 9000. The BSOD is always a driver power state failure. My system is ~3 years old. Running a 2 year old Win 7 Ultimate x64 image.

All parts are new except: SSD, HDD, and PSU.
PC would reboot itself randomly and the event viewer says kernel-power event 41 task 63. My biggest hunch is the PSU because there was one time just after I built the PC, it would not turn on when power button was pressed. MOBO status light was lit. Tried shorting out the actual power pins on the MOBO but still did not turn it on. It would also sometimes turn on then off then on again by itself.
Also whenever I'm in CMOS setup, the various voltages seem to be unstable, it would go up and down by +/- .002 or something like that.
Because of those two points plus the PSU is already used and old (was prev used in a server which ran 24/7) I reckon it's the PSU. But before I go buying a new PSU, I thought I'd get your opinions.
I seem to be having crashes on my laptop as of recent, but the patterns they follow are very strange. It's almost like i'm getting a BSOD while it being used, but instead the screen just go black and all power cuts. It then reboots and starts up as usual. As far as I can tell there is no conflicting software causing this, and it happens without any pattern. Since there is no Blue Screen, I cannot give a dump file. However, on the even viewer, I see an event labeled under the critical category. Now this seems like the CPU or other internal component is overheating, But when i look at HWMonitor Pro, the CPU stays under a steady 84C under load and 60C idle. This happens in a range of occasions such as rendering videos with Handbrake to simply browsing the web. I will say this, I recently swapped out my RAM cards because the OEM one's were causing BSOD's about a month ago. If you'd like more specific information on the laptop, visit my old thread.

Currently this happens with this game only. I do not know much about computers but I noticed the event viewer says kernel-power event 41. The PC is brand new month old. i've tried to set the option for pressing the power button to 'Do Nothing' so no body can shut the computer, and yet it shuts down by pressing the button, so why is that and how can i work this out?

Now today, the other crashes started, with the first happening out of nowhere, the second happening upon starting a video game. I've been without crashes for a while now, only having used my browser(Opera) and copying some files to an external hard drive. As well as the SF tool.I only have 2 dump files available. View 3 Replies View RelatedI reformatted my computer multiple times, yet my computer seems to BSOD randomly.What happenes is that everything becomes unresponsive; cant alt+tab, cant ctrl+alt+del etc etc. everything freezes randomly... then boom, BSOD. its happened twice, with no apparent pattern.And then, when it restarts, it tries booting but then it goes into the boot selection screen and my SSD is nowhere to be found. I have to power off then power on again for it to boot up and log in.

My computer wouldn't shut down, even with holding in the power button, and so I just let it run out the battery. Then it wont turn on. I tried holding down the power button to clear out any charge that might be remaining. I have managed to get it back on, but I have to make a connection at the clip where you plug the power button ribbon into the mobo. Also, this is the second time I have had to do this. The computer works fine afterwards...or seems to anyway.

Its also making loud pitch noises. That just started happening. I called tech support and they told me it was probably just the power supply.
