I've been hosting servers on various videogames over the year to play with my friends online, recently I tried a game which worked about a month or so ago (mount and blade: warband, I also tried a few others afterwards) but nobody could connect, I checked everything and it should have been working fine but then I looked at various port checking websites and for some reason none of the ports are open anymore.
I've tried changing the port settings, resetting the router and disabling my firewall and none of them seem to work.
When i try to connect my wireless mouse to my laptop it dosnt respond at all. It says it is connected, however nothing works. Ive tried using a Flashdrive and it works fine. Ive also tried with 3 different mice with the same result. Im guessing it has to do with a driver i have recently downloaded from windows update, however, i have restored my computer as far back as i can go, and it still dosnt work.
I was away on a trip, so I let my parents use my laptop while I was gone. They say it updated, something, but afterwards froze, so they turned it off. Turns out it was several different updates, including a BIOS update. Everything else works fine except for my usb ports which no longer detect anything connected to them. The device manager gives me little yellow warning bubbles by Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller and Standard OpenHCD USB Host Controller. It says code 19 error and the config info in the registry is missing or damaged. I have tried updating the drivers, uninstalling and letting it re-install, but it hasn't worked. I'm running on a HP Pavilion dv6-3013cl Entertainment notebook, Windows 7 (64bit).
dell xps gen 4 running windows 7 (32 Bit)after downloading the latest windows updates, front and back USB ports no longer recognize the USB devices that were plugged in before. The usb device drivers no longer automatically load. usb ports recognize unknown device but device does not function (USB wireless Keyboard/ mouse or external hard drive) I deleted last few updates, re-booted computer and still get same result.
I cant open my ports. My router has DMZ enabled and I have disabled windows 7 firewall and disabled the firewall in ESET Smart Security 4. PORTS STILL WONT OPEN!
I just installed Windows 7 tonight and thus have moved from the Vista forums to here
But of course if everything were going smoothly I wouldn't be here. Now here's my problem, I'm trying to open ports for some of my programs but I havn't been able to. I've done it many times before in Vista with no trouble. I've tried disabling the firewall to see if that worked but it didn't.
Now here's where it gets weird. When I was in Vista I'd use Open Port Check Tool to check if my ports were opened correctly, it always worked. But now when I try it it tells me that my ports are closed, even basic ports like 80 and 21 keep getting:
Error: I could not see your service on 76.68.106.153 on port (80)
So, i've been hosting games for a while but i don't know what happened, after i try to port forward router ports they just won't open :O. Yeh, as i go to Open Port Check Tool it says ''Error: I could not see your service on 62.**.***.*** on port (*****)Reason: Connection timed out''?
So I have started to use windows7 RC and it's build in firewall. Until now i was on win xp with eset firewall. Everything is ok so far except two things:
1.) There doesn't seem to be anything like learning mode for Windows 7 firewall, or is there? How em I supposed to make a rule for application if I don't know what port it needs to open? I know, one can use google, but this can get pretty annoying after a while. Log file also doesn't help much because it doesn't list application names. Is there some kind of 3rd party simple app which would monitor attepts for connection and tell me which port a specific application just tried to use so i could make a rule in windows firewall?
2.) It seems that Windows 7 firewall is creating inbound rules automatically (at least for local applications), can i turn this behavior off?
why I cannot open ports correctly in Windows 7, but in XP I had no issues. If someone has the time..please contact me. I have tried reading, watching videos...
For the past 3 days Ive been trying to open up ports in my router (Siemens sx763) with no luck. Ive done all the port forwarding correctly but when i check the port from a website it say my port is blocked. I use a wireless connection. I think ive done my other router/connections/ip settings wrong but im not sure what it is.

There is a lot of noise, amongst not in particularly, high-power users, but also simple home or office users about open ports, net, web ports, being used, either from Windows itself or applications. DCOM is an example of a Windows service, that is "listening" to the net,but also sends data through out it. Skype does that all the time. What about those open ports, can they be "closed'? Should they be closed, for safety reasons, not to allow to be used by malware, spyware, hackware?
a friend was burning movies to DVD that I downloaded from bit torrent and ever since I am unable to open any compressed files-zip, avi, ect. My laptop was re-furbished by Gateway so it did not come w/ OS disc to re-install anything. I have Windows7 home premium 64bit & am not very knowledgeable about computers.
I have a problem on my Windows7 laptop when clicking on internet shortcut links..When I try to opening a link, Windows no longer knows what to open it with and tries defaulting to MS Word. I've tried selecting in the usual way and ticking the box to have either IE or Firefox to open them, but it just won't work.
I googled how to open ports and it told me go in to windows firewall>advanced setting>new rule etc. I want to install a game so I need certain ports to be open and unrestricted. When I used online port checker sites they all say the required ports aren't open
I am using Windows 7 on my desktop and laptop. At the end of each week I run Malwarebytes and Superantispyware.I can no longer open Windows Defender unless it has an icon with a castle and blue flag? Microsoft security essentials is running and it says Real time protection on Virus and spyware definitions up to date.Is that enough protection or should I be running another anti virus program?
Hadn't opened Media Center for awhile, though the last time I did, everything worked fine. Internet TV Program Guide now lists some new Classic shows and I thought it would be cool to watch some old I Love Lucy... but nothing. And no other show opened either. Not one. Click on it and it makes that sound... but then nothing happens. Its not crucial, I can live without old reruns of I Love Lucy, but it bugs me that the program is not working as it should.I already re- ran set-up again 3 times. I read in some other thread about TunerFree MCE and I downloaded that, and it works fine. (Now I have access to hundreds of shows from all over the world I'll probably never watch!) But it obviously does not fix my problem. Most of the shows that are supposed to be available in the Program Guide I'm not even interested, but all of them used to open easily, no problem. So I'd like to be able to watch the ones I want.I have not tried to re-install Windows 7. Wasn't the hassle if I screwed something up. But I did update Silverlight, and that didn't do anything either.
Also, I no longer even have an icon for Internet TV, and I swear I did! Now there's just Recorded TV and Program Guide. I download anything I want to watch, either hours or days after it airs, so I don't have cable or any TV service, nor a TV tuner in my laptop. But downloading is time consuming, and takes up room on my hard drive, if I don't watch things right away, so I would love to be able to access Internet TV.There also used to be an whole section of documentaries that aren't there any more. I did already watch most of them, and I loved them. But that entire section is gone now. I think it might have been in Extras Gallery, but I'm not sure. All new weird stuff that also won't open is in there now.
I can no longer "Open With" (Program X) multiple files, as in the option doesn't even exist when you right-click a file. I noticed when I was clicking several jpgs to open in Photoshop, where my default viewer is Google's Picasa (for ease of viewing and convenience). The strange thing is that I can still "Open With" individual files. I thought maybe it was just a Photoshop goof but it applies to Mp3s/Winamp and AVIs as well. This is very inconvenient!
A few days ago I installed a USB 3.0 card (to be precise, this one: 2-Port USB 3.0 SuperSpeed PCI-E Controller Card - Free Shipping - DealExtreme). It uses the very common NEC PD720200 USB 3.0 controller. I installed the required drivers for Windows 7, and the card worked fine for the first day or so. but not since. Whenever I plug in a USB 3.0 external hard drive, I get a false "This device can perform faster..." message, as if I had plugged the drive in a USB 2.0 port.
The external drive I am using is a Western Digital MyBook Essential 1130. It is definitely a USB 3.0 drive, and came with the required USB 3.0 cable. While the USB 3.0 card was working, I got full-speed transfers to the limit of the hard drive's ability, about 90-100 MB/s. Now I can only get USB 2.0 speeds (33-34 MB/s). Windows insists I have the drive plugged into a USB 2.0 port even though it is plugged directly into the USB 3.0 card.
Things I tried so far: -rebooting and complete power cycle. No difference. -plugging the drive into one port or the other. Also no difference. -Looked in Device manager. The controller is recognized as a USB 3.0 device is using the proper NEC drivers.
Other info that may be important:
-No overclocking settings in use.
-I made sure the cable was plugged in all the way. It's in as far as it can go, but the ports will still only act like USB 2.0 ports.
I might as well throw the card away if it is only going to act as a USB 2.0 device.
I recently bought a USB to RS232 adapter (it works fine). My question is: How can find out which com port it is using, except by trying all of them and then finding the one that works. I have a older Thunderbird GPS 10 MHz frequency standard thet requires a RS232 interface to talk to it (for setup purposes). The first thing it askes me is which com port I'm using(1-16).
My USB ports on this Gigabyte mobo are SUPPOSED to be all USB2.0
So, how come I still get "This device can run faster" messages in
my Windows 7 64 bit home premium installation?? I went to Gigabytes webpage and installed the chipset drivers for Windows 7 on there, but still get the same message when I plug in my Corsair 4GB jumpdrive.
System - Dell Inspiron 546, Windows 7 Home Premium x86 64 bit.
I'm an Engineer/Designer/Machinist and work with CAD/CAM programming. After I create the programs with the toolpaths for my CNC Macining Center I use a separate program to transfer the machine control data to the CNC.
Here is my dilemma - Win 7 is not compatable with the old 16 or 32 bit, file transfer program I had been using with XP and Vista. I have found 64 bit programs that are compatible but cannot get the computer and CNC to communicate.
The problem I'm having is, in the file transfer software I need to set the Parameters such a Comm Port, Baud Rate, etc. I cannot determine the port assignment for the usb connections. In XP and Vista they were Comm 4 and I could find that in Device Manager/Ports. Win 7 doesn't seem to have a listing for ports. How do I determine this.
I have five USB 2.0 hub successfully operating over 20 devices. As these fail I will upgrade to 3.0. Anticipating more 3.0 devices and a 3.0 motherboard in the future. Why do they only have four ports? If I am mixing 2.0 hub with 3.0 hub's should I plug in. In a certain order
So I installed some weird file and it like disabled ALL of my USB ports, hwo can I get them to work again?! Both my keyboard and mouse are USB and I don't have any regular ones, any way I can fix this through my 2nd partition using WinXP? im using the Win XP partition to ask this right now, my Win7 partition seems to run fine like when it happened I thought it froze but it didn't because the wifi signal went off from my USB wireless adapter and my mouse+keyboard adapter both light off as well as my DVC 80 capture device. The file I ran was 'libusb-win32-filter-bin-0.1.12.2.exe' from a package I downloaded in a zip called 'iHackintosh iRecovery Package for Windows & Mac' and I REALLY DONT want to restart my computer
I restarted my computer to return to the login screen and found i have no control of my mouse or keyboard.I have control before Windows loads (in Bios Settings).I have enabled and disabled in every combination possible for the settings of the USB in Bios Settings.I can not system restore. I have no control in safe mode.Basically if it deals with windows, i have no control. Only before windows loads.
I noticed recently that for some reason,my USB ports aren't being identified as 2.0 ports, but I know they are. My computer is an ASUS CG5270, Specs: Core 2 Quad @ 2.4 GHZ,8 gigs ram, 750GB hard drive. I tried going into the device manager and uninstalling everything under "USB", and then restarting and replugging everything in..no luck. I found some Fix for Windows 7 SP1...no luck. Whenever I go into the Device Manager, there are two ports ( I think they're ports) listed as "Enhanced", with the rest as "Universal". I keep getting errors when I plug in my external HD that "this device could perform faster". (I also get another message telling me that the drive needs to be formatted, but it works anyway). I also get a "this device could perform faster" with my webcam, as well...
When I plug a USB device into my laptop it doesn't recognize it Shown Here: Rec008.avi - download now for free. File sharing. Software file sharing. Free file hosting. File upload.
first of all i would like to excuse for my rusty english... passed some time since i last wrote something completely in english ;-)
i'm using the x86 version of build 7000 and i'm very fascinated of how it works already in this beta-stage. but i have a strange crashing-issue from time to time that does not allow me further testing.
from time to time all of my usb-ports seem to block everything: my usb-soundcard stops working, my wireless-adapter, my external hd, everything that's plugged-in into an usb-port stops working.
it happens when i'm using my soundcard, videocard or both of them: playing games, watching dvds, browsing Internet, listening to music, etc.
when i'm trying to reboot, the os will stuck in the logging-off-screen 'cause it's trying to play the logoff-sound over my soundcard..
On my Dell Vostro laptop, Up until today I never had a problem but now when I plug in my energy monitor to a USB port I do.. I have a mouse plugged in one port. If I plug in my energy monitor into any of the other 3 USB ports it installs a USB to serial port at the next higher com number. Its up to com 18 now. If I unplug and replug it in again it will find USB to serial com 19. It just keeps going up. How can I reset it back to 3 or 4.
I want to disable some of the USB ports in my W7U-64bit Ultimate system.Normally I do this by viewing in HWINFO64.The after in DeviceManager to uninstall the wanted USB ports. But now I cannot see the adresses in HWINFO64 nor in DM.
