I am using windows 7 professional 32bit. I have my pendrive named 'jerry' . when i connect any pendrive to my computer it gets renamed automatically to 'JERRY'. I dont know why this happens .
these randomly named folders? These folders show up at the whim of Windows and require additional security to access the subfolder which is empty. This is an HP G72 laptop with an Intel I3 processor so the amd64 name is very misleading. L:8a98f4a55a320d4390f197amd64 L:c82aba78a037e47cfbamd64
When I start my PC it shows a message that "your file named NTFS is corrupt". Then PC screen becomes Blue and shutdown my PC! Should I change my hard drive?
I can't seem to find any working solution to properly install named Soundcard under Windows 7/64. I know its a driver problem on behalf of the Souncard manufacturer. Can Microsoft not make a generic driver to fix this? The chipset used on this Terratec is a commonly used soundcard chipset if I'm not mistaken. Surely MS can conjure up a driver that will work and not let my Soundcard crash the whole PC just bc I want to listen to some music?
I've found threads that were similiar, but the suggested solutions are not working for me. What screenshots and information do youdetermine why I can't get 7 to even see that there's a named network it's connected to?
There is folder named Shredder on desktop, I can't delete it and i can't open it. I was trying with BT4 live cd and I didn't even saw it on my desktop through it, also tried bunch of different programs but still nothing. How could I erase it? I tried from safe mode, and I couldn't delete it.
From somewhere, somehow, a folder named "24cd9e4542d29590bce925ec30" has been created in my W7x86pro root dir. Trying to look inside, I had to "permanently get access". But then inside it, there are a whole lot of folders named things like 1025, 1028, 1029, etc, ending with 3076, and 3082. What's in those folders, I have no idea, since every time I try to open one, I first get the "You don't currently have permission to access this folder" dialog, and then when I click Continue, I get "You have been denied permission to access this folder".
Also inside the "24cd9e4542d29590bce925ec30" folder, there are files, like "Setup.exe" and "NDP40-KB2473228.msp" and "SetupEngine.dll" and some *.bmp and some other files. I guess that NDP40-KB2473228.msp gives away that this folder has something to do with some .NET framework update, but AFAIK, there's no .NET-anything installed on this computer. I want to remove the "24cd9e4542d29590bce925ec30" folder, but there seems to be no way I can get permission to do that. trying to get ownership or set access rights, all I get is "Access denied" or similar.
1. What those folders and files are doing there? 2. How do I remove them?
I have my Windows update settings to "notify but do not download." When I check my history of restore points I see that there are several created anyway with the description "Windows Update-Critical Update." I checked one of them for changes to programs and drivers and the were none. This seems to happening about every 3 days. Is this just an automatic update that is mislabeled? And why every three days - from my research it appears recovery points are supposedly scheduled every seven days?
just got myself a 16GB Kingston Drive and what i want to do is put 2 or more bootable images on there create my own boot menu so i can choose what to use when i need it.
How can I get Windows 7 to name copied files using the scheme "Copy of" (used in Windows XP and earlier) instead of the default scheme "- Copy", whenever a file is copied to the same directory as the original file?In other words, if you copy a file named "Foo.txt" in a directory to the same directory, Windows XP would have named that file "Copy of Foo.txt", but Windows 7 names the file "Foo - Copy.txt". I want the copy to be named "Copy of Foo.txt".There are several reasons why I prefer the XP style file name:
1. It is familiar :-)
2. I have existing files that use the XP style file names, and I want all my file copies to use the same naming scheme. I guess I can do a massive file rename across all my backups, but that would solve only one of my problems.
3. Most of my folders are sorted by name, and using XP style would sort all copies together. On other forums it has been suggested that one can simply sort by date (to get the copies sorted together), but that advice assumes that all copies are created after all other files are created, which is actually not often the case.
4. I often work with long file names, which means that the end of the file name is often obscured, unless I have wide windows (not always possible) and use lots of horizontal scrolling every time I want to select a file. Hovering over a file to get its full name is a cumbersome solution.
5. On other forums some have given the advice to always make copies in subfolders, but I often make copies or copies of copies while I work (it allows me to roll back or to check earlier versions of a file quickly, during my work), and using subfolders would slow me down tremendously (not to mention confuse me).
I know that when TeraCopy is made the copy handler, it renames files in a different way than Windows 7 does, though unfortunately not the way Windows XP did it. Also, if one installs a third-party directory program such as Opus, it asks for a file name every time a copy is made, but I need something that simply names the file correctly immediately.
My old C drive wouldn't boot and I thought it was failing. I installed a new SSD I had and put Windows 7 on it. Now the new drive is C which is causing all of the files on the old C drive to be unusable do to bad path name.
I copied some files from a DVD that was having some reading errors to my pendrive. Somehow, a few files have strange characters at the end of the file name. I cannot rename or erase this files from my pendrive. Each time I try, I have this error message: "The file name you specified is not valid or too long. Specify a different name."
I am usubg Windows 7 home basic.I am trying to copy some folders from my pen drive to desktop.I have some problems while doing this task.1.It ask permission each time while copying the folder.( What settign have to made so it should not ask.)2.from recent time I unbale to see folders of pendrive. If I search by folder name in that pendrive then it shows but,I open pendrive normally it doesnt shows folders ( just shows the file. )Now same problem occurs while I am opning that pend drive on another machine where I have installed XP. I have tried posting over at the eee forums but i have not had much luck so far so i thought i would try here.
I have searched on this forum and see some discussion about this. I have a reasonable amount of basic computing knowledge but to be honest most of the more technical stuff i am seeing discussed is probably beyond me.
I was hoping i could post here in the hopes that someone could explain the steps available to me as clearly and simply as possible.
i had 32 gb pendrive of kingston.. and when i copy my data from my HDD to Pen drive.. it shows the files in it fr like 5 minutes.. and when i restart my laptop or re insert pendrive in the port.. the pendrive shows nothing but it shows the filled space.. its nt hidden.. ihv tried in folder and search options too.
Last week, my high school was infected with a virus. Every computer and pen drives were infected with it. At home, we don't have viruses problems often, because I'm cautious and my mom has a pen with a switch that enables and disables writing to her pendrive. Nowadays, it's rare to see such pens with such switches... So I wondered if there's anyway to, somehow, set my pen to 'read only' mode, so that when I plug it to public PCs, my pen doesn't get infected. And then, when I go home and connect the pen to my PC, have the capacity to write on it as usually.
