Word 2002 In Office XP Compatibility Mode?

Jan 18, 2012

Just got a new Windows 7 machine. Installed Word 2002 and Excel from my Office XP disks with no problem whatsoever. Once in a while text in my document will be highlighted and start flashing, and closing the document or stopping the program in task manager is the only thing that stops it. It might have to do with erroneous commands coming from my Dragon Naturally Speaking program, but I'm not sure.

Question: Is it likely that if I ran Word 2002 in Windows XP compatibility mode it might run a little better? I have Home Premium Windows 7 so I don't have the Windows XP MODE, but it's my understanding that I can run things in a compatibility mode, or are those the same things? I'm OK with it how it is but wouldn't mind eliminating this glitch.

Office XP Professional 2002 Compatible With Windows 7?

Jul 18, 2010

I wrote last May asking about Office 2003 compatibility with Windows 7, and decided to install office 2003 after my Office 2007 trial version was up. Well, now it is up, only the install CD I have says "Microsoft Office XP Professional, version 2002." Not the same as MS Office 2003? So I'm wondering again, will this version be compatible with Windows 7? Also I was planning to remove Win 7 with "RipoutOffice2007".

Upgrading To Office Home And Student 2010 From XP Small Business 2002

Nov 25, 2012

I use MS Word a lot. Whenever I want to do anything with my saved Word items, I click on Documents, click on my Word item I want and it opens up. Since I upgraded to Office Home and Student 2010, when I click on the Word item I want, a window opens up and asks me what program I want to use to open it up, 'Notepad' or 'Wordpad'. I want neither. I just want it to open up like it did before I upgraded.

Microsoft's-lack Of Compatibility Between Windows 7 And Outlook 2002?

Nov 17, 2011

I just looked at a thread where a person complained that there is a known incompatibility between Win 7 and Outlook 2002, namely that Outlook would not save passwords in the Win7 environment. Microsoft has offered no solutions and the tenor of most of the replies was that the complainer should just quit whining and upgrade. The software was purchased and the purchaser should have every expectation to be able use it, especially within a monopoly OS. The problem is that Microsoft doesn't support their software and actively (criminally?) plans their obsolescence so that people will be forced to upgrade. This is mere to pad their profits and does not serve the society in which they operate as an exclusive franchise. If a software company stops supporting their software, then they should be forced by statute to open the source code.Any arguments against this are purely fatuous They may claim that they are protecting source code, but if this is so, then the new upgrade is just a minor adjustment and not a substantive upgrade to the code. Minor changes to inventions are not worthy of patent protection under patent law. They can't have it both ways.Their attempt to force upgrades whenever they introduce a new OS cries out for protection under anti-trust laws.Microsoft does not have the authority or the right to pad their profits by planning obsolescence into systems that they monopolize. If they don't want to support old software then let them turn this task over to competitors. This is the meaning of patent law, to allow innovations that serve the interest of society. This is an industry that is out of control and needs fixing. Their control of the OS places a huge and unnecessary cost burden on the middle class throughout the world. This is a drag on the entire economy and adversely impacts our society in numerous ways.

Importing Template Files From Office 2003 To Office 2010

Mar 10, 2012

Having upgraded my desktop PC to Office 2010, I need to import three seperate letter template files for use in Word. These were lost during the upgrade but are on my laptop, which still runs Office 2003, as .dot type files and I also have them copied to a memory stick. However, I am at a loss as to how and where to save them into the new programme on my desktop PC. If it makes a difference, I should add that I do not use Libraries and have disabled them.

Office 2010 Windows 7 64-bit Won't Open Office 2007?

Sep 24, 2011

Just bought a new laptop with Windows7 64bit installed-my first exposure to Windows7. I had Office 2007 installed on my old Dell 32 bit machine. I had also recently pruchased Office 2010 and installed that on my new machine. Now, when I try to open those 32bit 2007 files with 64bt 2011, Iget an error message that "no picture file is available", or words to that effect. When I try to "open with", the only option displayed is "Microsoft Office" with an icon that looks like a picture file. When I try to browse to the proper office program(Excel, for example), there are none of teh Office suite programs displayed, only "Microsoft Office".I can navigate seperately to the proper progran, Excel, etc., and drag the file into the application, and it opens, and all seems to work OK. I "save as" the proper application file, but it still will not open with double-click on the file name.

Libre Office & Open Office File Associations

Jan 7, 2012

I realize that this is not primarily a Windows7 problem, but it just bothered me to see one program stopping me from setting the file associations for another program. And I need to vent.I have been running both Libre Office (LO) and Open Office (OO) for months now, not a heavy user, just trying to keep both going while I figure which one I liked best. These apps share file extensions, and are very file compatible, and I had always been able to open the same document in either. Both families of programs pinned to the Start Menu had, for months, contained file history of many documents, some documents showing as history in both app-families, and able to be opened in either LO or OO. Yesterday, I upgraded Open Office. First thing I noticed, the LO apps pinned to the start menu had their document history icons changed to OO icons. Sure enough, these documents, in the history list of a pinned LO app, open in OO. Rats, I think--I guess I will have to re-assign the extensions to LO. No can do! I have never had this happen before, but I now when I use "Open With" on a file with the shared extensions, (.ods, .odt,...) then "Choose Default Programs...", then "browse" to set a new default, the LO app does not stick. So far, I am unable to set the file association to any of the LO apps.

I have occasionally seen software, usually pretty sleazy and undesirable software, that would hijack file associations, would take-over as much of the computer as possible. But at worst, they just made it inconvenient so that the user would have to go back and re-assign the desired apps. But I did not expect to see a professionally done app like Open Office to do this sort of thing without asking. And for sure, I did not expect to have an application block my ability to re-assign file extensions to to another app.
