Why 32bit Office Updates For The 64bit Windows 7 And Office Version
Oct 7, 2012
I have Win 7/Pro 64 bit, i5 processor, 8 GB RAM.I purchased the 64 bit version of Microsoft Office (via download). Why does the Windows Update list updates to the 32 bit version of Office? Is there any reason to install (or not install) these updates?

I will be getting windows 7, and MS office for both computers. Mom will get basic office, I will one more advanced, the one with MS publisher. I was reading MS office site, that said get MS office 32 bit, because a lot of the extras do not work in 64 bit version.
can I run Windows 7 64bit on my computer, then add MS office 32 bit and run the 32 bit software from Windows 7 64? Or does both Windows 7 ( the OS) and MS office (the program) both need to be the same bit version?

32bit. I installed all of the software which I run on it without any problems.When I try to update Microsoft Office 2010 Professional Plus (32bit) Windows Update only finds a few updates, and after they're installed it doesn't find anymore updates. It doesn't even find Office 2010 SP1.{Note: I had no problems with other updates like Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 or other Microsoft updates.I tried uninstalling Office 2010 and installing it again but nothing changed. The privacy settings which show up the first time you run an Office application I set it as "Recommended settings".I also tried downloading Office 2010 SP1 (32bit) and when I tried to run it an error came up saying something like version mismatch (I presume that you need to install other updates before running the setup & I also tried to download an other update but the same error came up.)I didn't have this problem before I formatted the computer.}

I'm trying to install NeatScan to Office. When I run the setup.exe, it says it's extracting to Office.msi then gives an error, "Office version 2003 or higher must be installed to use NeatScan to Office."I've tried running it in compatibility modes (tried several) & nothing works.

I am trying to move one pst file from one laptop which has Outlook 2010 32 bit to another laptop which has Outlook 2010 64 bit installed, steps taken 1) Copied the pst file from the User/AppData/Microsoft/Outlook folder to usb. 2) Pasted the file from usb into User/Documents folder. 3) Tried to open the file in Outlook and I get the error that Outlook encountered errors while opening the file. Now how is that possible when the file is working perfectly in one laptop but when I copy and paste it into another it gets corrupted? Is it due to 32 bit to 64 bit outlook? I tried to repair it using scanpst and it brought back few mails?

If you've ever re-installed Windows 7 recently (or office 2010) there's a myriad of updates that can take a long time (I think around 1 GB of downloads if you include Office).Is it possible like we did with XP to "Slipstream" the Service packs and updates into Windows 7 and an Office install media.Office 2010 sp1 is a separate download and Windows 7 retail doesn't always have SP1 included.

I use MS Office 2003 on Windows 7 (I hate Office 2007) on a computer I bought a couple of years ago. The computer came with a trial version of MS Office Home and Student Version 2007, which I never used (didn't actually know it was there as it doesn't show up on start all programs). The other day I opened an attachment that contained MS Word 2007 docs (didn't know they were this version) and now every time I go to open an existing Office document (any), the trial version pops up trying to install. I can get to my document after closing a bunch of boxes and it will be in 2003. However, today after closing the boxes the document came up in "compatibility mode" which was 2007. I hate 2007 and want only 2003.

Just bought a new laptop with Windows7 64bit installed-my first exposure to Windows7. I had Office 2007 installed on my old Dell 32 bit machine. I had also recently pruchased Office 2010 and installed that on my new machine.Now, when I try to open those 32bit 2007 files with 64bt 2011, Iget an error message that "no picture file is available", or words to that effect. When I try to "open with", the only option displayed is "Microsoft Office" with an icon that looks like a picture file. When I try to browse to the proper office program(Excel, for example), there are none of teh Office suite programs displayed, only "Microsoft Office".I can navigate seperately to the proper progran, Excel, etc., and drag the file into the application, and it opens, and all seems to work OK. I "save as" the proper application file, but it still will not open with double-click on the file name.

I have now spent what seems to have been Months trying to get these updates that I keep being told about to install. I have trawled the Web, looked at all the fixes and checked registry entries, nothing works. To be honest I am at a complete loss, everything else I have updates, but this 2010...no chance.I am UK based and the software was purchased for my daughter while she was at Uni from Software4Students, it does say not to be sold outside Europe.I am running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit?

I was trying to install updates on my wife's computer for office 2010, when I received a message that updates failed. On going back to previous updates, I realized, that none of the updates had installed. I immediately checked to make sure the office setup exe file was enabled, and it was. Windows updates install just not office updates. (Amd 64 dual-core 6 gb ram 2 itb hdd. windows vista home premium 64-bit). What can I do to get these updates to install? Event viewer gives this output: Product: Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010 -- Error 1606. Could not access network location %APPDATA%.I also got a error code:80070643. What do I need to do to get the updates to install?
