Sep 12, 2012
I recently purchase a new computer with window 7. I have a office 2002 with publisher cd and I tried to install but the product keys I put in are not recognized. I did use the same cd with the old computer I am replacing.

I wrote last May asking about Office 2003 compatibility with Windows 7, and decided to install office 2003 after my Office 2007 trial version was up. Well, now it is up, only the install CD I have says "Microsoft Office XP Professional, version 2002." Not the same as MS Office 2003? So I'm wondering again, will this version be compatible with Windows 7? Also I was planning to remove Win 7 with "RipoutOffice2007".

Just got a new Windows 7 machine. Installed Word 2002 and Excel from my Office XP disks with no problem whatsoever. Once in a while text in my document will be highlighted and start flashing, and closing the document or stopping the program in task manager is the only thing that stops it. It might have to do with erroneous commands coming from my Dragon Naturally Speaking program, but I'm not sure.
Question: Is it likely that if I ran Word 2002 in Windows XP compatibility mode it might run a little better? I have Home Premium Windows 7 so I don't have the Windows XP MODE, but it's my understanding that I can run things in a compatibility mode, or are those the same things? I'm OK with it how it is but wouldn't mind eliminating this glitch.

I use MS Word a lot. Whenever I want to do anything with my saved Word items, I click on Documents, click on my Word item I want and it opens up. Since I upgraded to Office Home and Student 2010, when I click on the Word item I want, a window opens up and asks me what program I want to use to open it up, 'Notepad' or 'Wordpad'. I want neither. I just want it to open up like it did before I upgraded.

I'm trying to install NeatScan to Office. When I run the setup.exe, it says it's extracting to Office.msi then gives an error, "Office version 2003 or higher must be installed to use NeatScan to Office."I've tried running it in compatibility modes (tried several) & nothing works.

I use MS Office 2003 on Windows 7 (I hate Office 2007) on a computer I bought a couple of years ago. The computer came with a trial version of MS Office Home and Student Version 2007, which I never used (didn't actually know it was there as it doesn't show up on start all programs). The other day I opened an attachment that contained MS Word 2007 docs (didn't know they were this version) and now every time I go to open an existing Office document (any), the trial version pops up trying to install. I can get to my document after closing a bunch of boxes and it will be in 2003. However, today after closing the boxes the document came up in "compatibility mode" which was 2007. I hate 2007 and want only 2003.

Just to be sure I am understanding the sticky above correctly, I wanted to ask a question. My current PC has an OEM copy of windows XP. So I can go ahead and buy an upgrade version of Windows 7 for 119 instead of 200 for the full retail version and install it on my computer right? Then, when I buy a new motherboard soon, I can upgrade my computer and use the same windows upgrade version CD's to reinstall Windows on the upgraded computer right?

I installed windows 7 yesterday to my new laptop. It is a licensed version, and after installation all other things were working fine. But CD drive is missing. I've been doing this since years and know lot of things about computer hardware. But still after trying all the possible solution, I'm unable to get the result. I'm having Dell inspiron, with 2 GB RAM and 320 GB hard disk.

If I uninstall windows live essentials 2011 and install windows live essentials 2009, will the 2009 windows live mail automatically have all my emails in place without having to import them from my backup? My .eml files are in C:UsersMeAppDataLocalMicrosoftWindows Live Mail, so I assume any version of live mail will associate itself with that automatically and the emails will show up? The only reason I'm doing this is because I hate the new live messenger, (which I uninstalled) and tried to install the 2009 version. But it won't let me install older versions until I uninstall live essentials 2011. And that means all other live apps get uninstalled, including email of course.

I have a Gateway laptop M series that I upgraded to Windows 7 a few years back (o.g. Vista) has run beautifully ever sense. Recently installed Win8 fresh. Error code OxcOOOOOe9 became the issue. Start up repair was performed several times with no resolve. Used cmd to perform MBR fixes including fix mbr, bootrec.exc, and other fixes found on this site. Nothing seems to resolve the issue. I gave up and was about to call it quits, under the assumption the hdd was gone. One day I decided to throw a fresh copy of Ubuntu on it for laughs ( I am currently getting my certs in networking and linux+) it works flawlessly. Strange to me although I understand there is a difference with grub and mbr.
I should add that I am now just trying to reinstall 7. I have played with 8 on a different PC and would rather stick with the former.

1) Is anyone doing this &/or know if it will work alright (as in not cause Win7 to crash or otherwise cause a problem)? Since I already have XP Pro and am perfectly happy with not having some of the extra gadgets that come with the newer Office (along with the newer price ) I'd like to just use what I have...
2) I've been told (by one person) that it will be fine and to just make sure to "uninstall" any Office programs on my Win7 computer before installing.
3) However, I've also been told (by someone else..a computer store employee) that it won't work.
I'd really like to get Word, Excel, and Pwr Point back up and running. This computer was purchased "with" Windows7 and a trial version of Office.

I already have MS Office Home and Student 2007 suite installed. I am running Windows 7 Pro on a Dell 8100. I also own MS office 2007 Pro, which I purchased so I could install Outlook 2007. How do I select and install only Outlook 2007 from this office suite, without installing the complete Pro suite? I looked under Customize during setup and the only thing I could see is to click on each of the + to make it -. Will that disable all the programs I don't want so only Outlook installs?
