OEM Windows 7 Pro - Bad Media How To Install
Oct 4, 2010
I bought a Windows 7 Pro 32bit OEM from Newegg soon as it came out. Recently my motherboard died so I decided to build another computer and dump the old one. Problem I have is the original dvd is bad, the disk will not load. I get the windows 7 spwizeng.dll is not a valid window image. The DVD spins funny in the drive making an odd sound. I tried 3 difference machines, its a bad disk.Is there any way around this? Would Microsoft provider a replacement DVD or ISO download for a legit OEM purchase? I have a valid key. I just need media or an ISO to install.

I am replacing my current hard drive with a SSD. I am also changing the motherboard, CPU, and RAM. So, I guess you can call it a new system. What I need to do is install a Window 7 upgrade media on the new SSD. I will be using my Windows 7 upgrade media from a Family 3 pack Windows 7 upgrade media. I used this Family 3 packs to upgrade this computer on the current hard drive and two other computers. So, I have used it three times. According to everything I have seen I will need to do a double install to ensure that Windows 7 will activate. What I need to know do I need to activate Windows XP before installing Windows 7?

Last week both my hard drives failed and after buying a new one I reinstalled Windows 7 Home Premium. When I tried to reinstall/set up Windows Media Center the set up got to the point where it was scanning my TV signals for channels and was about 1/3 to 1/2 through when the computer killed itself and rebooted. This happened 3 times at about the same place. Why is this happening and how do I get the set up to complete? I had it working just fine before on my old hard drive but I can't now.. I am now using Total Media 3.5 which works but not as well as Media Center so I would really like to get the set up to complete...

In a moment of weakness, I ordered the retail Windows 8 Pro Upgrade Media from an online vendor and I received it yesterday with both 32bit,64bit media and Key.I made a Custom install with the 64bit media on a 80GB partition created and formatted with Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit Windows 7 Disk Management - a clean install with DELL OEM Reinstall Disk - on my Dell lappy. Since it was an upgrade media, I followed Brink's tutorial refreshing it after the first install. Everything went on well and Windows 8 Pro activated without any hitch. After reading that many users who had bought the media from the vendor were able to do a clean install even on a new HDD, I decided to try it.So I reformattedd the partition and installed the Windoes 8 Pro and what a surprise! It activated automatically without any hitch and what more now I have a dual boot system with OEM Windows 7 & and Windows 8 Pro.I also observed, when I followed Brink's tutorial and installed Win 8, the windows.old folder contained 1.32GB files and with the later clean install though there was a Windows.old folder it was empty. The media purchased from the online vendor is distributed by a Microsoft authorised distributor and replicated in Singapore.

I have a laptop running licensed Windows 7 Pro 64bit (sticker on the bottom for same version with key etc.). I would like to reinstall the OS but have only Windows 7 Pro 64bit upgrade media from another PC. Can I just use that Upgrade Win7Pro64 DVD to reinstall OS on laptop (using that key from laptop..)? AFAIK it doesn't matter what Windows 7 DVD to use (except Home editions), OS will determine what it is meant for by S/N, right?

After installing Windows 7, everything was fine. I did not realise though, that Media Player 12 was already installed, so when I saw a link to download it, I did and tried to install it. After rebooting, the obviously already installed Media Player 12 files became corrupted and now, everytime I try to run it it will not work. I am directed to download it, and the link goes to the old Media Player for Windows NT - which will not install, as my PC tells me the Media Player 12 is already installed...So how can I uninstall anything Media Player and start fresh? I see no uninstall .exe for it anywhere.

As you're aware, Vista had the 'capability' to do a clean install using the Upgrade DVD.
You could boot from DVD, do a clean install, not validate, then when in Windows, go to the DVD drive and install again, this time doing an upgrade and then validate.
This seemed to be kosher as reported on many sites. I know people who did it and all was well. Their Vista PCs run fine, and are completely up to date with regards to SPs and updates.
So, for an Upgrade price, it was possible to do a fresh install...will Windows 7 have this capability do you think?

How can I make Windows Media Player stop updating media every freaking time I start it up? It always hogs up massive amount of CPU power and goes into (Not Responding) for a min while updating.I only add media files to the Windows Explorer Library so I can get indexed searches. I don't even use WMP to view files or anything. Just to burn some music CDs sometimes.I've tried deleting the files from the WMP library but the next time I open it up, it scans and updates all my files again! Is there a way to completely purge the WMP library and make it not update ever? I've unchecked every option that seems to make it scan and update but it still does it.Basically I want to UNLINK the Windows Explorer Library from the WMP Library.

Yesterday I wanted to use the CS5 After Effects, but it gives me an error that it can't find the Win mediaplayer. I found at the website from Microsoft a sort of update.Download: Media Feature Pack - Microsoft Download Center - Download Details This update is still going on after almost 7 hours so there must be something wrong. Is there a easy way to install the media player?

I have VLC Portable as the default program for opening some video files, like .mp4 and .avi. And I have Foobar (portable) as the default program for .mp3.Usually the icons on .mp4, .avi, .mp3 files get updated with the icons of the assigned media players. But on this PC it's not working. They're still the same icons as if WMP was the default player.Does it have to do with the Standard user account? (Because on other PCs I run from an Admin account and I don't have such problems.)

I'm in grave problem here. I just installed windows 7 x64 a few days back. And initially I installed the 32bit version of k-lite codec pack for my windows media player. The media center worked fine then. It was loading my ffdshow and ac3filter along as I checked it.But then yesterday I noticed that the same pop-up od recommended/express install of WMP came again. Initially I thought that it must be some bug or something, but then when my MKV and AVI files didn't work in WMC, I realized that somehow WMP x64 got triggered, and now it is using the x64 bit of WMP in WMC. And I just wanna revert back to 32-bit WMP in WMC.

I am using it inside windows 7 ultimate X64. I also use Media Browser and have set it to use media player as an external player but it loses some functionality after something is played I have to restart media center and media Browser to play anything again because it will go back to menus but not play anything untill
