No Multi Physical Cpu Support
My system is a Asus L1N84 WS SLI FX74 This system has two physical processors on it. So its two dual cores making it 4 cores.(this is the main focus of this thread being started)
I have had this system since vista was new.
When I biult this system I ordered a copy of Vista Home Premium
When I got it up and running I noticed that when I went to system info it said I had 2 processors. Well I called Asus and AMD and Microsoft. And all of them said that the reason I was seeing two processors is because I have two processors. Me not wanting to hear it did alot of research until I found one thing that told me I was just being told what they thought would get me off the phone with them. And I am having the same issue with Windows7 RC1
What I told them is that is not a good answer because my previous system said I had 2 processors and that system was an AMD 4200 X2
So it said 2 processors and it was just ONE dual core.
Not to mention that this board got a horrible write up against Intel which caused AMD to trash the whole 4x4 idea. Bad for them because this is one hell of a system with all four cores running. Which were not running during those benchmarks against the Intel quad 6700 at the time. Remember I said I installed Vista Home premium.
Well it turned out while I was searching Microsofts web site I looked at the differences between Vista Home premium and ULTIMATE. There was my answer staring me right in the face.... Ultimate was the only version that had MULTI PHYSICAL CPU SUPPORT! So I then purchased Vista Ultimate and checked the amount of processors in the system window and also In CPUZ . And there they were......4 processors... Needless to say that I quickly benchmarked it again on pcpitstop and 3dmark 06 and on pcpitstop my numbers doubled!!!
Literally DOUBLED. Because now the other processor was being utilized.
I add in here about the issue with the Intel benchmark just to say that this system is and was totally comparable to any intel system at that time and AMD scrapped it because of a faulty test!!! The sites that did their reviews were only running one of the dual cores which is why it was only slightly better then one FX 60 in there reports!! THIS is over DOUBLE and FX 60 with all 4 cores running!
Anyway... Now to the issue about Windows7 ULTIMATE........
THEY didnt put that support in Windows7 Ultimate making it no good to use with a server board!! And now I have this OS in here and am only running on 2 cores AGAIN!!! What will microsoft do to fix this issue for all the people that want to run Windows7 in their servers boards INSTEAD of the new WINDOWS SERVER 2008?
How do I get my processors to show up?? Anyone have any answers?
The Microsoft technical support told me that they cannot answer that and I would have to call technical support after I purchase Windows7 and have the issues!! WHY WOULD I WANT TO PURCHASE IT WITH THIS ISSUE !!! ANYONE?? Help please? Microsoft?
Just to clarify the post above for anyone that says it.... I have ULTIMATE . that IS the RC1. And it says 2 processors and cpuz which said 4 before I installed this NOW says 2!

Multi-Monitor Taskbar Support
Any suggestions to deal with multiple monitors in Windows 7? I was using UltraMon in Vista and really liked what it did. With all the changes to the taskbar in 7, UltraMon has lots of issues. Is there anything new in 7 dealing with the taskbar (across multiple monitors)?

Multi Language Support In Win 7
I'm planning to buy a new PC with Windows 7 (English) and not sure what version I should buy. I need to be able to switch into Japanese language mode for writing Word documents and composing/reading email sometimes. I do not need the desktop, menus etc. to be displayed in Japanese, however. I've found some info on the Internet and MS web site but still confused: 1) I have read that LIPs can be installed on any version of Win 7 but looks like Japanese must be installed as a full install (no parent language). If this is the case, can I setup 2 user accounts and configure one for English and the other for Japanese? 2) Do I need to have Win 7 Ultimate or Enterprise edition to do what I want to do?

N Trig Multi Touch Support
I was hoping for native support for my duosense(both ben and capacitative) Ntrig Display(came as part of my business Latitude XT2) to be natively supported by Windows 7 since one of the features advertised is the multitouch capabilities, and the Ntrig being the only capacitative touch tablet out there and Ntrig working with Microsoft. Of course, the only native support is single touch. Multitouch support is not native, its only for 32 bit and it doesn't support the pen feature. Now ... who can I complain to to get this working? LOL or how can I request for them to work on this.

Where's The Extended Multi Monitor Support ?
I thought Windows 7 was supposed to have improved support for multi-monitor. OK, it's nice that each monitor can have it's own Cleartype and colour settings, but what about wallpaper and the taskbar. Tiled wallpapers always start from the primary monitor - not the left most monitor. As a result, it's impossible to have a panaorama image stretch across the desktop all the way from left to right, unless you have the primary monitor as left-most. The Taskbar only appears on the primary monitor. The new Snap options for positioning windows just don't work very well with multi-monitor. There seems to be no way of setting up a half-screen view if it isn't at the extreme left/right edge of the whole space. It'd be really nice to be able to (say) drag to a corner and have a half-screen view on that monitor.

Windows Virtualization Needs To Support Multiple CPU Cores
My office computer has 4 cores and my laptop has 2 and will likely be upgraded to a 4 core within the next 6 months. Windows Virtual PC does not appear to support more than a single core. VMWare and other virtualization software support multiple cores. Windows Virtualization needs to support multiple cores to remain relevent and meet customer expectations. My VM is doggishly slow and my host OS has lots of juice left.

Multi Monitor Support Using Nvidia Go 6100 Graphics Issue
When windows installed it found the drivers for the graphics from nvidia via windows update and everything operates as expected. When an external monitor is connected, the laptop display will turn off and the external will become the primary monitor, this happens regardless of the external monitor is on or off when connected. Additionally it happens on any monitor new or old connected and it does correctly detect and set the resolution and frequency for the monitor. In the Nvidia control panel it does not display the laptop display as existing and the only option for monitors is single display (no other options are shown). Using the windows monitor controls yeilds no different results, it simply acts as if there is no built in monitor at all. One other interesting quirk is that when the external monitor is disconnected the process will not reverse, the computer still acts as if it is connected and the laptop display remains blank. The only way I have found to reset it so that the laptop display can be used is to restart the computer after unplugging the display. Is this a driver/windows issue or a hardware problem? Any thoughts?

Support True Multi Monitor RDP Session (as A Server)
We're using 3 monitor setups with both portrait and landscape monitors. I did initial testing of the new "true multi monitor" feature of RDP 7. It worked great as long as I was connecting to either Windows Server 2008 R2 or Windows 7 Ultimate (both in trial versions). Based on additional research of microsoft websites that noted that true mutli monitor remote desktop connection is support by Windows 7 Professional, Ultimate or Enterprise, we have purchased 5 new computers with Win 7 Professional. Now I'm trying to connect to Windows 7 Professional from Windows 7 Professional system and I can only get the RDC session on one monitor only. Quite frustrating. I contacted both Dell and Microsoft but neither could tell me if Win 7 Professional can host true multi monitor session. Did any of you try this? I'm trying to determine if it is Win 7 Pro limitation or some system setting that I'm missing?

One-click Minimize / Restore Missing For Multi-window Or Multi-tab Programs
The new taskbar is fabulous, but it has lost one really valuable feature: the ability to minimise and restore multi-tab programs like IE8 with one click on the taskbar icon.  Restoring from the taskbar ---------------------------- Programs with one window work perfectly. Click the taskbar icon, and the program minimises/restores perfectly well. But programs with multiple windows or tabs - such as IE8 - force you to use the Preview feature, and then select a window/tab to open. The preview feature is wonderful, but it shouldn't be FORCED upon you. If you just want to restore IE8 back to as it was before you minimised it, you should be able to just click on the icon. Minimising to the taskbar --------------------------- I can no longer minimise a multi-window/tab program (such as IE8 again) by clicking on its taskbar icon. This is often much more convenient than navigating to the little minimise button in IE8's title bar. In fact, when IE8 is open, clicking on its icon in the taskbar has exactly the same effect as hovering over it. So really its behaviour is inconsistent and puzzling. (IE8 is just my example; all multi-window/tab programs suffer this). Summary ---------- The new taskbar is fabulous, but it really does need these two little glitches sorting out. For multi-window/tab programs, if the user chooses not to use the Preview feature, then simply clicking on the taskbar icon should do the minimise/restore action, just as it does for single window/tab programs, and just as it did in Vista, XP, et al.

Program Usage = 100% CPU But CPU = 10% When Idle
I have a Dell Dimension 2400 with 1 gb of ram, 80 gb harddrive, 2.4 ghz intel celeron and a nvidia geforce 6200 graphics card with a clean install. Everything runs fine with no driver issues and 2.8 processor rating. I also turned Aero off - using Aero Basic but thats not causing it. It idles betwenn 5-7% and 46% memory. But, whenever I open or use any program the cpu usage hits 100% and slows the program down. When I leave the program idle it goes back down but when I use it, it goes back up. Open Windows Media Play, hits 100% then back down. Try to watch a move, goes to 100%. While playing the file, drops to 80%-100% With IE8, idle fine, open new tab or window or change sites 100%. The same with other non window programs - winrar, process explorer, dixv player, real player. ANY program uses 100% during usage but much lower when said program is idle. Does anyone know what is causing my Cpu to yoo-yoo like this?

Low Available Physical Memory
So I just custom purchased a new computer with 12 GB of Corsair Dominator RAM. My "System Information" shows 12 GB of installed physical memory, but only 10 Gb of available physical memory. And just an hour ago it was only 9.97 GB of available physical memory. Just wondering if anyone knows why it would not be the full 12 GB. As I typed this post, it went back down to 9.97. It was my understanding that the system information is not dynamic, and my available memory should not change anyway. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know. I actually work in the IT industry, and have A+, Net+, Sec+, MCSA, CCNA. I am kind of embarassed to be here asking this, but it's odd. I am running Windows 7 Ultimate x64 with a Core i7 extreme (not OC yet I just got the PC today lol) and Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD7 along with a single GTX-285. I found a great deal and would only have saved about $200 building it myself with the exact same specs, so I just went ahead and bought this one. I have been building a lot of systems for friends lately and needed a break.

Physical Network Adapters Not Available In VPC
I did a clean install of Windows 7 64bit. Installed VPC 2007 and copied over some VHDs I had from my office computer (working from home now). I was able to successfully get internet connections from within my various VHDs (guest operating systems include Win XP, Vista and Window 7). I was running into the problem of losing TAB key functionality in the VPCs and I found that the problem was solved with the new Windows Virtual PC. I followed the instructions for converting/upgrading 2007 version VHDs to the new WVPC (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee706516%28WS.10%29.aspx). After following all of the instructions (including shutting down the converted VHD), I noticed that the only Network Adapters I have available in the VPC settings are "Not Connected", "Internal Network", and "Shared Networking (NAT)". My physical network adapters from my host are not showing. I have an Intel 82566DC-2 Gigabit Network Connection and I have a wireless adapter. I've double checked my host Local Area Connection and I have the Virtual PC Network Filter Driver checked. Despite trying various solutions for using Internal or NAT that I've seen in searches, I'm unable to get an Internet connection in the VPC. At best I can get a Local Only connection -- unless I connect my Host to my company's VPN. For some reason, once I do that I get an Internet connection in the VPCs. However, I don't want to have the VPN to my company on my host due to Internet monitoring and filtering. So, does anyone have any suggestions on how to get my host network adapters available on my VPCs so that I can get an internet connection?

Physical DVD Burner In Virtual XP
Has anyone been able to get the VirtualXP environment to see a physical DVD burner as a burner, rather than just a DVD drive? I've configured the setting to use my physical F: drive which is a LG DVD burner. However any software I have loaded into VirtualXP does not recognize this drive as a burner. I can put a DVD in the physical drive and access it via the virtual environment. That part works just fine. But no burning capability. I guess this would be moot if I could get Nero to install on Windows 7/64.

Total Available Physical Memory Is Unavailable
I installed windows 7 (32Bit) on a PC which had 1 GB of RAM initially. The physical memory was displayed correctly in Computer properties and also in msInfo32. Recently, I upgraded RAM by adding another 2GB. I can see the total physical memory in BIOS and also in Windows in MSInfo32 as Total Physical Memory Available as 2.75 GB. But the total physical memory installed is shown as unavailable, in Computer Properties as well as in MSINfo32.Is it a bug?In vista., it properly displays the total physical memory installed as i have installed 4GB of RAM in vista32 machine.

Limit Physical Memory Used By System
I'm looking for a way to restrict Windows 7 64b to use only 2 GB of 4GB RAM that is installed on PC. If this was Win XP, i would create second boot option and use the /maxmem parameter in boot.ini file (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/833721/en). Is there any way to do that on Windows 7?

Installing Data To A Separate Physical Drive
When the final version of Windows 7 is released I am going to install the Windows 7 operating system to my C drive and put my data on a separate physical D drive. I am going to put the temporary Internet files and the Windows temporary files folders on that D drive. What user folders would anyone suggests go to the D drive and what other data and/or folders would anyone suggest to go on the D drive?

Physical Drives Drop Off Randomly In W7 RTM
Having a strange problem on one of my systems. I have a Dell Optiplex 755 with 3 SATA drives, C, E, and F. C is the system drive, and is running XP SP2. Been running this way for a while, and no problems accessing data across all drives.So now, I remove the physical C drive and pop in a new drive onto which I install Windows 7 RTM. Install goes great, all drivers load, and I'm up and running. Interesting thing though, is that after a random amount of time, my E and F drives will disappear and no longer be available. One minute I'll be browsing folders and files, the next minute I'll get an error indicating the file is no longer available because the drive is gone. I've tried messing around with drive letter assignments, and futzed with Disk Manager, but can't seem to get those pesky drives to stick around. I can't seem to find a rhyme or reason as to which drive will poof first; sometimes it's the E, other times the F. And when they fail, they're gone from Disk Manager too. When I put my XP SP2 drive back in, everything is back to normal.Now, I'd understand if they never showed up, that I'd have a drive letter assignment issue, or a BIOS issue maybe. Or maybe even a formatting issue (odd as though that may be). But the fact that they do show up and allow browsing, sometimes for up to 10 minutes, has me stumped.One thing that is different in Disk Manager though. In XP, the C drive is Disk 0, E is Disk 1, F is Disk 2. When I look through Windows 7, E is Disk 0, F is Disk 1 and C is Disk 2. Would that make a difference? Been a while since I've been this deep...I've performed the same procedure on a Vista system and haven't experienced any of these issues. Anyone have any thoughts as to what might be causing this? I've read about the Registry edit to remove the limit keys, but those aren't present in my registry.

Add A Physical Network Adapter To A Vm Under Virtual PC
I am running Windows 7 Enterprise RTM and recently installed Windows Virtual PC RC. I previously had been using Virtual PC 2007 SP1. I prefer to setup my vm's using a bridged network connection so they are fully available for system management. With this installation, I select to edit the vm settings and go to the networking section. I have 1 adapter selected so I expand the drop-down menu for Adapter 1. I only see three options:    Not Connected    Internal Network    Shared Networking (NAT)From the little bit of reading that I have done, the new version of Virtual PC should have an option for Physical Adapter. I have tried creating new vmcx files for systems as well as importing my old Virtual PC 7 vmc files. I have also tried updating my physical NIC driver to the latest provided by Intel. My system specs are a Dell Optiplex 755 with an E6850 processor running at 3.0GHz and 8GB of RAM. My vm VHD files are located on an external hard drive connected via eSata. I do run under user-mode rights and have also tried running with administrator rights on the system. I don't have a Windows 7 RC version available anymore to test this and never tested the new version of Virtual PC until using the Windows 7 RTM version, so I cannot confirm if this worked prior to the RTM build of Windows 7. Any thoughts or assistance is appreciated. Edit:  Just to clarify, my host operating system is Windows 7 Enterprise RTM and the guest I am working with right now is Windows XP SP3.

Blue Screen With Physical Dump Msg
I bought a toshiba laptop which had an upgrade to windows 7 option. My Laptop was working fine in Vista until i upgraded to windows 7. Ever since i have upgraded to windows 7, well its been about a day in which i have used my laptop for less than 6 hrs and i have seen physical memory dump blue screen 8 times. The blue screen displays a message of disabling shadowing in Bios which i cant find in the bios. I have a toshiba sattelite L305-S55970 laptop. I am wondering whether there is an issue with hardware of laptop or do i need a specific update for windows 7. Please provide help on how to solve this problem. I waited for windows 7 for like 3 months and now , whn i have it, i have issues with it.

Win7 Will Not Boot - Physical Memory Dump
So i have had Windows 7 build 7100 on my laptop for a few months, i was at work and wanted to plug a tv to my vga side port. when i plugged it in, my computer got the blue screen then said physical memory dump i shut off the computer and restarted it Windows does not boot up any more, it will go to where the Windows icons should fly in, but they never do. It will take me to the startup repair, i tried repairing it but it said it could not. I tried the system restore from an earlier date but that would crash and say it failed.

Clean Install On Multiple Partition/physical Drives
On my home computer, I have 2 physical drives. One hard drive has a single partition (D:) and the other (newer) drive has two partitions (C: and E:). Unfortunately when I first purchased this computer, the technician mistakenly installed Windows XP onto my older hard drive (D:) rather than installing the OS onto the desired C: drive. The main problem that I am having is: Can I perform a clean install of Windows 7 onto C: drive even though my current OS (Windows XP) is installed onto D: drive? P.S. I have already backed up all files that exist in all of my partitions and would like to format all of the drives (C, D, and E) drive spaces: C: = 40gb D: 200gb E: 200g

Blue Screen On Startup - Dumping Physical Memory
Frequently (60% of the time) my Win7 install BluScreens on startup. It gets to the "Starting Windows" screen, displays the logo, then goes into the classic "Dumping physical memory...".I am running Windows 7 RC1 (Build 7100) 64 Bit English on a Toshiba L305D with 4 GB of RAM, a Dual-Core AMD Turion X2 Ultra 64, and an NVIDIA graphics card. Just reply if you need futher information.My question is, is there anything I can do to remedy this, apart from taking apart the computer.

Copying Large Amounts Of Files Uses Up All Physical Memory
I tried copying some media files, pictures, videos, music and downloads (>2GB) from one drive to another and noticed memory usage soared. It seems to cause Windows to page out to virtual memory like crazy, adding to the traffic caused by copying or moving files around. Can someone explain why this is happening? Is it a good thing for Windows to page out to virtual memory during heavy disk I/O?
