So I just bought new parts for my PC (i7 3770 and 8gb of ram), and everything was running fine at first, but now my pc starts up pretty slow. The desktop comes up but the only thing I see is the wallpaper and the taskbar. The icons come like a minute later coupled with the windows startup sound. I don't have much startup programs as this is a pretty new install.

My new laptop is only 5 weeks old. It is Windows 7 64 bits. Since yesterday, my desktop does not display Windows 7 logo nor HP logo. Instead, the desktop is white color covering my blue wallpaper and has huge black letters message saying: "Stop! You may have to clean up your computer with our program because it may be clogged up. "The service trays lower left and lower right both display the few icons correctly (volume, Skype, Weather, Internet Explorer 9 etc.) When I click on these icons they work. They work. How do I gat rid of this annoying message and get back my blue wallpaper and desktop with Windows logo& and HP logo? There is nothing to click on to delete the message. My Norton and Microsoft Essentials both ran a long scan and both tell me I have no virus.

There is a closed thread that describes my exact issue and what was discussed at [url]...
I was wondering if anyone knew of a resolution for this. It is for another computer and so i don't have immediate access to the specs but i can post them at a later time if it is deemed necessary. I just wanted to get the ball rolling at least for now

Some application icons and files that are use them to open aren't displaying their proper icon and are displaying a default windows icon.
This is happening in the taskbar, the desktop and the start menu. I've tried deleting the iconcache.db file which didn't work.

I recently reinstalled Windows 7 and I copied my old appdata folder. I do not know if this is what is causing the issue, as it was causing invisible icons to be pinned to my start menu.Anyways, my current problem is, when I choose to display my desktop toolbar on the task bar, the toolbar displays my current desktop shortcuts, the sub folders you see when you view the window (ie, libraries, homegroup, network, computer, control panel, user folder, recycle bin) and icons that are not displayed elsewhere, such as a second control panel. What could be the problem and how would I stop the sub folders and second control panel from displaying?I have tried to remove the icons from the desktop folder, but they do not have an option to be removed. I have tried deleting them from the task bar toolbar itself, but it acts as if it deleted it, but they do not go away

Okay, I am at my wits end. I have tried to repair. I rebuilt the icon Cache, and used the registry fix that was available here on the forum and nothing is working. Here is a screen shot to show what is wrong:
All application files(.exe) are the same. I don't know what else to try.

My husbands PC is not opening properly - he is only getting the wallpaper. No icons or taskbar and Ctrl Alt Delete just makes the whole screen go black. Right clicking mouse brings up menu but they mostly don't work.I see from searching this used to be a problem with xp/vista but not seen it mentioned for Windows 7. Have tried a system restore but that has not solved it.

Over the past several days my HP Windows 7, 64 bit, Home Premium PC has developed a freeze problem! After rebooting by pushing the button, it functions quite normally for anywhere from 20 minutes to a couple of hours. Then, without warning, one of several things happens, each resulting in a freeze. And in all cases I have to reboot by pushing the button.
* The desktop icons disappear, leaving only the wallpaper.
* The cursor disappears or freezes in place and nothing can be done.
* I will be working in a browser or in a MS Word document and it will grow faint and when I click I get the prompt that the program is not responding, then I am unable to do anything even though the cursor works. I can't close anything, open anything or reboot.
I have researched the issue, but it is so broad a problem, I don't have a clue where to go to research it.I have checked that no sleep mode is on. I have turned off all screen savers.I have disabled a good number of startup programs, including uninstalling several potential offenders.I have run cleanup programs such as CCleaner, etc. I have defragged.I ran scannow on my command prompt. No system errors were detected.I have run several spyware programs, but the problem persists. My hunch is that there is some program conflict or perhaps the browser is the problem. [code]

Windows 7 64 turns off the monitor 1 signal after startup. At login, it powers off monitor 1 and powers on monitor 2. Windows 7 behaves as though dual display is working even though monitor 1 does not display. It's the same for single display, the monitor will not work on cable 1 except at startup. Both 'Extend these displays' in Windows Screen Resolution and 'Extend' in the Nvidia Control Panel is selected. And changing which one is primary does not turn on monitor 1. Nor does switching the position of display 1 in either (ex.left/right/top/bottom).GeForce 8400 GS; Dual Monitor Solution 59 pin (DMS-59) to 2 VGA adapter -tried two of these adapter cables.atest Driver: 306.23 - installed a clean reset install of the latest Nvidia driver released last week.Same Resolution: 2 of the 4 monitors I have tried have the exact same 'recommended' resolution (1280X 1024), both 60Hz, and even chose 16 bit color for both instead of 32 to reduce resources.
Linux worked: Dual display worked immediately when I tried it in Ubuntu 10. So, it's not the hardware. It works in Ubuntu 12 too but not properly -it won't transfer windows across displays. My Windows 7 64 is an upgrade from Vista 64. One person in another forum with the same problem resolved theirs by reinstalling Windows 7. But another got the same problem only after a fresh clean install of Windows 7 64 with the same GeForce 8400 GS and DMS-59 when it had previously worked in Vista. 3 month old HP Dv6 Laptop with Windows 7 Problem Windows 7 desktop icons freeze after startup has completed. I have gone through all 106 posts about Windows 7 freezing at startup but I have not as yet found one that fits my problem exactly. The following problem is intermittent at switch on, and when it happens the only way out of it is to power down then switch back on again, maybe once or maybe 3 or 4 times before it is O.K. In the past couple of weeks, after switching on Windows 7 it boots up as normal to the desktop, but the first icon you try to open whether it be a desktop Icon which will highlight or a toolbar button at the bottom or even the 'Start' button which will depress the computer will not open these items. The mouse pointer can still be moved about the screen so the computer has not actually frozen. I have checked the startup folder which is empty

I just got rid of that stupid Windows Restore virus and now my startup menu->all programs show the folders but non of the shortcuts inside them. I was wondering if someone knows a fast way to restore default windows 7 start up icons like Windows media, microsoft word, calculator? Or better yet if they know how I can get all my startup menu program folders to be restored, rather than show up as (empty)? I've tried an unhide program after the virus was removed and it fixed my documents, but it says to turn off firewalls etc. to restore startup menu which ive tried many times.

Despite the quick boot that I get with my SSD i am unable to begin using my PC immediately after the boot completes. When the desktop appears I see all the icons fully loaded, but then they suddenly become white files and will slowly load back for about 10-15 seconds. During this time I am unable to click on any of the icons and use the programs. Most of them are shortcuts, is the OS reconnecting the file paths? It's obviously not that bad, but it is a tad inconvenient. Will reducing the number of shortcuts on my desktop reduce this, and are there any other fixes?

I have NVIDIA GTX 560,before I had ATI RADEON 3600 HD Series.
Problems started with ATI when I quited from game resolution changed so I needed to change it.
I found good resolution, but this happened few times and there is no good resolution. Everything looks to small or to big,to wide or to short (using different resolution does not help I try them all out with all possible modes (16:9,14:9) also changing cable does not helps)
After few weeks I got HDMI cabel.Resolution was good everything was OK as it should but now is another problem. Everything looks like it is in set on low quality and its blurry to.
I dont know what to do because I try all possible modes on HDMI to overscan off/on 16:9,14:9 changing settings in nvidia control panel... No way to get it work.
Also I have 21,6 inch LCD tv with default resolution 1360x768 I dont know does this helps but my TV is recognized as Generic non-PvP monitor.

I have a machine running windows 7 64bit and previously i had a 500gb hdd in the machine, i purchased a tv monitor of a friend who had upgraded his, but once i connected this through dvi i have the issue stated no signal past the windows logo upon boot. my friend came around to my house one night and solved this issue, he did something within the task manager and something else and by magic it worked, i think he said something about conflict of drivers i'm not too sure we are going back a few years. So i KNOW that my monitor works because it has been working for 3 years at least. Now my hdd failed so i recently upgraded for a nice new ssd super quick as we all know, i did a fresh install of windows and now i am having this same issue with my monitor not displaying and unfortunately for me this time i have not got a friend so close by to come and fix this again.so what i do know is that there is a fix somewhere within windows and that i do not have any faulty hardware or monitor, but i am stuck.

I have windows 7 home premium running on my compaq (HP) presario laptop. When i select a photo for the wallpaper it stretches it out even if the photo is a potrait one, which means it cuts off heads of people and so on. I have tried going into control panel> appearance and personalisation> personalisation> desktop background> and tried to change the picture position to fit or centre or anything other then stretch but it wont change anything, the wallpaper stays the same. Anyone have any ideas? i have a feeling it may be a problem with windows or something. My dad is running windows 7 home premium on his home pc and i can change the wallpaper settings on it no problem.

can't seem to find a way to permanently fix it. The problem is that Windows 7 doesn't display Japanese fonts and instead just displays squares. I've tried deleting the font cache and letting Windows rebuild that. Worked for about 2 restarts and then the fonts weren't being displayed anymore.I've tried changing the system locale (for non-unicode programs). That fixes it but I get yen symbols instead of forward slashes in file paths, as well as other symbols being replaced. Creating a new user account seems to fix things but I'm the only one that uses my computer so having another account and having to select my own account on login is annoying. I have the Japanese keyboard added as well as Microsoft IME.I've found that just restarting a few times normally gets the fonts to display correctly but most times that I boot up the fonts aren't displayed correctly.
Specs:
Windows 7 Pro 64bit (had the same problem in 32-bit W7 Pro)
8GB RAM
i5-2500k @ 3.3 GHz
Programs where fonts don't display correctly: uTorrent, Foobar, windows explorer
And before someone mentions language packs and the Ultimate version of 7, no, I don't want to change my input language. I would just like to display Japanese. This can, and has been, done in the professional version.
