My Laptop Won't Switch On And Goes Blnak With Small White Line
May 5, 2012
My toshiba laptop won't start up, it gets so far then goes to a blank screen with a small white line on the top left... It sounds like its trying to start up. Is it the battery? I took the charger out of the laptop and within 10 mins it was showing orange...Then at times it reaches till the boot up screen and switches off, when I take the battery out I see the power light on but when I try and start it up it won't start.
All shortcuts on my pc have a small white box.The shortcuts are working fine but i want to get rid of that white boxes.I am attaching a screenshot of it and also a screenshot of the latest software i installed on my PC.7626349/yajckesLatest installed software:7626349/kqutdfw

The HDD did have a system restore Partion but my ssd did not, now when I boot from my ssd a white line just shows up In the top left corner.I have Tryed windows startuP repair but no luck.
Seems like in Windows Seven there's no way to add a command line switch when setting up default programs? What I'm trying to do is ensure that Chromium is always opened with this command line switch:-allow-outdated-plugins.I have it in the shortcut pinned to taskbar. All is fine until I open a page via association when the browser isn't open.Chromium has Flash built in. I have it disabled. So without the switch I'm going to keep seeing "your plugin is outdated".I don't understand why command line params when setting up file types has been removed.
I would like to know if its possible (and how to do it if so) to justify a paragraph of text in Word 2007 to gradually get narrower. What I mean is, id like the first line of text to be longer than the one after and so on until I end up with something like this,I want the 2nd line to start further to right of first line and end closer to left and so on. Im struggling to show an example but hope you know what I mean. Basically centre justified but going down in a V shape
I have run into this problem before and maybe there is a simple way to address it but if so I'm in the dark (I hate when that happens). The problem is that my laptop screen is very small and, like the situation tonight and other nights - I am installing a program and I have to click "Accept" to finish up and I can't see the "Accept" Link. If I move the window I see it is there but I cannot access it with the window displayed normally.I don't see any scroll bar either on the side to allow me to move further down the page.
i have an acer aspire 5738z and i am using windows 7 ultimate. every time i boot it up it works fine until i start getting onto internet. when i am using internet say, streaming videos on Internet or playing an online game or watching a movie online, the laptop just freezes. sometimes it freezes for like 2 secs but sometimes over 10 minutes. and then sometimes it comes back on again as normal or i will have to manually restart it from my end. i also tried to find any faults using a registry checker and couldnt find any although i am not pretty sure which is the best registry cleaner to be used. i also find that sometimes the laptop beeps just once before it unfreezes.
after one day of upgrading from Vista to Windows 7 yesterday, my computer's screen saver stopped and had this weird colored line across the top of my laptops monitor...I restarted and right after the boot up screen it shoots the color line across the top of the screen. No matter what I do it just ends with the line at the top. I have a Sony Vaio VGN-FW285J laptop. The thing ran amazing until just a little while ago. I've read that it might be my graphics card, but if that's the case then why does it show the windows 7 setup stuff when I try to reinstall windows 7. I'd dona clean install to see if my problem is fixed (though I doubt it), but I'm afraid of it resulting in my wifi and LAN not working. url...
When using my dell laptop, the screen will get quick tiny color lines and then go white blank and the only way to get it back up is to close my computer and wait about 2 minutes and sometimes I have to do this several times. This usually only happens if my computer is not plugged but also happens when it is just not as often.
when i'm on my computer, sometimes it just crashes and turns white or gray. the last time this happened, i had a bluetooth adapter (asus usb-bt211) plugged in from earlier in the day. i unplugged it and the screen immediately turned pitch black, presumably off.when this happens, i have absolutely no control over my computer. i cant open task manager or ctrl +alt+delete. i've searched this and so far i've only gotten that its a ram problem, but i don't think it is in my case. i say this because i have 8gb and i constantly have task manager open and i've never seen over 50% used (except when on a game or using something like a screen recorder, and it has never crashed while doing those things)the weird thing is.. and this may just be a coincidence, but Internet has been open every time it has crashed (10+ times).
When i start my laptop my icons and start menu disappear after about 1 second. My background disappears after about 15 seconds and i am left with a white screen and my cursor.
My windows 7 professional 32bit on my laptop has a problem. Everytime I turn it on, my laptop screen is white (and fades in some hints of black) and nothing shows up. However, sometimes I am able to get a display on an external monitor.
Before my computer loads my desktop it does a startup repair. What ends up happening is that it does a system restore and my computer is able to boot up normally on my external monitor (laptop screen still white). Once everything loads, my computer automatically looks for and installs a VGA controller driver (at this point I am suspecting something may be wrong with my graphics card because I no longer have the windows aero theme).
Once the VGA drivers are installed, my computer says it has to restart so that changes can be made. After the restart, everything is back to normal with my laptop screen working again and now I have the aero theme again. What is the problem? I've been trying to fix this for weeks. It should be noted that I can't always get the display onto my external so I have to keep on force restarting (holding onto the power button) until I can get it on the external.
I installed a new driver for my graphics card and it hasn't fixed the problem. I know there is a virus on my computer (file is tdx.sys). I am going to replace that file with a new one following some instructions from another forum but I don't want to do that yet because I am currently writing exams and not much of a tech savvy person. I don't want to mess around with system files until at least after my exams so I can back up everything.
I sent my computer out for repair under warranty for an LCD display replacement and it came back with a random white screen on boot. It is random and is not connected to anything previously attempted. 85% of the time it is OK, then out of no where when I boot it up white screen.
My computer was attacked by Antivirus 2010. Thank goodness that my son is an IT guy. He removed the program; however, my desktop is now black with white text. There are no icons. When I hit a folder or document, the background is grey. What can I do to restore my desktop to color?
I have several hours working on laptop that suddenly wont startup OS win 7. When I turn on laptop shows HP main logo (Press "ESC" key to enter start up menu) and after that shows a white dash flashing on the top left corner. I tried system repair disc, but it didnt work. I tried to restore system to an earlier point and didnt work either, it showed an error (0x8000ffff). I tried to restore to factory settings using F11 key but it only shows the white blinking. I already tried everything I found on the internet but no success.
My laptop has increasing updates when I switch it on. It started at update 1 of 1 and is now at update 1 of 66. Which means it can take forever to start. I don't understand why this is increasing all the time? And I can't find any similar queries on any support sites? Is it possible this is a virus? I have AVG free anti-virus software and the computer scan is coming out clear. Even in Safe mode.
i have an advent k4000 laptop and sometimes i just will not start up at all.i switch it on get power on light the hard drive light flickers little bit then just get blank screen.other faults i get sometimes get power light and caps lock and number lock light comes on but does nothing.i know when it is going to work properly is when power light comes on then hd then wireless light comes on.is there any checks i could try to work on the problem.not sure if its hd problem or what.but when i do manage to get working the laptop it self is fine.tried allsorts stuff from Internet to sort problem but really not sure what the issue is.
my laptop was working properly until this morning that when i put it on, i realize all my desktop files and folders are all missing. how do i get them back.
Whenever I switch user accounts the computer will start the switch and then lock up with a display message that says no signal on the monitor. It happens if the computer has been running for hours or only a couple of minutes. I have to shut the PC off and leave it off for 20-30 minutes. I can then restart and enter any user account. But if I try to switch user or logoff and pick a different user the whole cycle begins anew.
I use windows 7.When I turn on laptop (acer Aspire 5742) cannot connect to internet until I switch user and log in again. Soon as I touch any browser icon the rest of computer stops responding as well. It's only me on computer. Have virgin media security/ spyware/ virus protection. Tried CCleaner. After I switch user everything is fine.Additional info; On 16th October had great difficulty getting my emails from Yahoo. Sometimes sign-in box appeared without my security signature and different style of writing for browser remembered log-on details.
I have been using Thunderbird for my e-mail account. Somehow, Thunderbird was updated to 10.0. Now my e-mail texts are so small that I can barely read them. I downloaded an application that allowed me to increase the size of the fonts in the listing. However, the messages are still small. I tried setting the options to a larger font but that did not work. Two questions: Is there some way to increase the size of the text in both the email list and the messages. Two, can I just remove the new version and download an earlier version of Thunderbird. I don't know what version I was using, but I was perfectly satisfied with it.
I installed Win 7RC 32 onto a 160 GB hard disk which I partitioned. I allocated about 25 GB to C: system, and formatted the rest on to a D: drive for data. I've found that this may have been a mistake, as getting program installations to default over to D: are problematic (and not recommended by Microsoft, as per some previous threads I've read here).
And so I am running out of C space, and have several programs "manually" installed over to D. Quite frankly this is a pain, and I am about ready to throw in the towel and just try to extend the C drive. But maybe there is a way to avoid?
My question is this: what's my best approach to correct all this? Specifically, I'd like (if it is possible) for all my libraries/directories to default to D: so that I can readily reinstall Windows 7 (or downgrade) the C: System drive should it become necessary. This was my original goal and hope. I was able to have this with XP, although that was some time ago and I forgot the steps.
Anyone have an good suggestions for me, or should I just extend C: and give up this idea?
