I have a laptop with a monitor attached. I use to be able to come in and move the mouse to wake up the system. Now, I need to open the laptop and push the power button. I have gone into System/Device Manager/Mice.... and there is no option to "allow device to wake up". My knowledge is limited, but I do understand some things. I just don't see what could have caused this change. It just happened out of the blue!
View 7 RepliesI have a computer running 7 Pro 64x that won't wake from sleep when the keyboard or mouse is pressed. I checked in device manager and both are selected to wake the computer and not allow it to power down the devices. They are both PS/2. The only way to wake the computer is by hitting the power button on the case.

This does not have to do with an outdated driver(Most likely) It happened when I decided to decrease the brightness.
When my laptop wakes up from sleep mode, my wireless turns off for about 2-5 minutes. The screen also flashes, the task bar switches from black to clear. When wireless starts working again, the screen flashes a second time and the task bar returns to black.

Whenever I try to put my laptop into sleep mode, it wakes back up a few seconds later without me touching anything. Has anyone come across this before? I just reformatted my computer and this didn't happen before the reformat.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've had an HP dv5t laptop for about a year and a half (see specs), and so far (knock on wood) it's been pretty much perfect EXCEPT for one problem that has been happening on and off for the last several months. It occurs about once or twice a month for no apparent reason --- and I don't know if this this is a hardware or a software problem. What happens is that all of a sudden, for no reason my keyboard and touchpad/mouse are completely non-responsive -- and the only thing I can do is use the power button to shut down. When I reboot everything seems fine, until the next time it happens, a week or two later. It can happen when the laptop is running, but more often it happens when I open the lid after the system has been in Sleep mode. (I keep the laptop in 'Sleep' mode all the time when the lid is closed, and only fully "shut down" once in a while.) Everything seems to load properly --- the Desktop looks perfect and all my apps/icons are there, but the mouse won't move and the keyboard doesn't respond.
View 2 Replies View Relatedrecently my computer was acting up and would not startup past the "windows is starting up" screen. I really wanted to play a bunch of games I just bought so I kept occasionally getting it to work in "last known good configuration". Safe mode didn't work and eventually I ran a disc I have no idea what it's called but it said soldierx on the screen and ran like 8 virus scans and did a bunch of tests on my comp, apparently geeksquad uses it. Anyways it removed 3120 spyware, but right before I decided to run this the only reason I decided to was because my keyboard and mouse stopped working. It works in the bios and anything before I actually get to my desktop, lights up and everything, even the keyboard shortcuts work such as windows search, but I can't move my mouse or do anything with my keyboard. I ran startup repair and it says that windows can't automatically fix the problem, had my dad do some pin reset thing where you do something with the battery and move pin 1 to 2 and 2 to three or something like that and didn't work, the bios has ps/2 enabled and legacy something enabled which I read could be the problem, and I have no restore points.

But then I looked into what updates I had installed, and on the same day I updated "Intel(R) Network Connections" was when the mouse problem started. So I just uninstalled that, and now the mouse wakes up computer.

View 9 Replies View RelatedAll of a sudden I can no longer open or close new tabs using the middle mouse click (clicking the scroll wheel) it doesn work in ie or in firefox. Also seems like it doesn't work on the desktop or any other application. I have'nt installed new updates or new programs, I don't have any "mouse software" like intellipoint. This affects both my wireless keyboard with built in trackball and a serperate wireless scrollmouse. The only think I can think of is that a few days ago I changed the the speed of my cursor.. of course this shouldn't have affected anything else.... but it is really annoying as I mostly use my computer for web browsing and always open links in new tabs..

IE won't display any pages and I can't even ping Google from a command prompt! I am able to see all available networks wirelessly and am having the same problems on multiple routers. Other computers are able to connect.I have run scans using MalwareBytes and Super Antispyware. I have made sure that IPV4 and IPV6 are set to obtain an address and DNS server automatically. I also find that my laptop now no longer recognizes my monitor, which again it had been doing for some years. Different cables are used so it is not a cable problem. View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an eeepc 1000he with a viewsonic 22inch screen VX2255wmb. I have been using both for a while now with the dual screen setup without any problem. Since a couple days now, my external monitor won't show the optimal resolution which is 1600*1050. In the screen resolution set up page in windows 7,
it used to highlight the optimal ones that respected the aspect ratio of the screen but now it just shows all of them and when I set it up at 1600*1050, I get an error message on the external monitor saying that the configuration I chose is out of range. Now the highest resolution I can use is 1400*1050.
I dual boot with windows xp and I don't have this problem with it. I didnt use any driver for both Os, just plugged the monitor in and it worked.
Anyone has an idea?

After restarting the computer I am no longer able to boot my computer up, the screen will go black sometimes after the log in screen. But now I do not even get the option to go to the log in screen now it just goes to the startup recovery stage. Everytime I try to fix start up I get startup repair off line following by the details of 0.00000 or something like that. The numbers are all zeros in the details but I tried other options like restoring to a previous point and I keep getting errors.

Read far enough and you'll see that I solved that problem using Networking issue - Win7 printer, XP remote machines.Fast forward 13 or so months. Since that time I have replaced the printer, I've had a motherboard and processor issue with my box (since fixed), and no interruption of things working as they should. My printer - Canon ip4800 series - is USB hardwired to my Windows 7 computer, and the other home computers - two Windows 7 laptops, an XP box, and an XP netbook - can print to the printer, and view files on my Windows 7 machine, over our wireless home network. And that's been constant through the changes described.
Then yesterday, for no known reason, my daughter's Windows 7 laptop stopped being able to print. She'd send jobs to the correct printer, but they'd just queue up, with the queue visible from her machine, but not when I looked at the printer from my machine (that is looking at the print queue from her machine shows the jobs, but looking at it from mine shows no jobs).Nothing I did would result in stuff from her machine, from any application, to go to the printer.I finally deleted the printer from her machine, figuring I'd just add it back.I try adding a printer to the laptop, it doesn't find the printer on the list of available printers. When I try adding it by typing the name - \mywin7canon ip4800 series - that fails.When I look at "network" from her laptop, my computer shows up, but if I click on it, Windows says it can't connect.
When I type ping her_computer from a DOS box, it can't find it - but when I type ping any_other_computer it finds those.Her laptop can get on the internet from our home wireless network. All the other computers in the house - Windows 7 and XP - can access shared files on my PC, and more importantly, print across the network to my USB printer.Please, patiently and precisely, guide me through stuff to check on my PC and her laptop, to get this working again. I've been through the network and sharing center on my PC and the settings are correct.Again, as it is right now, my printer is not defined on her laptop.Final, cro-magnon- level question here: If I did a system restore on her laptop, back to a point when it had been able to print, might that fix things?
I have a Gateway M-6823 and prior to installing Windows 7 my mouse pad worked great.Since I installed Windows 7 (32 bit) my mouse pad has gone crazy! I can only control the mouse by using the lower left corner of the pad. I went into the settings in the control panel but I don't see a place to calibrate the pad.

View 6 Replies View RelatedThis problem started a few months ago when I updated the video drivers on my NVIDIA card. What happens is that when the pc goes to sleep, either by my command or after timing out for inactivity, the pc will wake up when prompted by mouse or keyboard, but the monitors don't. I know the pc wakes because when tapping on keys or clicking the mouse button I will occasionally hear pings from the pc. I'm not convinced that the problem is NVIDIA's, but this does coincide with an updated driver of theirs.Ultimately, in order to get my machine working again I have to press the power button and restart cold. Also, and I'm not sure if this is worth noting, upon cold start, my Kaspersky and clock gadgets, which are normally placed in the upper-right corner of the right monitor, display in the left monitor somewhere off-center.
I'm diligent with keeping drivers updated, but I really have no idea what to do now.
