Monitor Randomly Autoconfig
Jan 4, 2010
Odd thing, sometimes, for no reason at all, my screen either goes blank for a second before coming back, or the monitor says "auto config please wait" (like its just been connected) there seems to be no rhyme or reason for it, sometimes it goes days without doing it, others it does it several times in an hour,
iv got the latest video drivers, check the connections, and the monitor is an Acer Al1980 which is quite an old monitor now i know.
thoughts? obviously its either the Monitor, the cable or the Graphics Card, but i never had this problem on Vista, anyone care to make an intelligent guess on which one?

since I didn't have any kind of network in my house (I only have one computer) it would be okay to disable my Wireless Network Connection -- 802.11n Wireless LAN Card. I did this and now I notice in my Event Viewer under Custom View > Administrative Events there is an error saying: WLAN Autoconfig Service has successfully stopped. I am curious if this service is connected with my now 'disabled' 802.11n Wireless Lan Card? If so, would there be any problem with 'stopping' it in Services since the Wireless Lan Card is already disabled too?

First off, I'm using Windows 7 Professional 64-bit, AMD Athlon II X4 620 2.6Ghz, a 2-year old Powercolor Ati Radeon HD4870, an 8-year old Philips 107T CRT monitor, 4GB RAM, 600W power supply. I'm using a VGA-DVI adaptor to connect the monitor to the 4870 DVI port. Now, what's been happening is that sometimes my monitor would go off randomly. Can't reproduce the problem if I try.Another problem which I'm not sure if it's related is that sometimes when I boot up the computer, 8 beeps are heard, and nothing displays on the monitor. I'm able to get it to display by switching off and on the system, sometimes a few times. I just re-installed Windows, got the latest updates for the graphics drivers, and I thought everything would be fine. But my monitor froze when I was surfing, and when I reset the system, the problem happened again.

I have been using dual monitors in windows 7 for at least a year or more. For a long time I had it set up with monitor two over monitor one, but now I have altered the physical layout to side by side and want the monitors to reflect this. I have changed it to being side by side in the appropriate windows settings location and in the NVIDIA control panel both, yet when I open a new program (whether it is a game, browser, or media player) it changes back to the old over/under set up. Is there some way I could lock it to the side by side?

I purchased
ASRock X79 Extreme 9 socket 2011
Intel i7-3820
Corsair Dominator GT 2133 ram
Used from old system
Sapphire Radeon HD 7990
SeaSonic 850w PSU
Kingston 120g SSD
Prior to building the New PC I had no issues at all. I got the New Motherboard, CPU and RAM. Built the computer and started having the issue that my Computer would Lock Up randomly, it seemed to be when I was playing a game and having other stuff going on my 2nd monitor. Just Lock up, no BSOD and nothing in the event logs. Have to push and hold power to turn off and then reboot.
I thought it was the Motherboard as I don't tend to use anything but Asus, so I sent back the ASRock motherboard and purchased the Asus Rampage IV Extreme. Reinstalled Windows with the Asus Motherboard still had the lock up issue. Next I got new RAM - I purchased the G.Skill Sniper series 1866 Ram, thought that was going to fix the issue BUT Still got a hard lock up. It seems to happen when I am playing a game and have other things going - It seemed to happen when I played WoW and Diablo 3 which were actually installed on my 2nd harddrive ( Velociraptor).
I moved my WoW folder to my Kingston and removed the Velociraptor -- Still Locked up. Only thing at this point I have not tried swapping are the PSU, the Video Card and the Harddrives. Because those all seemed to work fine in my old system I didn't think those would be the culprit. I have no tried changing out the CPU but not sure if that would be the cause as the computer seems to run fine with out locking up if I'm not playing a game and other stuff. Also - Temperatures are not the issue as I've been monitoring them all and the CPU is usually at 30c-34c and the GPU runs around 60c-65c.

When the PC is on it will depending on how long its been on will randomy just shut off. When it shuts off, it "sometimes" reboots but most often it "tries" to reboot but fails and then stays off. After this failed try to reboot if I press the power button on the case and mobo, nothing. Now if I turn OFF the PSU leave it for a few minutes and come back turn the PSU switch on and press the power button the system comes to life for a second or two then dies and will no respond to the power buttons until I turn off the PSU again.I have gotten it up and running from this state by leaving it off and unplugged for a couple of hours. When I say the PC comes to life for a second or two, I mean the case fans. If I get it booted up the BIOS is reset to default for some reason. Also if it makes it to windows, the notification area icons also gets reset... very very odd.I have a short video of the problem, sorry for the darkness, I finally decided to video it and it was 11pm.PSU dying or Mobo. I dont have extra's so I cant test them.Forgot to mention, ive checked for heat problems but none of my temps are high, they are all normal and its a Antec 1200 with tons of air movement.Event Viewer shows nothing expect for unexpected shutdown. My event viewer is clean from any errors also. I do not get any BSOD and this is on a fresh Windows 7 install from late Jan.

I am running a dual monitor setup with my TV hooked up via HDMI to my laptop.
Everything was working fine before, I always had the laptop as my main display yet I could play a video or a game fullscreen on the TV.
Since a couple of days, as soon as I put something in fullscreen, it immediately goes on my laptop, regardless if it's open on my TV or my laptop. I don't remember changing/installing anything that could've changed that...
I checked a bit in the AMD vision software and the Windows control pannel but I can't seem to solve my problem without switching my TV as the main display. I also made a quick search on google as well as here but the problems were mainly with Flash, which isn't in cause here.
Here are my system specs:
Toshiba Satellite L75D
Windows 7 home premium 64-bit
AMD Radeon 6520G

I have just did a clean install of Windows 7 ultimate from XP and I am unable to get my dual monitors to work like they did in XP.
I have a DVI Radeon graphics card plugged into the agp slot, and a Nvidia geforce vga adapter plugged into a pci slot of my dell optiplex 755. When I am in the screen resolution settings the second monitor cannot be detected.
In bios I have 2 options under primary video adapter and they are auto, and onboard card. When set to auto the Nvidia card gets a signal but the Radeon does not. There are no conflicts in the device manager, and all of the drivers are up to date.
When I change the bios option to onboard card the Radeon adapter gets a signal but the other monitor cannot be detected and in device manager there is a yellow exclamation mark next to Standard VGA adapter and a code 10 error that states the device could not be started.
I have powered down, and unplugged every cable, I also tried to use the integrated VGA adapter to the Intel G31/G33/Q33/Q35 Graphics Controller but the computer will not even boot. I get
"System Halted
Attention Unsupported Video Configuration Detected"
I have two monitors, both work fine as standalone but Windows will not detect either as a secondary.
Please help me someone, I am so used to having my helpdesk email open in one monitor and all of my other work in the other monitor.

This computer is running an ATI Radeon HD 2400 Pro. It does support dual monitors...(I've had dual monitors active on this card before, but never on Windows 7.) But since installing windows 7, I can't even get it to detect the second monitor. I want to run the setup with the CRT as the primary monitor and the HD as the secondary.

I recently had an older HP Pavilion Media Center m7760n Desktop PC rebuilt. The old power supply fried the motherboard so I need to get a new power supply and motherboard. Here are my current specs.
Mainboard : Asus P5QPL-VM EPU
Chipset : Intel G41
Processor : Intel Core 2 Duo E6420 @ 2133 MHz
Physical Memory : 2048 MB (2 x 1024 DDR2-SDRAM )
Video Card : Intel(R) G41 Express Chipset (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM 1.1)
Hard Disk : WDC (1000 GB)
[code]....
As you can see from above, the "video card" is actually integrated into the motherboard. The computer works perfectly except for one major problem. I have 2 monitors, one is 22" with 1680 x 1050 resolution and the other is a 15" monitor with 1024 x 768 resolution. At the back of my computer I have a VGA port and a DVI port. The 15" is connected to the VGA port and the 22" is connected to the DVI port. When first starting the computer, the 15" monitor was recognized as the primary monitor while the 22" was recognized as the secondary monitor. No problem. I simply went to the display settings and set the 22" to be the primary monitor and the 15" to be the secondary monitor. Unfortunately, this setting seems to reset as soon as I reboot the computer. The 15" is always set as the primary monitor on start up, forcing me to set the proper settings all over again. What's worse is that even after I have set the proper settings, they sometimes revert back when using Media Center or other programs. Worse yet, sometimes the monitors both go completely black ... as if the monitor settings were about to switch but got locked up some how.I'm assuming that perhaps the on board video has a primary port (VGA) and a secondary port (DVI) but even still, shouldn't Windows 7 be able to over-ride this and save these settings so that the monitor settings remain the same during startup and regular usage?

I'm using a television (32p) as a second monitor in extended mode so that I can watch a movie in the TV and play a game in the monitor (this was my main goal). Monitor and TV lays in two different ambients, both connected to the same pc, one by normal VGA cable and the other by HDMI. I managed to differentiate the audio output so that VLC player sends it's audio to the HDMI (so that only the TV plays it) and the rest of system sounds, media players and games outputs to the speakers (basically only the VLC audio is directed to another output device). I reached my goal so that I can watch a movie fullscreen in the TV and play a game in the monitor fullscreen too without any interference from one another (nor audio or video).
The thing is, because I have the TV in another ambient I can't actually see what's going on in it, as I just "throw" the VLC window to the TV from my main monitor. And here's the question: There's a way to see the TV's desktop in my monitor? Without having to set it as main monitor so to not really switch between desktops.. The perfect thing would be if I could see the TV's desktop in a window like in remote desktops applications.

I have searched for 3 days trying to find a Broad Band Monitor to let me know when it drops and for how long, also how many times while I am at work, or just not on the PC.

If I start up a browser lets say, and I need to open another browser window I can't use the quick-launch cuz that icon disappears as soon as I opened the first window.Same with all of them, including 'windows explorer', one window and the icon disappears, is there a way to get them to stay?

There seems to be no pattern as to when I get a BSOD. I ran Memtest86+ for about 18 hours (8 full cycles) and there were no errors. I've noticed also that anytime I run Prime95 with high FFT lengths, all 4 cores fail almost immediately ("Rounding was 0.5, expected 0.4" is a common one). I have gotten BSOD's when nothing was overclocked. I've gotten it when doing light overclock stress testing as well. I've gotten it when doing no stress testing and nothing else that's CPU or memory intensive.

Lately I've been getting BSODs randomly during the day. I work from my computer at home and then sometimes also play games at night like Mass Effect which is pretty system intensive. Whats strange is that the BSODs only happen when I'm working. I have 2 browsers up, a text editor maybe 2, ftp program, sometimes music. Nothing that would strain the system.I've ran driver verifier already which lead me to remove my Realtek HD Audio driver, I've turned it off since. I ran memtest86 overnight once and will run it again for a more extended period, but because of when the crashes happen I'm inclined to think it's a software issue.

My PC keeps getting BSOD's at random points during use though I'm thinking it could be hardware, but was hoping to get some expert advice before coming to that conclusion. It started happening a while ago and created quite a few minidump files, though tonight I think I reset the CMOS (couldn't boot PC) & went into windows, the date/time were reverted back to 2002 & the minidumps were no longer there (even after adjusting the date/time back to normal)I have 2x dumps at the moment & hope they are of some use.(attached). I had to add .doc to the end of the .dmp files. The upload manager wouldn't upload the standard .dmp file. There's no specific point at which it would BSOD, sometimes PC would just lock up without the BSOD screen showing up. Could happen within minutes of turning on, or an hour+ after. Could be watching a movie or surfing the net.. or just sitting there.

As the title already says, I'm having problems with my usb slots not working sometimes for my mouse and keyboard, they either stop working for a few seconds and I get the windows "connect/disconnect" sound or they just stop working which can be fixed by repositioning the 2 usb's into a different set of slots. This solution however only works for a while until the same problem occurs again and I have to reboot to get them working again, this problem nearly only occurs with the rear usb slots, it does, however, somethimes affect my front 2 slots where I have a headset plugged in, this is noticeable immediately as any sound heard from the headset is wrong (can't really explain how it changes ). I have already tried uninstalling/updating drivers and turning on legacy support in the BIOS but to no avail.

Just recently my mouse keeps randomly going off and I have tried it in the 4 front usb 2 ports in my computer and it works but still randomly goes off for a millisecond and in the back usb ports it doesnt work at all when its working it sometimes affects my headset when the mouse goes off and the sound will be really weird and eventually revert back to normal.
I noticed when I went on control panel -> devices and printers my pc had an error symbol on it so I tried to troubleshoot it by using the option when right clicking and it says needs to install 'usb controller driver' and I let it try and find it but it said it failed because it couldn't find it and I can't find it anywhere if anyone can link me to it I would be so happy to get my mouse sorted out.

I've noticed while playing Skyrim that my CPU spikes to 100% causing FPS to go down and the computer to lag.
I'm able to verify the CPU load via my G13 display set to the core temp application.
I've not noticed any type of consistency when this happens and by the time I am able to maneuver to the Task Manager to check which process is causing this, it stops.

After a while of being logged in (around an hour or so) Windows will start randomly using up RAM, up to 11.4 gigabytes. When I look in the Task Manager there's literally nothing that even COULD be using up that much RAM. On idle it will use up 5gb and even that is much much more than all of the applications are using in total. Any media players I might want to use on my computer completely go haywire after the 11.4gb. MPC-HC will skip frames constantly with the audio also skipping, VLC will play the audio but not the video whereas both of these would play perfectly well when I first signed in. Browser players (flash basically) work perfectly fine though. When I play a certain game and shut it down everything goes completely insane.
If I play another game the fps will constantly stutter between a full 60fps (which is also my screen limit) and 48 causing the character to seemingly teleport every step instead of fluid walking. My browser will also do a sort of stuttering (Firefox) when scrolling, instead of sliding down the page it will skip a portion but it won't stop scrolling so instead of the "tom's hardware" logo shifting down it will just skip it and skip the next part and the next etc. Though this issue does effect browser players, it doesn't effect application players (VLC, MPC-HC). Except only video players will stutter and everything else (browsers, games, regular applications) will work fine.
MPC-HC's audio will skip and fall behind the video causing basically for the characters to be mouthing words the audio played 5 seconds ago. VLC will start skipping the video while the audio stays intact so when a frame gets stuck it will just skip ahead to where the audio is. Any of these usually occur somewhere between 30min-1hr after being signed in. Once it does I have to shut the computer down and boot it back up again for everything to work normally again. Unfortunately I can't find anything specifically on this that's proved useful (installing/uninstalling certain windows updates as well as checking AV and drivers, uninstalling things).
