I've lost MY COMPUTER and the recycle bin icons in my explorer screens also my dvd is not there either but all is working and are showing in computer management and my network . Can use the dvd drive and write to it with nero.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been unable to copy and paste or drag and drop files in Windows explorer for a few weeks. The problem is as far as I can tell limited to copying and moving files. These functions work just fine in other programs.
I can copy and paste text just fine, and I can drag a file from a .rar archive to the desktop. I can however NOT drag and drop files from the desktop to a folder.
If I try to copy and paste using Ctrl-C/Ctrl-V or the right click menu all I get is some noise from the hard drive and no other reaction.
EDIT: Copying and pasting files works in safe mode.

I have lost the IE icon from the dropdown taskbar on my Sony Vaio laptop.I have tried the other suggestions on this site but nothing seems to work. All I get when I try to right click and open on Explorer is library information.

Rebuilding the Windows 7 icon cache has not worked in the past.
Windows Explorer ( not internet Explorer) starts up when I turn on my computer ( without my request). This just started to occur yesterday. It must be in some startup menu . Where do I look for this to remove it ?

I have contacted my internet provider and they say there are no connection problems and all is fine. They think the problem is on the dell unit. View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a HP Touchsmart 300-1060a (Home Premium Windows 7 64 BIT) which I bought few years back. Now for the last 6 months or so I started getting issues with my machine was not displaying anything at all after turning it on. So I had to hard reset my power from the machine and then was able to see it started displaying again.At first I suspected graphic card (NVIDIA GEFORCE) but then I did my diagnostic test and nothing was found.One day, I started re-imaging my machine as a fresh and then after this it never came back ONLINE. I read all HP forums & even HP Online support was unable to help me to find the cause.Because when I turn on my machine I can see the power light was on and could hear big fan noise but mo HDD activity at all.So at this stage, I suspected either motherboard or BIOS but wasn't 100% sure what could be the real cause because I was sure it was not due to graphic card.So first I re-setted by my BIOS to see if it helps but it didn't came up at all. So then I took my machine to a Computer repair shop (a friend of mine) and we detected it could be due to the regulator which supplies power to the CPU and motherboard.So we replaced that part and now my HP Touchsmart is running fin since then.But I have lost my HP Startup logo with options such as below: [code]
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a toshiba laptop running windows 7 32bit and made some changes to folder ownership that has wrecked havoc on my machine. I am the only user for this machine and am listed at the administrator. The changes I made were under the "users" folder, and the folder that listed my name. I don't even recall why I was tinkering with it but made a change under file folder properties/security/ownership. Since that change, it has done many things, including removing files and folders from my desktop and computer that do not show up anymore at all. It has blocked me from the c: drive. aApop up upon start up stats microsoft visual runtime library error c:program files. and on and on.
I have done a system restore to prior when I made the changes to no avail. it does the restore, but does not change the folder ownership or issues I am having. I have tried to reset the folder under options to a previous setting but that has not worked and now has me blocked from even going into my c: all together.. saying access denied. I have had no luck under control panel fixing this and have done more harm than good. Is there an easy way to get back control of my computer and regain the files that are not showing up. I have been looking for a way, similar to system restore, to reverse the changes to file ownership and give me control of my computer again. I would think this would be easy since im the system admin but no luck so far.
In Windows 7 Explorer, the Computer icon is not showing in the left pane--neither in the default view or the 'show all folders' view.
You can see from the screen captures that I have Explorer set to open to Computer, but no Computer in left pane, and no drives are accessible directly through Explorer.
The drives are fine (from using alternate Explorer alternatives).
How can I get the Computer icon back in the left pane?

Ways I've tried to connect:
Steam, Google Chrome, Malewarebytes update, and AVG free (requires internet to install).
What I have tried:
Changing DNS settings in chrome, running Malwarebytes (No detections), AVG (couldn't install due to "no connection"), Avast (No results), tried installing Ad-Ware (Can't "connect"), and I tried the LAN settings (Detect settings and unchecking the proxy box).
Packard Bell Windows 7 64 bit. Any IE8 shortcut works, then computer freezes; keyboard not usable.have to use mouse to Start/Restart.

I read another forum that told me to copy windows explorer from C:/Windows to C:/Windows/System32. Since windows explorer kept crashing, I tried to boot in safe mode, but it got stuck on the "loading files" screen. I shut it down and tried to boot Ubuntu, but it also got stuck.
